11 『Gazef Stronoff』

The Elder looked up at Jack as he continued to hold the man's hand. Though he was grateful, happy that they were saved. They, the villagers, had skeptic looks on all of their faces.

It was as if they didn't believe he had come to save them the moment the commotion reached his ears. A small smile formed over his lips. Perhaps they wanted to trade? Pay him tribute for what he had done? He could very easily lay claim to Enri, his eyes drifting over to her for a moment.

Then he turned his gaze back to the Elder. Seriously though, a person for saving the entire village? He had to think of something better than that right? Though he could make up the story that he saved the Village because he had befriended the sisters.

There was no indecision in his mind, all of his thoughts were moving faster than a single second.

That's when the question came, as they began to awkwardly shake each others hands for several. "We don't expect you to have done this without reward," The Village Elder's smile wavered, "Perhaps we can come up with something…?"

Jack's eyes rested on him for a few moments before he closed his eyes partially. Now was not the time to become modest, they wouldn't believe him, he wouldn't believe him. This was an opportunity.

"I'd like to know more about this region… Our… Group has remained in seclusion underground for generations." His eyes drifted around the village that surrounded them, "This Village wasn't here the last time we were on the surface."

He was aware of the tale of the Thirteen Heroes, the Greed Kings and various other legends. He was even aware of the current spheres of influence.

"Underground..." The three of them uttered under their breath, looking at him, still skeptical.

Jack blatantly just gave them a false smile.

"We live in a cave system that was once collapsed at the mouth," he added as he waved his hand slightly in dismissal. Worst case scenario, all he had to do was dominate all their minds and make them forget his very existence.

They smiled a bit hearing a little more information, before Enri glanceed towards Silva. "Explains the Vampire… Was it sealed because of her?"

Jack raised a brow at Enri who was trying to deduce the reason for the isolation. "No, it was induced by ourselves to avoid the wrath of the Greed Kings."

This would make sense, considering he had scales on his face and he was called a Dragon by Nemu.

On top of that, if he was a dragon, it would make sense that he'd very old. However they were slightly confused by his humanoid and youthful complexion. Perhaps he was less than six hundred years old?

The gaze was becoming a bit more curious.

So as the hours went by, Jack and the Village Elder talked, allowing him to confirm and learn more about the world around him. A single person's mind was limited, but the words of the many held nearly unlimited strength.

Like it had been reported to him before, the Re-Estize Kingdom was indeed corrupt, economically broken and affluent. It was clear that the Theocracy was to blame for this and he even learned of their true target. They weren't trying to make the Empire and the Kingdom go to war, no… This was an a.s.sa.s.sination plot towards the Head Warrior which was on his way here at this very moment.

He was also clearly aware that the settlement was practically surrounded by what appeared to be a Special Operations group. They remained partially concealed, but they could be easily taken care of at any time thanks to the range of the guns his Guards used.

They held their fire however, as they were only ordered to take on vantage points around the village.

『Message』

"Jack!" Teetle's voice shouted in the back of Jack's head.

"Yes Teetle?" Jack would raise a brow as he turned his head to the side, placing two fingers on his temple as he turned his eyes from the Village Elder.

The Elder raised a brow and watched as he talked to 'himself,' though the flash of light incidated he was using magic to communicate with someone from a distance. Perhaps it was the Message spell that no one in this world uses anymore due to the fact that it wasn't considered all that trustworthy.

"The Head Warrior is closing in on the Village. They seemed to have already noticed the Village is surrounded. Their advancement however hasn't halted."

"Understood..." Jack uttered as he turned to look towards the East. "It seems you will be having visitors from the Kingdom soon."

"Oh?" The Elder looked up at Jack for a few moments before turning to look in the general direction he was looking in. A path which lead towards the nearest Fortress City. "Who's coming?"

His voice was clearly cautious. n.o.bles weren't necessarily known for helping out, if anything, they took what they wanted and left.

"The Head Warrior's Warrior Troop. Apparently the King has sent him to take care of the disturbances that have been occurring across the Region as of recently." Jack uttered just enough for the Chief to hear.

From what he said, it was clear Jack knew more than he had initially let on hours ago.

More villages suffered? Why'd he help on this one? Perhaps… He was waiting for this moment?

The Chief didn't think too much into it considering the debt which he owed. He didn't necessarily see this as a debt paid and was sure he'd help them out whenever they were truly in need of a.s.sistance.

"How long until they arrive Teetle?" Jack inquired information from his subordinate.

Teetle was quiet for a few seconds, "About fifteen minutes."

Jack nodded to his and glanced towards the direction Nemu and Enri were. It was the graveyard where the four dead members of the village, including her parents, were now buried.

Though he could have resurrected them, he didn't want to show that power to anyone. Especially the ones watching what was going to soon transpire around the village. Reviving someone was apparently a rare gift and magic users typically only reached third tier unless they were talented.

The highest level caster known was the Court Wizard of the Baharuth Empire, Fluder Paradyne. They could cast Sixth tier magic, something that didn't even directly effect him, since it was under the seventh tier.

By now the sun was actually setting, a vibrant pink taking over the once clear baby blue sky.

"Gather the others to your residence within the next ten minutes," Jack stated as he looked over the old man, "Then met me in the square for the Head Warrior to arrive."

Silva who was already in the square was standing there with the Blunderbuss Unit. Her eyes resting on the horizon that she was waiting for the Head Warrior to come from.

As the Elder left his side, Jack joined her, stabbing his staff into the ground before leaning on it with his arms crossed. "So do you have an opinion on this that you'd like me to hear?"

She looked over at him for a few seconds, before nodding. "Jack-sama wants to insert his influence over this village. Doing as you are, is fine, it'll work. My only question is, what are your plans after this? I can't fathom your brilliance..."

Jack smirked a bit when she had called him Brilliant. He couldn't help but let a chuckle emit from his throat before he looked to the sky above.

Its natural appearance was a beauty as real stars began to peak through unto the world from far and beyond the stratosphere. It reminded him of his room back in the underground city's castle.

"I wonder… How many planets are up there… What kind of Astronomy does this magical plane have." Jack was really into the idea of s.p.a.ce travel back in his past, as one couldn't see the sky or the stars without special equipment to get pa.s.sed the polluted sky.

"Hm..." Silva looked up to the sky, not necessarily understanding Astronomy, only knowing it was the study of the Celestial World above. "To explore the Heavens would be a privilege reserved only for you, Jack-sama."

He couldn't help but sn.i.g.g.e.r and lower his head as he leaned a bit more into his staff.

Ten minutes had gone by and the Chief was standing beside him as Jack was napping, standing up.

Silva was putting a helmet on her head as the Head Warrior could be seen on the horizon, his troop of fifty soldiers could be seen on horseback making their way to the village.

"He only had fifty troops…?" Silva muttered as she fastened the visor of the helmet over her face.

The Chief looked to her and the Blunderbuss Unit who were going off to guard the Elder's residence where most of the Villagers were now taking shelter.

Within the next five minutes that came to pa.s.s, the Head Warrior came galloping towards Jack and the Elder, coming to a stop as his men followed as well. Encircling the village entrance.

His dark eyes narrowed on Jack, a brow raised seeing the scales around his eyes as he was sleeping. He opened his mouth slightly, but didn't say anything until he slipped off his horse.

He was a well-built man with the chiseled face of a champion. Militantly, showing his might in every stride, the commoner-born Knight walked towards the Elder who was standing beside the sleeping dragon. "You must be the Elder of this Village… I am the Head Warrior." His eyes surfed pa.s.sed the Elder, seeing some scorch marks on some of the houses and buildings.

"Head Warrior-dono..."

They had clearly been attacked. He didn't see a single soul except for some mysterious uniformed individuals p.r.o.ne on rooftops watching the perimeter with strange staves at the ready.

"Who is this?" He gestured towards Jack, who still hadn't opened his eyes.

"This man's Graham-dono, so he claims." The Chief looked over Jack as he was apparently napping, but he knew that wasn't the case. Especially since his eyes were s.h.i.+fting under the lids.

"Oh?" The Head Warrior reached over, waving a hand in front of Jack's face. "He's asleep standing up? What's with the scales around his eyes?"

"He claims to be a dragon."

Parting his lips at these words, "And…?"

"He killed off the Knights who were attacking the Village, it was a one sided ma.s.sacre. Thanks to him however, we had very low casualties. Only four people died..." The Chief spoke in a soft tone, a faint smile across his lips as he watched the Warrior attempting to wake him without touching him.

Opening one eye, Jack looked up at the Warrior without moving his head. "I could bite that hand off you know..." Without much of an expression on his face, he finally stood erect as he pulled his staff from the dirt and held it to his side like a proper mage.

The Head Warrior grinned at the s.p.u.n.k the supposed dragon had, "But you didn't."

"But I didn't," he nodded and tapped his forefinger against the sleek metal medium. "You are aware we are surrendered, right?"

The Warrior's grin turned to a faint smile as he nodded, looking off towards the horizon. "Who are the people on the rooftops? They seem to be watching the enemy with instruments I don't quite recognize."

"Think of them as magic staves," Jack uttered under his breath as he looked to the people he had positioned on most of the vantage points around the village. "They're my Honor Guard."

The Head Warrior raised a brow at this, turning his attention back towards Jack. "Honor Guard?" It sounded like this person was royalty or a n.o.ble of some unknown land. "Which Country do you hail from, Graham-dono?"

"I hail from the Great Forest of Tob," Jack seemed to wear a serious expression and shared an even sterner tone, as to make it seem as if he was telling the truth. Though he did not name a country. Then he flashed a grin, "Where do you hail from?"
