Hearing the flat voice of her roommate Mai's mind went into extreme overdrive as she rushed out of bed and hurriedly fixed her bed hair then put on clothes as she rushed out the door, only to find her roommate standing outside waiting for her.

Realizing she had been tricked by her roommate, Mai put on a pout as she lightly punched her the elven girl out of frustration.

"We'll really be late you keep that up, let's go."

Today was the first day of the second semester in the central Kingdom's magic and knight academy, the finest school in the central Kingdom, located about 4 hours by carriage outside of Kingstead. Originally established as a military training facility the academy is almost entirely self sufficient, with its own well and large food stores and several large dormitories that combined to make the facility feel more like a frontier fortress than the academy it now operated as. Students of all ages would enroll based on performance in the obligatory 3 year primary education, or simply by paying for admission. Mai and her roommate Venessa were part of the former category, having grown up in Kingstead as childhood friends both showed academic prowers and above average magic potential enrolled together and were now second year students in the magic course.

Meeting the bright and constantly energetic Rudy on her way to cla.s.s Mai instantly felt her tiredness blow away, in her opinion it was simply impossible for anyone to not be affected by his bright and cheerful presence.

Having made their way to cla.s.s on time without issue Mai, Rudy and Vanessa were immediately greeted by another surprise when their cla.s.sroom teacher started the day out with an announcement.

"Today we have a transfer student greeting our cla.s.s and the knight course, please enter."

As their teacher quickly moved the process along none of her students had time to be surprised by the extremely rare occurrence of students transferring in before the person in question walked in the door and introduced herself. The second Mai saw the new transfer student she was awe.

The transfer student was a beastkin girl around her own age with short stature and long brown hair and brown eyes that had an overall mysterious air around her.

"h.e.l.lo, my name is Mare. There's no reason to get along with me as I was forced to join this cla.s.s so please just ignore my existence."

Not even looking at anyone the transfer student Mare spoke in a flat and unenthusiastic voice that made Mai really believe she was being forced into joining the cla.s.s. After her short self introduction the entire cla.s.s froze, and the transfer student apparently took that as acceptance of her self introduction before sitting down in a random empty chair.

"..... Okay let's continue on, as this is the first day of the semester…."

After the slightly awkward start to the day the cla.s.s went through their moning cla.s.ses without any more issues, and the new student revealed herself to be a genius able to answer any question the teacher threw her way, but like she indicated in her self introduction she didn't socialize at all.

The morning and noon quietly pa.s.sed and before anyone knew it was finally time to meet some of their new teachers in a new personal defence training course. After changing out from their school uniforms into gym clothes their cla.s.s made their way to one of the countless practice fields that were a tiny bit cold in the autumn wind.

"Welcome to the new personal self defence course, my name is Lux and I will handle anti personnel self defence training."

"And I am Terra Williams, I will handle anti monster personnel self defence training. After an introductory period were we will both be present for instructions, after which will be individual lectures."

As her two new teachers took a moment to introduce themselves and briefly talk about the cla.s.s Mai took the moment to commit them to memory. The first treacher with the unusual name appeared to be the oldest of them and carried herself with a certain mature and professional aura around her that made Mai naturally take everything she said seriously. The personal self defence teacher stood at around 1 meter and 80 centimeters tall with short white hair and strange amber coloured eyes combined with an athletic scare riddled body that made her have a quite unique appearance. The anti monster self defence trainer in question had long black hair cut in a slightly strange manner where the one side was sort while the rest remained long, and bright slightly unnatural red eyes that reminded Mai more of gemstones than normal eyes. she was of similar height and also had an extremely well trained athletic build visible under her light clotting that seemed to emphasize ease of movement above all else.

"First of all we will need to a.s.sess the overall physical fitness of each student, as such we will start the cla.s.s off with a series of exercises. First off-"

But as Mai expected some of the cla.s.s didn't quite take to the new teachers. A group of n.o.ble students lead by a viscount youth named Andrew that truly was the example of a n.o.ble knight with his tall and solid structure combined with flowing blonde hair and bright blue eyes.

Mai could only help but sigh at her cla.s.smates behavior. Ever since the first day of cla.s.s Andrew and the group that had formed around him had been extremely rude to teachers, using his personal and family connections to act as he pleased, skipping out on cla.s.s and getting advantageous grades.

"Okay let's do it this way then, anyone that can pa.s.s a quick test will be completely executed from cla.s.s and pa.s.s without any issues. How about that?"

Seemingly having expected this issue to pop up the personal defence teacher proposed a way to anyone to get out of training, but as Mai had predicted Andrew didn't take.

"As if! I seems you two are new here so I'll tell you how this works, of you don't want to be fired you will listen to what I say!"

That had happened a few times before, Mai clearly remembered the first time Andrew had used his connections to not only have a teacher fired, but also compealty ruined that person's career. After that incident the unofficial stance of the academy became to ignore anything Andrew did, and just leave him and his group be.

"Yeah how about no. In this cla.s.s your a.s.s is mine, that means you will listen to my instructions or suffer the consequences."

Completely dropping her warm and caring att.i.tude Mai felt something changed about her new personal defence teacher as she walked towards Andrews group with a large smile on her face.

"This is my cla.s.s, how you act will entirely decide how enjoyable your experience here is. Now I don't give a s.h.i.+t about your family Andrew, or that your father is a viscount that thinks his pathetic excuse for a son will become a better person just because he cheats his way through this academy. What I care about is the task I have been a.s.signed, and competing it."
