4 The Flash Back 4

"Finally I finished this load of work" Sophia sighed.

she checks her watch "I should get going, I think I could barely make it to the end of the game " said inwardly.

Sophia always felt like she didn't have time for her son since the death of his father.

after all of the responsibility of the house was on her shoulder, she was forced to work overtime to secure the stability of her family.

and her desire to give Walker a better life that led to her neglect him when he was still a child.

Sophia was feeling guilty when Walker never complained to her like kids his age for not having toys like other children his age or why he didn't get the chance to go to amus.e.m.e.nts parks.

she felt like her beloved kid matured in contrast to other kids his age, and when Walker started searching for a part-time job to help her.

it was like someone stabbed her with a knife to her heart.

she knows that he was doing this for her, he didn't wish her to carry the responsibility of the house alone.

she had mixed emotions, she was feeling the warmth from her son and his gesture to help her, and failure because to her that she failed to give her son a normal childhood.

Although what she did to raise her kid was something remarkable for her to raise a child alone.

when walker chooses a basketball as a sport to play in middle school, she was happy that her son has a hobby since all he did was finding ways to help her and that was render her speechless, although she scolds him he was stubborn in this matter.

Sophia bought him a basketball and new shoes when he received them happiness was written all over his face when she saw that genuine smile she was happy that her son loves her present.

She always saw her son practice diligently, but she has never been able to see her son play in a real game because she was forced to work multiple jobs to make ends meet since the company she worked for declared bankruptcy.

she always heard that her son was good at basketball and he even earn a scholars.h.i.+p to a private high school to play basketball.

Walker informed her about the state finals. Then ask her to come to the game, when she sees that hopeful expression. She promised him that she will be there to watch him play.

When that urgent work comes her way, she was mad that her supervisor gave her all of his work to go watch his son's game even though she asks for a day off to go watch her son's match.

Sophia knows that if she refuses. She would be fired and because of the unemployment rate is high and if she gets fired it would be hard to get a job.

Sophia knows that she wouldn't make it in time yet if she finishes her work faster she could at least watch the second half.

She told her son not to wait for her and that she would be there for the second half.

Although he told her that is alright. She could sense a tiny disappointed in his voice that he tries to cover up.

Sophia took the subway to reach the arena, it took her 20 minutes to reach the stadium. She enters the stadium found her seat when she looks at the clock of the game there is still time before the end of the game.

"thank G.o.d I reach the stadium on time or I would have regretted," said inwardly but she was br.i.m.m.i.n.g with joy that she could watch her son's game

----

the game come to the wire there was still 10 second remaining and the ball in Walker's hands.

Sophia felt nervous for her son it was a deciding play for his team if he makes it they win if he miss it they lose.

Walker attack the basket he burst past the player that was defending him, he jumps to lay it up.

The forward of Mountain Oak jump to block him from behind, but he b.u.mps with him.

Walker shot the ball, it hit the rim and didn't go in and before the referee call the foul a scream was heard.

When everybody checks the source of the cry it was walker how was laying under the basket after his trie to get the layup in time, the agony was written all over his face.

the paramedic and the paramedic approach him.

"Walker everything is going to be okay stay calm where do you feel pain," asked the paramedic

"My back," said Walker as he was gritting his teeth, his face was pale.

"try to stand by yourself," said the paramedic, Walker tries but his leg couldn't respond.

"my legs wouldn't respond," said Walker and he starts panicking in his eyes.

"It's okay don't think about it we are going to the hospital right now, " the paramedic tries to calm Walker down.

the stretcher reaches the court they put Walker on it and then carried him out of the court to the ambulance waiting outside.

When they reach the outside and about to enter the ambulance, a woman was arguing with a police officer.

"We are you going ma'am," said the police officer

"I want..to ..see .. my ..son," Sophia said while sobbing her eye was red because she was crying.

"sorry ma'ma this an only staff could enter," said the Police Officer

Walker how was on the stretcher saw his mom arguing with the police officer he was conflicted should he be happy that she makes it here to watch him play or be sad that he made her cry.

"she is my mom," said Walker to the paramedic while pointing at her

"ok I will go get her," said the paramedic.

" ma'ma I told you're not allowed to be here," said the police officer expressionless.

"my...son...just...got ...injured...I need to see him" Sophia said.

Before the police officer responded the paramedic arrived and asked:"Madame are you, Mrs. Hamilton,"

"Yes it's me" she answered.

"I need you to come with us to the hospital," said the paramedic.

"OK," she answered.

When she saw her son fall awkwardly. She felt as if her heart shattered when she heard his cry.

She didn't even know how she reaches the other side of the arena where the ambulance would be.

She enters the ambulance and saw her son his face was pale she tries to control her emotion because she wants at least help her son calm down.

When Walker saw his mother up close, then saw her red eyes he felt guilty and start to blame himself for giving her a scare with this injury. So he tries to muster a smile for his mother to ease her up.

When they reach the hospital after the check-up by the doctor told an intern to lead Walker to do an MRI for his back.

After doing the MRI they put him in a bed, then wait for the results of the MRI.

After Walker was set in his bed Sophia come close to him she didn't know what to say to her son.

"When did you make it to the arena, " said Walker to break the awkward silence.

"In the middle of the fourth Quarter," said Sophia.

"So, you see me play lame," said Walker with a smile on his face.

Sophia saw the smile of her son, she knows that he is smile was fake, it just to not let her feel worried about him.

"NO, you played great, okay now get a rest I will go out for a minute," said Sophia.

she was trying not to cry in front of her son, so she decided to go take a breath outside and control her emotions before coming back to the room.

Walker saw the back of his mother and saw her shoulders shaking he know she was going to cry in the outside and didn't want him to know about it, Walker was criticizing himself for letting his mother cry. He knows her difficulty, so he wants her to make her happy, but he did the complete opposite.

Walker was still in a daze thinking on how stupid he was for making his mother cry the door of his hospital room was opened, and a doctor enters with his MRI scans.

"Where is your Mother," asked the doctor.

"She went to the restroom" replied Walker, with nervousness in his voice.

"Okay, I will wait for her," said the doctor.

"Could you tell me first?" said Walker.

"it's better to wait for your mom" replied the doctor.

"No, she wouldn't be able to take it, so please tell me "replied Walker

"Okay" Sighed the doctor because of the stubbornness of the child in front of him and how much he cares for his mom.

"Please don't sugar-coat the truth, " said Walker.

" okay there is bad and good news which one should I start with," said the doctor.

"so be ready mentally" warned the doctor.
