14 『Sunlit Scripture Ii』

By now he already knew the Slane Theocracy had stopped watching. The moment Jack defeated the Nigun, and killed him, whoever was observing had stopped watching as there was nothing else more to see.

Jack stood at the edge of the Village, staring at the sky with a light smile across his lips.

Looking at the sky, it felt as if it was never going to get old.

"If only the world had a sky such as this, back home." He uttered as he still saw the last reality he had been in as his home. This place, it was a long needed vacation, with plenty of violence to go around.

Yet at the same time, he already figured that there just may be no way back from here. It was a one way trip, and that single thought gave him the strength to move forward and explore the world around him.

Turning his head as he could hear the commotion of the people having fun, he could see their shadows up against the houses. Dancing, partying. The Soldiers were having a good time along with the villagers as they were going to stay the night.

It wasn't safe for human or beast to travel in the night. The undead, vampires, there were many threats out there that lurked and preyed on those who couldn't defend themselves.

A small sigh left his lips. He could feel that this world could be dangerous for just about anyone. Though he didn't see Dragons left and right, if they were around, they were a threat.

His eyes traveled off in the direction of the mountains. A dull look in his eyes as he kept his gaze to the north for a few seconds until he turned his eyes back to the Village, only to take in the starry skies above once more.

Hearing someone walking through the gra.s.s towards him, he lowered his sights from the stars and rested them on the girl with blonde hair and brown eyes.

It was Enri, making her way towards him with a faint smile across her lips. Was she happy about their arrangement? Probably not. However they hadn't spoken yet as he had promised earlier, before the battle.

So as she began to walk towards him, he gave her his attention, no real expression on his face for the time being as he didn't really want to outwardly share his true thoughts.

"How are you feeling?" Enri just happened to ask as she was now only two steps away from him. Her hands folded over the ap.r.o.n of her woolen clothes.

She was pretty, beautiful even, and fair. He reached over and touched her braid which she had dangling over her shoulder and smirked slightly. The urge to play with her, to take advantage of her new status, was evident in his mind.

However she was completely misunderstanding the smirk on his face, and the touch of her hair as he pulled her closer. Her cheeks headed up and turned a light red, her clasped hands moving up to her collar as the tips of their shoes were touching.

"Quite fine, now they're you're here," his words were like honey flowing from his lips. Whether or not there had been any true meaning in his words, is a mystery.

Those honeyed words were enough for her heart to skip a beat. She was a mere farm girl, she didn't have romance novels to drown herself in. Yet this felt like a fairy tale, right in this moment, like the stories her mother would tell before bed time.

Her eyes saddened at the thought of her mother and her father.

Yet she held a strong resolve not to let those swollen tears leave her eyes as she allowed his hands to embrace her. One grasping the back of her head and the other awkwardly grasping her hip with his arm around her back.

"Mmmm..." The girl decompressed into his chest as he held her head to his shoulder, her eyes moving up to the stars he had once been gazing at. "You said we'd talk about the life debt..?" She turned her head to look up at him, his hand touching its fingers around her ear as she did so.

Jack's amethyst eyes matched with her brown eyes, a brow raising. "I did," he replied as his body began to sway slightly side to side with her in his arms.

His eyes flickered over towards a small form peering over from around the corner of a village home. A small smile finding its way across his lips before he returned his gaze to Enri.

They were being watched it seemed.

The odd swaying motion seemed to make Enri more comfortable within his grasp, even as his hand moved down a little bit more. Tracing over her backside in a relatively comforting manner.

s.h.i.+fting in his hold, she found herself pressed further against him and smiled nervously feeling the tightening of his grasp. That's when he leaned down to steal her lips, causing her to freeze up as she felt the warmth of his mouth on her own.

She hardly knew what to do and he was taking her first kiss.

Her eyes almost pained, she closed her eyes to the feeling and pressed her lips in return. Trying to keep up with him. The session was short, he broke from the kiss as she was adapting.

Musing, Jack would taste his own lips as she was doing the same. Unlike her, as he could feel her heart beating a thousand times over, his was still steady and calm. She may have felt a spark, but he… Just felt a sensation, it was desire, surging through him.

His jaw flexed to this, but he kept a mildly content outward appearance for her to see and believe. Even then, he wasn't the type to show extreme excitement, at least in front of others. "You don't mind, being mine, do you?" This words slipped from his mouth without the need for reservation.

Blinking up at him, her lips parted, "N-no." Though she stuttered, she didn't hesitate to answer as she was still taken back and even confused by the fact that he had kissed her. A kiss, that hadn't been something she expected of him. Was she really just going to be a servant?

This man who was holding her, who had kissed her, saved her from death. Not only did she feel the need to be around him to feel safe, but she wanted to be closer to him. He was letting her do just that, letting a feeling that would've likely been gone in a couple weeks, fester and grow.

In this world he could just take what he wanted, a.s.sume the control of other people's minds with magic. He thought it was fake though, that it wouldn't have the same feeling, it'd only be artificial.

He enjoyed her smell, her scent. She smelled of dirt and vegetables, a hint of sweat. She was a farmer, not a warrior. While her clothes weren't necessarily the softest of quality, they suited her well.

Taking a step forward with her so close to him, Jack pretend to trip, sending them both tumbling down on the soft gra.s.s.

"Ooof!" Her hands fell out from her sides, her fingers curling slightly as she lay there on the ground. One eye opening to find Jack looming over her, one hand resting by her head. "Hey..."

"Sorry," Jack, holding himself over her, he grinned lightly as he spoke. "It seems I lost my footing," his tone sounded sarcastic, a bit more playful than before now that she was cornered.

Pursing her lips as she stared up at him with her big brown eyes, she went to reach up and grasp at the sides of his face until she heard someone running towards them.

Both of them turned their heads to see a girl in a blue dress and white boots come rus.h.i.+ng on over and come to a stop a few feet away. "Enri, you're going to get gra.s.s stains on your dress!" Were the words that left Nemu's mouth, words that Jack wasn't necessarily antic.i.p.ating or waiting for as he had taken note of her watching them not too long ago.

"Oh Nemu..." She looked at her sister as she laid there with Jack on top of her, her hands falling to her waist as she let out a sigh. "It's fine, I can get the stains out. I get them out of yours all the time, don't I?" A sympathetic coy smile on her lips as she looked up at her little sister.

Jack could only sn.i.g.g.e.r at this, "You worry about the smallest of things..."

Nemu huffed hearing Jack's amus.e.m.e.nt, looking at the dragon with a strangely smug look on her face. "Uh-huh," She crossed her arms over her chest with an offsetting sense of pride, "That's because I'm small."

The staining her dress bit was definitely just a ploy, an excuse, to get closer to the two of them.

Jack narrowed his eyes on Nemu, his hand moving to press down on Enri's shoulder as she tried to sit up; essentially pinning her right back down into the gra.s.s.

"Jack?" Enri gave a half-giggle, curious as to why he had just pinned her to the dirt.

"Would you two be interested in seeing the underground I spoke of before?" His eyes traced back down towards Enri who was still keeping her gaze up at him.

Nemu's eyes almost immediately lit up, wanting to go see the home to the Hero of Carne Village. That smug sense of pride on her face was now erased, replaced by excitement. It was a distraction from what she had lost.

"No one else can know about it," Jack raised a brow seeing Nemu still beaming, "The Secret Dragon Lair. If you speak of it to anyone, you'll become part of my h.o.a.rd."

Enri raised her head slightly trying not to laugh at the playfulness he was exhibiting, "Pffft.."

"When are we going?" Nemu asked as she was trying not to jump in place or flail around like she normally would,. Patiently she stood there, waiting for an answer as she was watching as Jack finally began to stand up while helping Enri back to her feet by pulling her arm.

Jack leaned down and started dusting off her dress, before glancing over towards Nemu who's eyes seemed to be s.h.i.+ning in the dark like that of a wild animal due to her excitement alone. Though his eyes weren't all that much different when facing the dark. "Ah… How about tomorrow after ch.o.r.es?"

His eyes fixed on Enri as he took her hand in his own, "Mind if I sleep in your bed tonight?"

"Uhm..." Enri's face had turned red from this question, which appeared as if she was being given a choice. If he wanted her, he could take her whether he wanted to or not.

He had asked this on purpose.

Nemu pursed her lips hearing him ask this question, squinting her eyes at him. "That's my bed too."

Jack froze for a moment before looking over at Nemu, "Oh?" The look on her face, she was definitely being an obstacle on purpose, but at the same time he understood.

She had just lost her parents, and sleeping with her sister would offer the ability to heal. She was a strong kid to even be wearing a smile on the same day her family had been lost. Perhaps they were raised to accept death so early? Or did she not really understand it? They lived at a village on the edge of the Kingdom, perhaps this wasn't the first time they've been attacked..?

"Hmmm… Guess I'll come back around in the morning?" His eyes s.h.i.+fted towards Enri, a small grin forming over his lips. "I'll keep my guards here in case the Theocracy retaliates."
