3 Chapter 3 - The Pup Pack

As soon as he detected a creature, he sealed off his presence and approached it slowly before pouncing and tearing the animal to shreds and ripping out its core. Zaro seemed to have an unlimited amount of energy as the cores he ate the day before had all condensed and started forming a mark on the top of his head.

All of the cores he ate afterward made this mark glow brightly and Zaro could feel a buzzing sensation along with it. This meant that he was now forming his own core which could mean he could finally fight back against those other wolves!

After running around so much, Zaro realized how ma.s.sive this forest actually was! The area which he stayed around was no more than a grain of sand on a beach! He figured that he was simply on the outer layers of the forest and further in, the animals he encountered were much stronger.

Due to him being so weak, Zaro remained on the outer areas of the forest where the animals were all weak. It was an ideal hunting ground as all of the other wolves traveled inwards to reap bigger hunting rewards.

Although he vowed not to run away from threats anymore, he still did not want to die. Hence, he decided to hunt where there was an abundance of prey so that he could grow stronger before entering deeper into the forest.

Zaro suddenly detected a creature nearby and as always concealed his presence and approached it. The closer he got the more creatures he detected and they were all clumped together in a circle with another creature in the middle.

It must've been a pack! And the creature in the middle was in the same situation as he was before! Now that he was evidently stronger, Zaro released a strong murderous intent which alarmed all of the creatures ahead of them as he could sense their fear.

Zaro strolled from behind the bushes into an open area within the forest and in front of him were about seven wolves. But oddly enough, they were all pups just like him! Yet, the pup which was in the middle had an injured leg which angered him even more.

"Hey! Please don't hurt us! We mean no harm!" One of the wolves with a brown hide yelled out.

"Say that to the injured one in the middle!" Zaro snarled which caused all of the pups to cower in fear.

"No, you got it wrong! They are trying to help me!" As soon as the middle wolf said this, Zaro slowly retracted his killing intent and stared dumbfounded at the situation. In his head, Zaro said to himself, "Well isn't this awkward..."

The other pups sighed in relief when they noticed he was no longer intent on killing them and without delay, the same wolf with the brown hide spoke out to him.

"Thank you for hearing us out elder brother... our sister here injured her back paw while escaping a vicious pack of rabbits!"

Zaro didn't know whether to laugh or to cry when he heard the words spoken by the wolf. A full bunch of wolves couldn't handle rabbits! What a Joke! In his experience, these rabbits were incredibly weak!

"Uhh... Rabbits?" Zaro asked while still trying to figure everything out.

"Yes! They kept slamming their feet into our bodies without remorse! Due to that, our sister here dragged her back paw in some thorns and got injured as a result! We need to treat her with some meat!"

Zaro closed his eyes and sighed annoyingly before saying, "Alright, I'll go get her some, the rest of you sit tight."

When he opened his eyes the pack of wolf pups stared at him stunned. Zaro looked at them confused, had he said something wrong?

"Senior brother is able to hunt?"

What the [email protected]*ck! These wolves can't even hunt?! What is this *#t!

"Yes! Aren't you?!" Zaro yelled in surprise.

The small pups lowered their heads in embarra.s.sment when they heard his words, "No... we were never taught how as we all lost our parents when our den was attacked by a wolf with green strands of fur."

The second he heard this, he wasn't surprised anymore. These wolves didn't have his camouflaging ability and were never taught to hunt due to their parents pa.s.sing away and also, Zaro was much older than them in reality as he came from another world, so, his perception was much greater. He felt a strong sense of pity for these pups which were forced to fend for themselves.

"Alright, Alright! I'll go get you guys some food! Stay here and don't move!"

"Yes, brother!" They all cried in unison.

It wasn't long until Zaro returned to them, with two rabbits being dragged from their ears. He dropped the two rabbits, these were much weaker and both had cores on their heads rather than inside their bodies.

He gave one of the cores to the injured pup and then consumed the other core himself and then allowed the rest of the pups to take the meat. The other pups wagged their tails in excitement as they dug into the meat with their fangs.

"Brother we are very thankful for your kind gesture, I am Azar Koh, this is my sister Azar Kia and we come from the Azar Wolf Clan along with the rest of these pups."

Zaro pondered for a moment before replying, "My name is Zaro, a lone wolf from these forests."

The two stared at him in disbelief, how could he get so strong without being in a wolf pack?! Or perhaps he was just hiding his background for some reason.

"If brother Zaro doesn't have a wolf pack perhaps you would like to join us instead?" Kia suggested as Zaro sensed a smile coming from her.

However, Zaro knew that hunting alone would be the better option as he wouldn't have to burden himself in feeding the rest of the pack. But he couldn't just leave the pups alone to starve! Also, if he trained them up maybe they could be of great help in the future!

"Well... I would love to... but-"

Before Zaro could finish Koh interrupted and said, "Please don't trouble yourself! It was just a suggestion... no need to take it too seriously!"

"It's alright, I won't be joining but rather I will leave the remains of the animals I hunt scattered around this area of the forest, so, you can take the meat. I will be just harvesting their cores while you can focus on increasing your strength slowly."

This seemed like the best option, rather than leaving heaps of corpses littered around the forest and going to waste, it was better to allow them to have them instead. However, this idea didn't exactly cheer the wolves up but rather they lowered their heads again in embarra.s.sment.

"Hmm... then... once you increase your strength... I require two cores from each of you as payment for my help!"

"Yes, that sounds like a plan! We will gladly accept your offer!" When all of the pups heard this they all nodded in agreement. With everything sorted out, Zaro left them and continued the hunt, however, instead of spearing through the entire outer forest, he patrolled the forest around the open area and circled the pups while moving away each time.

This allowed him to understand animal tracks, spot plants which seemed to have something similar to a beast core inside of them and find prey hiding inside holes. It was perfect for practicing other hunting methods rather than his. .h.i.t and run method of hunting.
