10 『To Arms Ii』

Protective of one another, it was an adorable sight. Because of his human form, and apparently kind nature, it was almost as if they immediately trusted him. Though they had their suspicions, they had seen him in the forest just a few days prior to what was going on now.

"Why... Why are you here?" Was what the older one finally asked as she finally composed herself, her breathing calming down.

The Honor Guard began to reveal itself in numbers as it was heading towards the edge of the woodlands towards the hilltop overlooking the village.

Whilst the Slane Theocracy troops obviously would outnumber them, they had them outgunned and made their levels look like nothing more than pebbles on the side of the road.

"I saw smoke in the distance, so I came with some friends." Jack shrugged slightly as if it wasn't a big deal. This sort of att.i.tude and tone he used, was met with a frown from Enri, despite how grateful she was for the timely rescue.

"...Dragon-san?" Nemu looked like she was on the verge of tears now that she had the time to cry. It was clear she was traumatized, but it was likely for the better. She knew what this world was capable of now that she had just lost both of her parents in one foul swoop.

Jack's eyes almost instinctively softened at the sight of the child, a small inaudible laugh sprouting from a huff of air through his nose. "You're going to be okay, Nemu." He winked before turning his head to watch the Honor Guard for a few moments before walking after them.

"Stay here, or follow me. It's your choice," He said over his shoulder, not daring to look back at them as they watched his back get farther and farther away from them. If they stayed here, it was possible for them to be ambushed and killed. If they followed him, their was a chance they'd survive!

So the two girls would sprint after the man to keep up, keeping just a few paces behind him.

As Jack strode after his Guards, twirling his hand in the air just a little above his head, they ones carrying rifles move into two rows facing the village. The row in front kneeling down, while the other remained standing.

They blinked several times seeing the ten with magic rifles, taking aim with unknown armaments that they didn't quite understand just yet. "Are they some kind of magic staves?"

"Something like that," Jack responded as he raised the hand up further, pressing his fingers close together as he did so. "Select your targets!" He ordered and the two girls watched as they Honor Guard's 'staves' lined up with multiple Knights who were rounding up the Villagers.

"Blunderbuss units, draw your swords and ready to charge!" Jack continued to bark orders, the corresponding units would then take on a 'V' formation, holstering their blunderbusses on their lower back and drawing at least one of their sabres.

"Riflemen Honor Guard, report!"

"Targets Selected!" Silva shouted as she suddenly became visible beside Jack, a spear of her own in her hand. A small smile across her lips.

Even though she was in the sun, she wasn't incurring damage, instead only her movement was slowed down due to her being from YGGDRASIL rather than from this world. It was one of the benefits of being a True Vampire.

The girls looked at one another, then back towards the woman with the grey skin and scarily red glowing eyes. A vampire in broad daylight."V-vampire?"

"Worry not... She is of service to me, she will not harm you or the people of the village." Jack spoke in a deep voice as he glanced over his shoulder as he lowered his hand, like a starting flag for a race, the sound of 'pew pew pew' echoed through the ears of those close enough to hear it. Unlike the Blunderbuss, the magic guns didn't make much of a sound.

Enri smiled sheepishly and nodded hearing him say this, for the time being she had very little choice but to trust this man as he had saved them.

Nemu though, seemed fascinated by the Dragon.

The Knights down in the Village, were rounding up the inhabitants in the main square, having separated the children from the adults.

Belius grinned at the fine work that they were doing. The Villagers barely offered any real resistance, there was no one to guard them. "This is a piece of--!"

Cut off by a bolt of magical energy ripping through his helmet, his body dropped to the ground. And just as the Knights were beginning to notice what just happened, more bolts slammed into their armor and their helmets.

Knights were dropping all around the Village as the riflemen were firing, using a small amount of mana in each shot, but just enough to tear through their ma.s.s produced half-plate armor.

"We're under attack!" One of the Knights shouted before three bolts ripped through his chest plate, sending him stumbling back and dropping dead upon the dirt.

"Take cover! Unknown Magic us--" The second in command was. .h.i.t directly in the shoulder amidst his shouting, sending him to the ground grabbing at his arm. "Aaaah!"

Before they could collect themselves, a wave of ten swordsmen wielding sabres came rus.h.i.+ng into the village. There was only ten of them, but they were quickly overwhelmed by their incredibly powerful foes of unknown origin.

"Who are these people?" The second in command grunted as he got to his feet, holding his limp arm. He'd watch as his people were gunned or cut down. They weren't even given a chance to retreat, route or even surrender!

Even as one of the Knights threw down their sword and s.h.i.+eld, a bolt of energy ripped through their carapace, sending him mercilessly to an early grave.

Blood, gore. The village grounds were painted with the blood of Baharuth Knight Impersonators.

In the end, he was the last one standing. Sabres pointed at his throat, the Honor Guard all had their faces hidden beneath helmets of steel. Their attire being of dark blue leathers, with metal shoulder and chest attachments and gold metal b.u.t.tons on leather straps!

"Who are you people...?" The Knight stared at these people, he swore he could see some of their eyes glowing beneath their helmets.

That's when he heard a group of people marching towards the Village from a short distance away. The sound of music, a song called 'Our Solemn Hour' by Within Temptation, was playing subtly from Jack's pocket.

Nemu was staring at his pocket as she walked along with her sister, pointing to where the sound was coming from. "Sis… There's a woman singing inside of his pocket." She looked slightly confused.

Enri looked over at Jack, then towards her little sister, with a look of incert.i.tude, "It's probably a magic item that records sound…?" Her own tone didn't sound all that convincing with that uncertain expression on her face.

The two village girls who had been chased off into the forest could be seen, with a man dressed in black and white robes with a staff of darkness. A woman with grey skin and glowing red eyes beside him. What was the most noticeable however, was the ten more people wearing identical uniforms with rifles propped up against their shoulders, with the b.u.t.ts in their hands.

This felt like their superficial victory over the Villagers had meant nothing now, it had been taken away from them in a matter of seconds. Moral, especially in the Commander, was now gone.

Raising the visor of her helmet, Anika revealed her face to the man. "We are the Honor Guard of the Blue Citadel. We hereby take you capture, all rights you believe you had, are now hereby void..."

The Commander stared forward at them with an expressionless look on his face, his eyes flickering over to his sword he had left on the ground when he had been shot down. "..." His eyes then met Anika's, "You won't get anything from me, interlopers!"

"You don't need to say a thing..." Jack uttered as he was walking pa.s.sed the Villagers, as Enri and Nemu began helping them to their feet. His eyes drifted to the Honor Guard riflemen, "Get to vantage points on the top of the buildings. Secure the area."

"Understood!"

Watching as they went off to do so, Jack turned his attention back towards the young commander in armor. He could see the temptation in his eyes to fight and die, to avoid giving away any information under duress.

He was sure loyal to his Theocracy.

Vibrant amethyst colored scales would appear around his eyes, making the sound of ruffling feathers, in the process. His eyes becoming more draconic as he now stood in front of the soldier.

"What are you?!" The Man took a step back, grasping his arm tightly.

"He's a Dragon!" Nemu had appeared beside him as she had left her sister's side, only to be suddenly shouting at the man, pointing at him with a teary scowl on her face.

Jack smirked slightly, "Something like that." Taking a few steps forward, he plunged the sharp end of his staff into the Soldier's lower abdomen, right below the half-plate covering his chest.

He let out a gasp, falling to his knees, his mouth wide open as he stared up at Jack. The pain was becoming unbearable. "You b.a.s.t.a.r.d..." He grunted out, placing the hand of his wounded arm on the staff. "Wasn't I supposed to be your prisoner...?"

"Wouldn't you rather die than divulge information willingly?"

Blinking up at the man, he'd gulp quietly. "W-wait... I-I d-don't want to die! Please!"

『Devour』

The man's body twisted and churned, forcing the man to scream out in agony as he was sucked into the staff like that of a straw. The sound of his bones and flesh being crushed and squeezed into fluids could be both seen and heard.

Nemu immediately turned her back to the scene, wide eyed, never having seen someone's body do something like that before. Though she also felt rather sick to her stomach, placing a hand on her abdomen as she flexed her eyes. Her mouth didn't taste too good as it became rich with a flavor of copper. "I.." She went to speak before heaving forward, vomiting.

Jack glanced over at her as the soldier's knowledge came to his mind, his acc.u.mulated experience filling up a bit of his excess EXP bar and new skills coming to light.

A frown danced across his lips however. He walked over to her, by only a few steps, and lightly began to pat her back as he knelt down beside her as she was practically emptying her stomach of today's breakfast.

From the corner of his eye, he could see Enri hurrying over with a worrisome expression on her face.

"Nemu! Are you okay?" She quickly dropped down to her knees in front of her little sister, cradling her face in her hands, wiping her face with the ap.r.o.n of her dress.

Jack smiled slightly at this, before he noticed the movement of the Villagers coming towards them. An older gentleman leading the group towards them with a grateful smile upon his lips.

That's when he blinked a few times, remembering something. His smile immediately left his lips, "Did I not give her the order to leave the Meeting room...?" Jack covered his mouth as he thought aloud about the doppelgänger of his sister. "Oi..."

Enri turned her gaze towards Jack, a brilliant yet sad smile across her face, "Thank you..." Her eyes narrowed on the scales surrounding his eyes and blinked in surprise. "What is your name?" She slowly stood up, dusting off her dress as Nemu stood beside her, leaning into her side.

"My name is Jack Graham, it's a pleasure to officially meet you." He closed one eye before s.h.i.+fting his attention to the Village Elder who finally appeared before them.

Nodding, Enri would bow her head to him as if it was the natural thing to do. He was a Dragon, or at least somehow related to them in one way or another, and yet he chose to protect their land. "Thank you… Again… My name is Enri Emmot."

The Village Elder remained smiling as he took hold of Jack's hand once he was given his attention, "Thank you for saving us all," the grateful smile became even warmer upon the man's face, being able to a.s.sume the power behind the proclaimed Dragon who was standing before him.

These soldiers hadn't really been needed, Jack had been holding back as to hide some of his cards from those watching the supposed battle.
