170 Incident At The Magic Academy 12

Feeling an ominous presence descend on the entire academy, Mare froze up briefly as she adjusted to the new pressure.

"Whatever it is, it isn't good."

Not able to sense ambient mana, even Lux was able to detect the change that seemed to have happened in the air.

"Lilly let's hurry up.. Lilly?"

Being the most mana sensitive of the group Lilly had quite a different reaction to the others, her face paled as she collapsed onto her knees.

"s.h.i.+t, Lilly! Cover!"

Seeing her comrade collapse unexpectedly Lux acted fast by swooping the small elver into her arms and making her way to cover.

"Lilly!? What's wrong!?"

"I'm… Fine…"

"Obviously not!"

Looking into her golden eyes with worry Lux cursed the fact that she had no medical supplies on her person.

"I'm okay now, it just caught me off guard."

Getting back on her feet on her own Lilly's expression improved as she took a deep breath and explained what had just happened.

"The ritual is complete."

"WHAT!? Is Dax ok"

"I don't know.. Something that was not supposed to have material form have just descended on this world, the foundation feels like it was Dax's curse."

Hearing news she had trouble believing or understanding Lux put everything to the side as she focused on the single task that was now at hand.

"Can we kill it?"

Seeing Lux's straight forth att.i.tude to the problem, Lilly couldn't help but form a thin smile.

"We can die trying."

As only the m.u.f.fled sounds of ultra high velocity artillery could be heard as it fruitlessly hit the golden dome s.h.i.+eld surround the academy, a formless presence descended as Terra and Victor could only look on in fear. It appeared to be a formless void at first no larger than a fingernail, but as corrupted mana spread out from it the being slowly took shape. With the sounds of bone and flesh cracking the void expanded out with violence, like a malignant corruption that was suddenly born it devoured the ambient mana and used it to take shape. Spreading a horrid smell that was a mix of crude oil and decomposing organs the corruption started to take a vaguely humanoid form about 8 meters tall, but still it had no surface, like an event horizon whatever was inside was hidden from observation. Then after taking its form the creature breached the dimensional boundary that had trapped it for several millennia, and appeared with a smile. Still completely formless and mostly hidden behind the dimensional event horizon, the vaguely humanoid creatures only feature was a single large mouth filled with millions of razor sharp teeth.

"YOUR SACRIFICE HAS BEEN ACCEPTED, RACE OF SKY. WHAT DOES YOUR MASTER WANT OF ME?"

As the creature turned towards Melisha she was completely overwhelmed with its pressure, almost on reflex she bowed her head in submission but barely managed not to on the sense of her pride.

"M-my master wants knowledge about the calamity, after that he told me you would be free to do as you wish in this realm."

Slightly suppressing her shaking Melisha did the best she could to not appear frightened, but still suspected she failed to hide it from the creature which widened its mouth after hearing the angel's words.

"I CAN DO AS I WISH AFTERWARDS? YOU SURE HAVE AN INTERESTING MASTER, DOES HE NOT REALIZE WHAT I AM?"

Appearing to be laughing the creature greatly expanded its presence, making Terra and Victor that so far had only observed it uncontrollably shake in fear. The other people that had been observing the current events had a different reaction from Victor and Terra.

"We really did it…"

While Vanessa still had no expression on her face as she watched the summoned demon release its presence, a single tear streamed down her face.

".. Yeah.. Now the central Kingdom will pay for what they did to us, as will Dax."

Eva also looked on with pure joy spread across her face, they had achieved their revenge, now it was only a question of time until everyone that had wronged her people would die a horrible death.

"We have nothing more to do here, put the hostages to sleep, we're leaving."

Having completed their part of the plan, the some 10 surviving elven soldiers and single colaborator made their exit after making sure their hostages were knocked out with magic.

"... Goodbye Mai, goodbye Anna. If we meet in another life I hope we can be friends once more."

Taking one last look at her pa.s.sed out friends, Venessa wondered if they would ever come to forgive her.

"What the f.u.c.k is that unholy creature?.."

Setting her eyes on the result of the ritual for the first time, Lux couldn't help but voice out her disgust. Even as she could not see mana the orbital marine clearly realized that the formless void with a single large mouth was having some horrible, unholy and irreversible effect on its surroundings.

"It's a demon. Something that was supposed to have been driven out of this plane of existence a long time ago…"

Also laying eyes on the creature Lilly had her worst fear confirmed as she explained what the creature was to her comrades.

"A demon… Can we kill it?"

"Impossible, you can not kill what's not alive. The only hope this continent has of survival is that we somehow drive it out of this reality and return it to its prison in between dimensions."

"So there is something we can do? Great how do we do that?"

Looking at Lilly with antic.i.p.ation Lux was only distraught when she heard her answer.

"I have no idea.. The era of demons were way before the grand calamity, all spells which were effective against them have been lost to time.. The only ones that would know how to deal with it are the angels, and I don't think the 3 winged one right there will tell us even a.s.suming she knows something about it."

Feeling quite hopeless Lilly sank to her knees as she felt the will to fight drain out of her, afterall one can't fight the primordial forces of nature.

"... Would the fact that this demon creature has entered this realty have spread beyond this area?"

Meanwhile Lux was deep in thought, she quickly connected serval dots and started to work on a effective counter towards the creature.

"Yeah it most definitely have.. By now every mana sensitive person in the central Kingdom must have felt the disruption in the ambient mana by now."

"Then we still have hope, here's the plan…."

Quickly sharing hypophysis Lux had taught of she made a bit of light return to Lilly's eyes.

"That could work, but it would be a miracle."

Lux's idea would be considered outright insane under normal circ.u.mstances, but the elver realized that they would all need to be insane if they would try to fight a demon.

"Okay then let's do it, Mare you stay put."

"No."

"That was a direct order."

Realizing that there was a high chance they would die Lux called for Mare to stay out of the fight, but she stubbornly refused to do so.

"I don't care about your direct order, I am going with you."

"Mare…."

Seeing how stubborn the beastkin was being Lux considered knocking her out for her own protection, but in the end she didn't need to.

"If you fail I'm going to die anyway…. I would rather die with my family, that's what my dad did and I think he was satisfied by that."

Seeing Mare's steadfast resolution clearly visible in her eyes, both Lux and Lilly were swayed as they looked at eachother with smiles.

"Family… That's not such a bad proposal. What do you think Lilly?"

"I already considered myself to be this child's parent, but what are the chances that the two of us become linked by blood in some way?"

Looking at how smug the grand elder suddenly became, Lux only sighed like it couldn't be helped.

"Okay then. If we survive this you'll have my blessing."

"I couldn't ask for more~ Suddenly I feel extremely motivated, let's go kill this thing!"
