137 New Semester 2

As their new teacher suddenly called on one of them by name, and the transfer student of all people attention gathered on the small beastkin in question.

"..Why?"

Speaking for the second time that day Mai was once again admired her voice that still carried traces of reluctance.

"Because."

"I don't wanna."

"Just do it, I'll be good for you to learn a bit more restraint."

"... Fine."

Judging form that belief exchange most of the cla.s.s seemed to pick up on the connection the new teacher and transfer student seemingly shared, which only added to the mystery surrounding them.

"Teacher I have a question!"

"What is it Rudy?"

"Miss Lux do you know Mare?"

(... Good job Rudy.)

Mai could only internally sigh at the compelate social inept.i.tude of her friend while at the same time commending him, after all she and her cla.s.smates all really wanted to know the answer to that question!

"I do. This child is sort of a student of mine."

Leaving the answer part informative, part mysterious as she showed a faint smile in response to the enthusiastic boy Mai saw how her new teacher Lux quickly rose in the boys favorability ratings.

"Now this spar will be without any weapons, use of deadly and or disabling force is is also banned, as is the use of all magic with the sole exception of strengthening magic. I will decide the victor once one party is verbally gives up or is unable to fight, is that understood?"

Moving quickly onwards the teacher quickly prepared an outlined field for the spar to take place in as she quickly explained the simple ruleset.

"... I understand."

While Mare still didn't seem to be entirely awake or willing to fight against her opponent some kind of cold light still seemed to gleam in her eyes as she expressionlessly took a fighting stance.

"Let's get this over with!"

Andrew on the other hand seemed extremely sure of his victory as he displayed a large confident smile while channeling straightening magic through his body and clenched his fists.

"Begin!"

The very second the match started Andrew rushed forward with speed that showed he was at least a somewhat experienced fighter, and quickly closed the range as he struck out with a clenched fist aiming for Mare's cheek.

"Don't blame me for th-"

Completely overconfident in his victory the young knightling didn't even see how Mare moved as she grabbed his extended arm and used his own momentum to smash him ruthlessly into the ground before pinning him down as she still had a lazy facial expression.

"... He's out cold, and therefore unable to fight."

Giving her a.s.sessment as a judge Lux breathed a sigh before declaring Mare the victor and snapping the rest of the cla.s.s out of their collective daze.

"Andrew lost!"

"And in an instant!"

"Mare you are amazing!"

"That move was awesome!"

Instantly the new transfer student received more attention than she ever wanted and prepared to run away, but was blocked by Lux when she grabbed her shoulder and started explaining to the cla.s.s as Andrew's minouns silently dragged him away towards the school infirmary.

"This is what I will teach all of you over the next year's time. How to use the opponent's strength against them is an important cornerstone of combat and a valuable technique to have whether you are aiming to become a knight, mage or something else entirely. There will be no set exam for this cla.s.s, which is why I need to precisely grasp each student's strength and weakness, hence this a.s.sessment. I will also say use this opportunity to say this straight away since some of you might be intimidated what you just saw: If you respect me and Terra as instructors, listen to our advice and ask us when in doubt you will without question pa.s.s this cla.s.s. I'm not asking for ma.s.sive improvements to each of you, nor do I expect you will all be able to do what Mare just did, what I am asking for is proof that you have moved in the right direction."

On that note the cla.s.s began. Mai was quite nervous at the start that her new teachers would be overly strict or demanding but quickly found out that they would never ask for something she couldn't do, were extremely kind and patient while taking as much time as possible to make sure every student understood their teachings.

"I have never been looking so much forward to physical exercise as I am now."

After cla.s.s was over Vanessa immediately expressed her positive opinion of their new cla.s.s, which Mai could only agree on.

"Yeah the new teachers really seem to understand me.. I have never felt so much improvement over an such a short time."

Mai had always considered herself quite clumsy by nature, and therefore didn't really like sports or physical exercise that much. But that had all changed just now, her new teachers gave extremely good advice while being patient with her and at the same time pus.h.i.+ng her when she needed it.

"I feel like my power level have grown at least 50 points!"

Rudy had also enjoyed the new cla.s.s quite a bit, perhaps even a bit too much, as evident in how he was smeared all over with dirt but still had a beaming smile. Mai couldn't even count the number of times Rudy had been tossed to the ground by one of the teachers showing him a specific move, after which he would stand up immediately before loudly shouting 'that was amazing!'.

The rest of the cla.s.s (except for Andrew's group that had been absent) all found the new cla.s.s to be extremely interesting and entertaining as well as strangely energizing, spending the rest of their day discussing what they had learned. The next day the success repeated itself and Mai's cla.s.s (again with the exception of Andrew and his group that was absent) spent much time after cla.s.s talking about what they had learned, even as they walked to their next new cla.s.s that had the mysterious and strange name of 'gastronomically viable home economics'. The cla.s.s took place in a lecture hall that felt quite large for a single cla.s.s to use.

"I wonder where our teacher is at?"

5 minutes after cla.s.s was supposed to start there was still no sign of the new teacher.

"Late on the first day? Ha that's rich, let's go!"

Even when Andrew and his goons left the rest of the cla.s.s felt that he was not being that rude, afterall it was extremely rare for a teacher to be late for their own cla.s.s, but a minute later he finally arrived.

"Sorry I'm late, I had a meeting that ran too long."

When Mai heard about the cla.s.s she expected their teacher to be an older lady or something along those lines considering the subject matter, but in walked a tall and muscular scarred demonkin with a overall relaxed att.i.tude and took the central stand.

"Welcome to the cla.s.s of gastronomically viable home economics, my name is Dax and I will be the teacher for this subject. Explained simply this cla.s.s will be a combine advanced gastronomy with viable home economics and frontier cooking to make everyone here at least somewhat competent home cook that able to tell toxic and non toxic ingredients apart. Any questions?"

With a brief introduction of the subject they would be covering, the demonkin teacher only seemed to increase confusion in cla.s.s.

"Yeah I have a question."

"Go ahead."

Still having a relaxed att.i.tude the strange teacher had a large smile on his face as he prepared to answer the male student asking the question.

"This cla.s.s is more or less a cooking cla.s.s right?"

"Yeah basically."

"Then why isn't it gender segregated?"

"That is an excellent question."

When her cla.s.smate mentioned that fact Mai also realized how strange it was for them to receive such education all a full cla.s.s. Normally only girls would take such a cla.s.s, as it was commonly to woman's role to cook at home. As smalltalk erupted and discussion surrounding the strangeness of such a cla.s.s the new teacher took a second to seriously consider the question before putting up a hand to quiet the cla.s.s as he answered.

"Now what was you name?"

"It's Mark."

"Okay Mark, you're a student of the knight course correct?"

"That is correct."

"And you plan to join the knight academy after graduating from here and becoming a fully fledged knight correct?"

"Yes I am indeed planing to become a knight."

"Good, then let's say you graduate without issue and become a knight. Then out on a frontier patrol your group accidentally loses your supplies, what will you do then?"

"I…. Would….. You have a good point."

With a quick exchange Mark seemed to at least somewhat accept the reason for the subject.

"Another thing to consider is the inevitable truth of this world is that there's nothing more s.e.xy than a person that knows how to cook extremely delicious food!"

"Eh?"

Dropping his relaxed att.i.tude the strange teacher clenched his fist showing off his dense, scar ridden muscles as a fire seemed to burn in his eyes as he said something extremely dumb that made Mai involuntarily emit a strange sound in confusion.

"What exactly do you mean teacher?"

Before Mai had noticed it the boys of the cla.s.s were suddenly and unanimously focused on the cla.s.s as if trying to absorb the knowledge (except for Rudy, that was already interested when he saw the battle hardened teacher) as another male cla.s.smate spoke up while adjusting his gla.s.ses.

"Of course I meant exactly what I said! 'The shortcut to the heart is through the stomach' is an old proverb where I'm from, and it is absolutely correct! Try and imagine your dream woman, now imagine her standing in your kitchen perfectly preparing a ma.s.sive streak!"

"""""OOOOO!"""""

(This is why boys are so…)

Physically facepalming as she breathed out a deep sigh while the boys in her cla.s.s overflowed with enthusiasm and vigor Mai realized that their new teacher was either extremely skilled at manipulation, or just a straight up idiot.

"Now it's the same for you girls too, even if you refuse to admit it!"

Still strangely energetic, the bizarre teacher walked up to Mai that had made the unfortunate mistake of sitting at the front and grabbed her shoulders firmly as he looked into her eyes and spoke like he was performing the most important speech of his life.

"I am completely serious! Miss please close your eyes and imagine your dream man!"

"I don't really want to."

"It sounded like a suggestion but it really wasn't."

"O-okay then."

Reluctantly following the truly bizarre teachers instructions Mai shut her eyes while making a mental note of never sitting in front again.

"Do you have a clear image in mind?"

"... I do."

"Then imagine him, standing in the kitchen effortlessly making that favorite dish of yours while wearing a large ap.r.o.n and when he serves it to you personally it is even more delicious way than you have ever tasted before! What would your reaction be!?"

".... Marriage."

"""""OOOOOOOO!!!!!"""""

"Eh?!- I mean that's no-"

Having been caught off guard by the intense atmosphere her teacher accidentally spoke her mind, only realizing that when she heard the enthusiastic shouts of her male cla.s.smates, Rudy included.

"No need to be embarra.s.sed about it, we have come to a greater understanding."

"I have no idea what you mean!"

Blooming completely pink up to her ears Mai hid her face for a bit before realizing that all the other girls secretly shared her opinion.

After calming down a bit Mai and her cla.s.smates more or less accepted the strange treacher in front of them, and even slightly started looking forward to the lesson, that is all except for a single student.

"So I understand that being able to make good food is an important life skill that my fellow students would benefit from learning, but mr Dax do you seriously want us to believe a brute like you knows how to cook better than myself, someone that stands above normal people?"
