122 The Archangel's Request 1

Opal was struck with confusion when she woke up in some unknown place after pa.s.sing out. First he had been 'rescued' by some strange demonkin, then hogtied and tossed into some strange vehicle and pa.s.sed out from a mix of exhaustion and stress only to wake up in some strange large marble hall where stars were visible overhead.

"Ah, you're finally awake. Come and have some food~ It'll help."

Rus.h.i.+ng to her feet as she heard the source of her new trauma Opal didn't notice that all her wounds had been cleaned and dressed and she wore new clothing.

"Don't just invite someone to dinner after you kidnap them!"

Closing the distance in the blink of an eye Opal send a perfect roundhouse kick towards her kidnappers jaw in an attempt to knock him out.

"Oho~ Nice form, have some food I've been experimenting with some new recipes and need some feedback."

Catching Opal's kick without any issue Dax showed a warm smile and gestured towards the table he had been setting up, making the pressure completely disappear from Opal as she forgot the reason she was angry in the first place.

"O-okay… But what is that even?"

After sitting down at the table Opal noticed her wounds had been dressed and the dirty rag she had worn before had been replaced with some kind of white silk pants and a s.h.i.+rt that had been adjusted so her fins also fit without issue.

"T-thanks for treating my wounds… And these new clothes too."

Having learned from her mother that one should always give thanks when receiving something Opal meekly spoke out as she was almost forced to sit down by Dax.

"You need to thank Solaris for that, she'll be here in a second."

"Who?"

"You'll see."

Noticing that the table where set for 3 people Opal figured that this 'Solaris' would be with them in a few minutes she decided to wait as she looked around the large hall once more. The large hall were mostly empty, except for some chairs and a board with some things she couldn't understand on it, the table 3 chair setup where she was seated and the strange vehicle that must have brought her to this strange place.

"Where am I I wonder?..."

Speaking out loud Opal wondered as she looked at the bright stars above she didn't recognize.

"Where? This is the 14th angel sanctuary, to the north of the central Kingdom."

"Yeah right."

Having heard of the legendary sanctuary in stories back when she was just a kid Opal had a hard time believing they were currently in such a place.

"Is dinner ready yet? I'm looking forward to it."

Until Solaris walked in that is.

"Yeah sit down and give me a few more minutes."

"Okay~ I'm looking forward to see if you can entertain me."

Sitting down in a casual manner Solaris tried (and failed) to hide her growing expectations as her 6 pure white wings fluttered slightly in excitement.

"Ah you finally woke up, my name is Solaris, a member of the council here and a archangel… Dax?"

"What?"

Answering without looking as he was busy checking the temperature of some vegetable oil Dax almost dropped his thermometer completely into the oil when Solaris responded.

"Your rescue is frozen solid in fear."

After breathing some life into Opal and getting her to calm down slightly Dax finished up preparations for dinner.

"Thanks for waiting~ Tonight we have a quick summer inspired 3 course meal, first up is deep fried carp on a bed of green spring salad with lime vinaigrette and a sweet white wine on the side to balance the salad."

"Finally!"

Immediately digging in Solaris looked more like some kind of adorable tiny animal than a fierce archangel with power than rivaled a G.o.d, Opal however didn't touch her meal and only sat stunned.

"I-is this really okay for me to eat?"

Asking Dax that sat opposite her Opal seemed intimidated of eating such a fancy meal.

"Of course it is, anything else would be rude to the chef."

"But-"

"Is this perhaps the first time you're eating such a meal miss Opal?"

Seeing Opals hesitation Dax made an educated guess.

"It is."

"Then let me tell you about the rules."

Turning completely serious in his voice as he showed a stearn face Dax made Opal sit up straight as she swallowed in nervousness.

"Okay, first rule: Relax and calm down."

"Eh?"

Taking a completely different direction than she had taught Opal was dumbstruck for a moment as Dax continued explaining.

"Come on, take a deep breath and taste some of the wine, good. Being relaxed and calm is the best way to notice all the flavors of a meal, so don't mind any manners you are not used to."

"But I can't just-"

"If you were at some restaurant having this meal you would have most likely already paid for it, as long as you don't disturb other guests too much talking and making a bit of noise is no issue. The second rule is to taste and appreciate the food, that means to eat it when it arrives, but still taking time to enjoy it. But everyone eats at different speeds so it's not really a rule one needs to follow to the letter, now eat before it gets cold and remember that there's 2 more dishes after this one."

Seeing the conversation as over Dax started eating himself, forcing Opal to do the same as she calmed down slightly.

"I-is this really fish?"

Looking at the slightly browned white parcel placed on a bed of salad Opal nervously poked it with her fork to find that it was crispy as Dax explained.

"Yeah, but it has been coated with a mix of ricemel and sparkling water which makes the coating pop up and become extremely crisp and light while retaining the moisture and aroma of the fish."

With the explanation given Opal nervously used her fork to carve into the fish, and indeed found it to be perfectly cooked and tender when she tasted it.

"Delicious!"

"Glad you like it~"

With her initial tension broken Opal quickly inhaled the rest of the dish before almost licking the plate clean.

"That was great! Ah sorry."

Shouting out her honest opinion Opal remembered too late that she sat right next to an archangel, and hurriedly calmed down as her figure shank and her face blossomed in full crimson.

"I know right? I was right not to kill him, that would truly have been a waste."

But instead of chastising her Solaris only acted superior for some reason.

"Like h.e.l.l you could kill me even if you tried seriously."

Retorting Solaris' smug comment as she worked on something at the stove Opal wonder what kind of creature could casually banter with an archangel like this.

"I definitely could. I still haven't fought against you with my favorite spear."

"What, you really believe that toothpick could hurt me? In your dreams."

"A toothpick? How dare you, that spear is a weapon given to me by the G.o.ds, show some respect."

"'Given by the G.o.ds'? Stop smoking mushrooms, they don't exist."

"So you really are a non believer? that explains the lack of education, primitive."

"Six winged pigeon."

"One armed brute."

"Numbskull."

With the banter devolving into simple name calling Opal felt her checks start hurting as she seriously wondered if the 2 beings in front of her really were as old, wise and powerful as she had believed a few minutes ago.

"Second dish is ready! It's fried chicken breast served with quinoa and fruit salad and orange pan sauce, extremely well paired with a sweet white wine this time."

"Sweet! But still salty and satisfying at the same time!"

"Yeah yeah, and this I can't get enough of this gentle flavor!"

With both Solaris and Opal giving their completely honest and positive opinions the main dish was quickly completely eradicated, after which all parties quietly enjoyed their wine as Dax spoke up.

"You village have been liberated."

"What! How did that happen so fast!?"

"That's because you slept for 2 days, your injuries were quite severe after all."

Taking a few seconds as she was also slightly downcast from remembering the suffering she went through when she was captured Opal put on serious expression.

"Thank you very much for freeing my people."

Standing up in a formal manner Opal bowed down deeply as she expressed sincere words of grat.i.tude, but kept on bowing even after she had finished speaking.

"..."

"What? You can say it."

Sensing her hesitation Dax gave his approval.

"... C-could you please let me return to my village?"

"Of course."

"Eh?"

Giving an instant and positive response to a question Opal hadn't expected he would answer she was struck with momentary confusion, making Dax explain.

"That was my intention in the first place after all, as I was requested by my adorable second in command to free you and bring you back there safely. It will have to wait a few days tough, as I have some business that needs doing with Solaris the next few days."

"I see, thank you very much."

Deciding not to think about why he was that kind towards her at the moment Opal sat back down as Dax also switch gears.

"Now I think it's time for desert. It will be a vanilla ice cream with honey pickled apples and peaches served with a light pear cider."
