13 『Sunlit Scripture I』

Nigun, a man with a scar over his eye and short blond hair, with black eyes, narrowed his sights on the figure as he was in the middle of a grand speech. A brow raised seeing this, "Ah? Who is this…? Have you come to be killed alongside the beloved Head Warrior of the Re-Estize Kingdom!? Hahaha!"

Larger than life, it seemed this Zealot couldn't keep his volume down as Jack continued his approach in silence. His sleek black staff dragging loosely behind him.

His eyes dully gazed forward, his skin being polluted by beautiful scales that matched his eyes of amethyst hues. Shuffling side to side with each step, he moved reminiscent of a zombie.

Swaying to and fro, the Head Warrior turned his head to look at Jack, flexing his eyes as he wiped the blood from his brow. "Jack-dono?" A smile cracked across his lips, one pinging with an expression of deep physical pain.

Continuing without a word, Jack would begin to 'phase' out of normal existence. He became transparent, then there were three of him. Soon enough, there was only one of him again. The show he was putting on was indeed intimidating for anyone watching. It even brought gooseb.u.mps to the spectators back in the village, as well as the Head Warrior in front of him.

His body morphing, twisting and growing. His body would be covered in scales, the same scales which had surrounded his eyes. That was not all. Beneath his chin was a mane of brilliant multi-colored feathers that spread out from either side of his jaw beneath his ears which slowly vanished.

As his transformation continued, it made him look similar to a Drake, a four legged type of dragon.

This would only transpire for a mere few seconds, before he was several times larger than he was before. On all fours was a long snaking body with large talons and wide spanned wings spread from his back.

He looked absolutely majestic as his face was now edge shaped, for he was a Dragon, his eyes having become far more fierce. They no longer seemed dead at all as he bore his sharp fang-like rows of teeth.

He was ten feet in length, his wings nearly twice that as he narrowed them out at his sides. Je was picking up his pace, charging forth gallantly. Excitement building up inside of him.

"A Dragon!?" Nigun shouted aloud, "Kill it! Kill it now!" He ordered his subordinates, which in turn they sent their many puppeteered Angels in his direction.

Jack initially ignored them, as he was running past Gazef, their eyes met and his wing went just over his head, as the filmed underwing grazed the top of his head Jack cast the spell 『heal』. Almost immediately the Head warrior was healed in a flash of green light.

"What the…?" Gazef looked over his person, inspecting his wounds which were threatening his very life, yet there was nothing wrong with him. He looked to the broken sword in his hand and brought forth a half-c.o.c.ked smile. "I was mortally wounded," He watched as the Dragon charged at the summoned monsters.

Jack pushed himself off the ground and flapped his wings, torpedoing himself through one of the Angels, before skidding along on his talons through the dirt when he finally landed. Digging up gra.s.s and soil as he did so, sending it flying in all directions.

The single angel had been destroyed without problem. No damage visible on the Dragon!

"Such power..." Gazef watched as the magical beast opened its mouth and let out a loud howl, overlapped with a harmonious growl of some kind from its throat.

Several bolts of psychic energy leaving from his mouth, as soon as it hit the Angels their summoners immediately lost control! These creatures let out a desperate wail, their stoicism broken, an expression clear to be seen.

Then within a few more seconds of being effected, the Archangel Flames exploded into Golden Lights, one by one as they attacked one another and anything close to them that moved!

Nigun couldn't believe what he was seeing! How in the world was a Dragon so small compared to a Dragon Lord capable of doing such damage!? The Third Tier angels didn't even phase it!

"Again! Att--" He watched as the Dragon fired a volley of Psychic energy towards his men, cutting him off by sudden surprise.

"No!" One of them dove to the side, but the one beside that one wasn't lucky.

"I can't get ou-! The moment the man was. .h.i.t by the psychic energy, he was sent catapulting into the air by the physical force alone, before landing with a roll.

There was a few instances of unnerving silence as all of the Mages within the Scripture stared at the man laying on the ground. Like a dead man resurrected, he would clumsily raise to his feet. His eyes were bleeding, the whites were bloodshot, and he released a heart wrenching screaming.

"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!"

He then tackled the other Mage who had dodged the attack, starting to beat him over and over again with his fists. Biting at his hands and arms that he tried to block the a.s.sault with.

"In the name of the Surshana…" Nigun happened to mutter under his breath, his eyes flickering over towards Jack, at least where he had been once before. "Where did he go!?"

The Commander of the Sunlit Scripture looked this way and that, but he didn't see the Dragon!

"Where is it!? Find him!" He could only order his men to look around frantically, until suddenly a single swipe tore the head clean off of one of the mages. Sending the head tumbling along on the plains, before rolling to a stop.

The body then crumpled to the floor.

Nigun narrowed his eyes on the bloodied claws that blended into the surroundings within the next few seconds. Almost perfectly, Jack had disappeared from sight. He couldn't seen by anyone, or anything.

"Eh?"

One by one, Jack slew the Sunlit Scripture's elite forces. Their deaths were quick, meaningless. There was no purpose in their deaths as they'd accomplish nothing! It was the end of the line.

Nigun began to sweat as his men were panicking, sending spells w.i.l.l.y nilly in any direction they heard the gra.s.s move. They couldn't even hit him! They couldn't see him! And they most definitely couldn't hear him despite how large he was compared to a normal human being!

Gazef just remained standing where he was.

This wasn't a fight, it wasn't a battlefield any longer. This had turned from a skirmish and into a ma.s.sacre for the opposing side. His men could be seen returning to the field, only to slow down to a halt seeing the onslaught of an invisible perpetrator.

Driven to the brink, unable to think clearly as he couldn't tell which direction his enemy would greet him from, Nigun pulled out what looked like a blue crystal from his vestments. "There is no possible being who could stand against the Dominion of Authority!" He declared, yet as he held the item out to use it as a summoning medium… He felt teeth digging into his forearm.

Fading into view, Nigun and Jack made eye contact just as he dropped the sealing crystal, no longer being able to feel his hand. Venom was spreading throughout his body, he could feel a burning sensation, but it wasn't going to kill him… No! This was venom that forced the body into hibernation!

"Let go of me!" The Mage would beat at Jack's snout helplessly, as he was using all his strength to even claw at him, his nails began to peel away. "I can't die here! Please! Spare me!"

After a few minutes of struggling, Jack released his jaw's hold on the man's arm, letting him collapse to the ground unconscious. "Pathetic..."

Jack, licking his chaps of the blood which coated them, his eyes darted over towards Gazef who was standing there with a look of bewilderment on his face. "What, never seen a magic dragon before?" He made himself sound oddly proper, as if he had just been sharing a joke.

The Head Warrior glanced over at his sword for a moment, before dropping it, a tired smirk across his lips. "You are one fearsome lizard, Jack-dono."

"Hey! Lizards are primitive and have a cruel sense of humor," Jack made a nonsensical retort before laughing to himself, phasing back into his human form. Abide, this time it was less showy and much more instantaneous, as his staff was once more in his hand as he stood there looking over the man.

Gazef folded his arms over his chest, "How many of you are there?"

"Mirage Dragons? Not sure, pretty sure I'm the one and only here." A small snarky tone he used as he said this, before looking towards the Village. Then glancing back towards Nigun who was laying there unconscious. "Hm..." Raising his staff, the pointed end hovering over the slumbering male's sternum.

"You're going to kill him while he's asleep?"

"For what will happen to him, I'd rather be asleep should it be done to me as well.." Jack informed as he stabbed the weapon into Nigun's chest, causing the body to jump, but remain without consciousness.

『Devour』

As the spell was cast once more, like it had been done with the Knight upon his arrival, Nigun's body would be crumpled up and sucked in through the 'straw.' His knowledge, acc.u.mulated levels of experience and his skills were all absorbed. However what most intrigued Jack however, was the Talent that came to him.

Nigun had the pa.s.sive talent that increased the power of his summons by a certain percentage, this talent was now Jack's. As was all of the man's knowledge of the scriptures and the Slane Theocracy.

The names and faces of each member of the Cardinals, the G.o.ds they wors.h.i.+pped, everything.

"The Slane Theocracy has quite the stash of Magical Items..." He muttered as he stared at the spot that the mage once laid in slumber. "Interesting..."

Gazef blinked at this, having seen what happened. He now understood why Jack had said he rather be asleep if he had been killed in this fas.h.i.+on. He could hardly comprehend the amount of pain that would be experienced, even if it was just a few seconds followed by eternal death.

He doubted he'd be able to revived now that there was no body remaining!

Jack looked over Gazef who was just staring where heh ad been looking moments ago. "Creepy, isn't it?"

Being asked this question, the Head warrior was caught off guard and took a step back. "Yes, I wouldn't be able to jest about that ability of yours."

Jack nodded slightly with a small huff of air. "Shall we return to the Village?" He'd ask as he could see the soldiers of the Warrior Troop making their way back towards the Village to catch up with their leader. They didn't even hesitate to climb off their horses to come and expect the man!

Jack on the other hand began walking towards the residence containing the villagers. He placed his staff on his back, looking over the individuals cheering from the rooftops.

It seems his own guards were celebrating the victory, even though Jack himself saw the whole event as one sided. The Slane Theocracy had weak soldiers. Their scriptures were feared, but overestimated.

What did interest him however, was the term G.o.d-kin and the very limited knowledge Nigun possessed of the Black Scripture.
