143 Curse Examination 3

"Really? With who?"

"The students, and a lot of the teachers too."

"Somehow I find that really hard to believe…"

In the middle of one of Dax's examinations Victor suddenly struck up a subject the qiton had not expected, not to mention doubted in the highest degree. It had been a few weeks since Dax started teaching at the magic academy, and in that short timeframe he found himself to be mostly feared by the students, while the other teachers kept their distance.

"I'm pretty sure the students fear me, I've read their heart rates and timed pupil dilation along with their average response times and they're universally quite fearful of me."

"Sure they fear you a tiny bit, that is to be expected after how you treated the more problematic students. But it is also true that most of the students I've talked to say they respect you deeply, and think of you as something between a slightly strict parent and a caring, close friend."

"That really doesn't seem that way to me… More importantly I didn't know you taught cla.s.ses."

Learning new information Dax momentary ignored the issue of his own perception which greatly contrasted with how he himself and ICI saw the situation and inquired about Victor taught.

"I teach close combat for advance mage students and complex formation crafting, also I occasionally give lectures that's free for all students to attend, which is quite popular."

"I see… Advance students are the third years right?"

"Yeah, we call first year students juniors or beginners while second years are seniors and 3rd years are advance students that have chosen a major. But more importantly the second years really like you, so have a bit more confidence."

At the same time out on the practice fields a small group of students were doing self study, reviving what they had learned from the day's self defence course.

"Like this?"

"Mmm. But use your core a bit more, that'll help."

"Okay, thanks for the help Mare."

"... No problem."

"Mare can you show me that throw Lux did at the end of the lesson? I just can't wrap my head around it."

"Sure. Come at me."

Over the last few weeks Mare, with the help of Mai and Vanessa, had become quite popular in cla.s.s when they all found out she was Lux's long time student that had traveled with her. The students also quickly found out that Mare acted cold not because she didn't care about anyone, but because she didn't know how to interact with people. As the beastkin had warmed up to the cla.s.s she had become extremely close friends with Mai and Vanessa, and the trio would more often than not be together at most times of day, something both Lux and Dax were extremely happy seeing.

"Mare can we spar again now!?"

Rudy, the energetic child that he also took quite well to Mare. The second he learned that Mare, Venessa and Mai were training in the morning he instantly joined them and after that he would constantly ask to spar with her wearing a large bright smile all the while doing so.

"Sure Rudy, but wait a bit."

Suddenly taking her attention of the energetic youth as he large fox like ears on top of her head twitched, Mare drew quite a bit of attention to herself.

"Mare what's wrong?"

Noticing that her friend had picked up some sort of sound coming from the sky above, Mai went over to her to find out what was going on.

"We're getting a visitor, wait a bit."

"A visitor?"

WIth a questioning look Mai tried getting more information out of her friend, but the beastkin just silently looked up at the sky.

"Mare what's wrong?"

Vanessa also picked up on her friends strange att.i.tude and walked over to see what was wrong with her, but stopped in her tracks as she was the most mana sensitive of the students present and picked up on it first.

"W-what is that?"

Soon the other students also noticed there was something strange going on and stopped their training as they started looking towards the heavy and dominant presence that aproced them from the sky above. Descending like a lightning bolt from the clear sky some mysterious creature landed like a meteor without kicking up a single speck of dust or making a sound. Rising up to her feet the tall blond creature unwrapped herself from the wings she had surrounded herself with as her emerald green eyes inspected her surroundings.

"An angel…"

"No that's an archangel… I've never seen one before."

Being citizens of the central kingdom that was under the protection of the 14th sanctuary the students all knew of the creature that had just landed a few meters in front of them, even if they had never seen one in person. The archangel in question seemed most unusual however, as she didn't wear the usual white dress they had come to be a.s.sociated with, but some kind of gray wool sweater while her hair was braided in a large French braid that she matched with a pair of blue jeans, as for what any of those terms meant was none of the students knew. The slightly odd choice of clothing aside the students were definitely sure they were looking at a divine being. Having landed with no issue Solaris looked around to orient herself, spotting a group of students looking at her like she just fell out of the sky or something.

(How rude can these children be? Oh, wait that's..)

Having spotted a familiar face Solaris walked towards the group of students at a brisk pace as she bloomed a friendly smile, which only made every single student more fearful.

"How have you been Mare?"

Except the only one among them that actually knew the archangel that is.

"I've been good."

"I'm glad to hear that."

Planting her hand on top of Mare's head both people expressed bright smiles towards each other for a short while, making Mai and Vanessa along with the other students extremely confused.

"By the way who are these children? Are they picking on you?"

Instantly the confusion turned to fear, as the archangels voice turned cold while she quietly spread her wings.

"No. They're my cla.s.smates, and good friends."

But crisis was luckily avoided by Mare's honesty.

"Oh I see, by the way where's Dax?"

"He should be done with treatment, so teaching Terra the usual place.

"Thanks Mare, I'll talk to you later."

Satisfied with the information she received (along with the amount of headpads she gave Mare) Solaris flew off towards one of the teachers dometories, while Mare was surrounded by her fellow students that demanded information regarding her relations.h.i.+p with an archangel and gathering around her.

"Dax is in treatment?... Is he sick?"

---

"Arg this is f.u.c.king hard!"

Pulling off her mask in frustration Terra loudly complained about the difficulty of her new training. Having build up her experience and combat abilities to a somewhat acceptable level Terra had started a new chapter of her training, and found it way harder than she had expected.

"Yeah it is, and you're struggling with it a lot. Which is why you need to keep at it."

Without taking off his mask Dax gestured for Terra to sit back down as he continued explaining.

"This is also something you're not used to, take your time and we'll slowly work up the difficulty."

"Fine.."

Putting on her maks again with a hint of reluctance, Terra's vision turned dark as she felt her mind slip away.

Suddenly finding herself in a brightly lit, densely packed city of some kind with all sorts of different people going on with their daily life.

[SECURE OBJECTIVE ALPHA.]

Hearing the cold and unfeeling voice of Dax's ICI unit Terra snapped out of her daze as she looked towards a nearby highrise that she started walking towards while blending into the crowd.

[HOSTILES ALERTED.]

"s.h.i.+-"

Not even getting to utter a single word Terra's vision turned hazy as she felt her chest getting pierced by some sort of knife.

"f.u.c.king h.e.l.l!"

This time Terra threw her mask away in frustration, which Dax caught mid air.

"I can't even make it to the f.u.c.king building!"

"Of course you can't. You're still not using a single one of the tools I taught you, all you see is the crowd around you. Read the terrain, then you'll at least get to the target building somewhat intact."

"But how can I do that when they're mixed in with the civ's!?"

"That's the part I can't help you with sorry."

"I'm going to cool my head."

Storming off Terra ran into Solaris on the way out.

"Is Dax inside?"

"Yeah he is, with his smug att.i.tude and all."
