144 Curse Examination 4

"With multi domain warfare training."

"Ah, yeah that would do it."

Having undergone the same training as Terra was currently struggling with Solaris instantly understood her pain.

"How is she doing?"

"My adorable disciple is still at the brute forcing stage."

"And she has tried that how many times now?"

"11."

"Ah. Then it can't be helped…"

When Solaris had tried the exact same thing Terra did over and over she had felt her blood boiling even long after she figured out how to complete the exercise.

"Are you sure I can't just give her a tiny hint?"

"Yeah I am, don't. As you know the program is meant to encourage independent action, which is a vital part of the 125th's doctrine. If we helped her here it would undo all my efforts in training her so far."

Seeing that Dax really had thought about helping his student, but chose not to for her own sake Solaris turned a bit more understanding to his stance.

"What if she gives up?"

"Then that's her limit, which will be regrettable as she is showing so much potential."

Showing a bitter expression as he spoke words he didn't believe for a second, Dax made Solaris drop that subject and move on to the reason for her visit.

"I found something interesting in the 11th sanctuary that's allied with mine."

Solaris' role in dealing with Dax's curse was to look through the angel sanctuaries vast archives and research not only the curse, but also the strange creatures that had used it against him.

"So is it about the curse, or the 'creatures'?"

"The creatures."

What Solaris had found was a series of scrolls pertaining to the luna exodus. When a calamity struck the planet about half a million years ago it had suddenly become uninhabitable, but before that the angels had gathered the people and animals of the land in vast sanctuaries to s.h.i.+eld them from harm. The sanctuaries themselves where a gift from the divine creatures that once lived along with the angels, and legend had it that the countless gigantic structures were constructed in a single day by those creatures, leading Dax to believe that the creatures they ran into on the moon where what remained of those divine creatures that for some unknown reason didn't return to the planet once it was hapiteble after the calamity.

"So what did you learn?"

"It's about their weaponry. I found something that reminded me a lot of the technology of your world, look at this."

Forming a runic formation in the air above her Solaris pulled out an old parchment scroll and spread it out on the floor.

"This is….. Not supposed to be here."

Scanning the paper Dax instantly recognized the mathematical formulas in front of him as his face turned grim.

"So you know what it is? I brought it with me because it looked like some of the formations I saw on those creatures."

"Yeah I know what it is. It's a formula to achieve faster than light travel."

"Then how about this one?"

Pulling out another scroll for Dax to examine, the gravity of their current situation seemed to dawn on her.

"This one I don't immediately recognize, but it is some sort of field generation formula…. With knowledge like this there's no reason for this planets technology to be so far behind, by all means if these formulas could be understood this world should already have reached deep into the stars. Where did you find all this?"

Even if such theories alone weren't sufficient to develop the means of s.p.a.ce travel, there were clear signs of them being developed in relation to other formulas and constants that should be impossible for a planet of this technological advancement to develop.

"At the deepest level of the sanctuary I picked up a faint mana signature that was identical to the ones of the doors on the moon, so I opened it and found a hidden section with those scrolls, and this."

Pulling out something else from the storage formation Dax completely froze when he saw it. It was a small pale rock, but strangely familiar runes were inscribed on every single millimeter of its surface.

"Is that?"

"Yeah, it's some kind of s.h.i.+elding formation, completely identical to the ones those creatures used."

"I've come bringing pressents!- What's up with the att.i.tude in here?"

A few hours later Lilly came to visit with a few bottles of booze, but was immediately put off seeing Dax and Solaris sitting soberly in silence.

"Did somebody die?"

"Not exactly…"

"Is this another one of those situations."

Seeing Dax hesitant to explain Lilly immediately frowned when she saw she was being left out.

"Sadly it is, sorry. Not even Lux knows about this."

"And that's supposed to make me feel better?"

"...."

Seeing both Dax and Solaris remain silent in the face of her ridicule Lilly breathed a deep sigh.

"Is this for my protection?"

"It is."

".... Okay then."

Still not completely okay with her comrades not depending on her Lilly sat down and stated her ultimatum.

"I'll demand compensation for this at a later date, from both of you. And refusal is not allowed."

"That's fine, name your price when you need my a.s.sistance."

"Okay, I promise I'll explain whenever possible."

With both Solaris and Dax agreeing to her demand a small smile formed on Lilly's face, which she quickly hid before continuing on with her original plans.

"Then with that matter settled let's drink and be merry!"

With a wave of her hand Lilly summoned some gla.s.ses for the trio using wind magic to pull them from a nearby self as she put on a bright smile and started pouring drinks, while indicating that neither Dax nor Solaris could refuse.
