Chapter 51 The Living Dead

Chapter 46          No Devil Dares to Bar His Path

Liu Ming quickly made the necessary arrangements. With a single phone call, he ordered everything just as Ye Shaoyang had requested. With that settled, there was time to kill. He invited everyone to his office for a quick sip of tea while waiting. n.o.body seemed to mind though, but Ye Shaoyang had one more phone call to make. He needed another a.s.sistant, so he called Li Duo and asked him to come over.

Liu Ming drove, and they soon arrived at his office. Everyone sat down to chat while enjoying the Chrysanthemum tea he prepared. Liu Ming kept on pressing Ye Shaoyang for details, trying to figure him out; soon, this busy-body started to annoy the latter. Ye Shaoyang ignored him and simply laid down on the couch, trying to get some rest. He had to conserve his energy for now. After all, a war might happen soon.

40 minutes quickly pa.s.sed. The phone rang; they had prepared the items now. Ye Shaoyang directed them to send all the items straight to dormitory four. They rushed to the spot, and there it was, all the items were already there in a truck.

Li Duo arrived just in time, as Ye Shaoyang had finished checking the items. Now, everything was ready. Ye Shaoyang ordered everyone else to wait outside, and he entered the dormitory hall alone. He quickly took out his Yin Yang Compa.s.s and found the position he needed—Qian. He put down a sandalwood plank as the base. Then, he pulled out a golden silk cloth from his bag, folded it in half and covered the plank with the cloth. Finally, he lit two yellow candles at both ends. With that, he had set a simple altar. [TL Note: Qian - North West position in fengshui]

Now, he took out a scroll painting and hung it as the background for the altar. He put up an incense burner and lit up three joss stick made of Tibetan Skywood, which had an evil-repelling nature. Then, he lit up mermaid oil lamps at each corner of the hall. He connected all the lamps with lines of red ink, as he chanted, “O' I stand where the room is, sharing with the Mighty King Chakarvarti. With the ray of light he brings, no evil dares to bar his path!”

He spent around half an hour on this, but it was necessary. He only allowed Xiao Ma and Li Duo to come in with the items. Upon seeing such decoration, Xiao Ma asked curiously, “Little Ye, this is rather grand decoration. What is it for?”

“Once we move the statue, there is a chance of breaking the seal. The consequence can be dire. We have to be prepared for the worst,” Ye Shaoyang explained.

“Who is this? Is he Heavenly Master Zhang?” Xie Yuqing came in and asked, as she stared at the painting.

“No, this is Yu Qian.”

“Yu Qian? You mean Yu Qian the actor?” Xiao Ma chipped in jokingly.

“No, Yu Qian was the loyal minister of the Ming Dynasty. He was a national hero,” Ye Shaoyang corrected Xiao Ma with a kick.

“Is he a Daoist then?” Xie Yuqing asked further.

”Well, no. Yu Qian was a strict minister back then, but he died tragically. He was honored as the ‘Loyal Sky Lord’ at the Altar of G.o.ds. Both G.o.ds and demons revere him. That is why his portrait has some degree of evil-repelling effect,” explained Ye Shaoyang. Xie Yuqing nodded and kept quiet. She seemed to understand it now.

Eight mirrors were made to stand in the room two-by-two. They faced inward and formed a square shape. Then, Ye Shaoyang surrounded the mirrors with red ink.

“What is this for now?” Xie Yuqing was curious about everything.

“In case any demon is able to break through the seal, these mirrors can reflect the Yin Qi, blocking their way out. The better alternative would actually be copper mirrors, but gla.s.s mirrors will do.”

Next, two jackhammers were also brought into the hall, although n.o.body even knew how to operate them. Xie Yuqing quickly searched on her phone for some manual instructions, while Liu Ming also called for some men to send over two giant ropes of electric wires to connect the jackhammers to the electricity from the outside. Xiao Ma and Li Duo experimented with equipment outside. Soon, they were able to figure out how to operate the jackhammers. It was not really tough. Ye Shaoyang directed them to move the jackhammers to the statue. They broke the cement, which separated the statue from the floor.

“You need to be very careful with this. Don’t put too much force into it,” Ye Shaoyang kept reminding them.

When the jackhammers started to operate, it did not take long before dust and noise filled the room. Ye Shaoyang took out some masks and distributed them to everyone. Now that they realized the purpose of the masks he ordered, everyone was secretly impressed at how thoughtful he could be.

Once they separated the statue from the floor, Ye Shaoyang turned on the industrial grade cutter and experimented with it for a few minutes. Soon, he became comfortable with it. It was not a complicated machine to operate either. Using the machine, he cut through the base of the statue. He shook the statue lightly. As he had expected, the statue was now swaying. When he saw this, Ye Shaoyang became somewhat relieved. Just as he had hoped, the statue was actually added to the room much later and cemented around the base to keep it steady. Had the statue been built from scratch on that spot, it would be a lot more difficult for him to move the statue away.

Now that the statue was ready to be moved, he signaled everyone to help him with it. There was a single red floor tile where the statue previously stood. The tile measured a meter on each side. It immediately stood out among the sea of grey tiles around it.

“That’s weird. Why is this tile the only one with a different color,” Liu Ming was baffled.

“Hand me the mirror. After that, stay outside. Don’t come in unless I tell you otherwise,” ordered Ye Shaoyang, as he ignored the question.

Once the others left, Ye Shaoyang squatted down and slightly lifted up the tile. The tile moved easily just as he had suspected. It was time to reveal what laid underneath the tile. Ye Shaoyang took a deep breath, and he lifted the tile up completely.

The light of the lamp of eternity revealed a ‘卐’ symbol. Ye Shaoyang took a closer look. Some sort of liquid formed this symbol. The liquid was slimy and had a silverish appearance. He closed his eyes and focused his senses, as he probed the liquid for any suspicious energy. Nothing. So, he tried to touch the liquid with his finger, but to his surprise, it did not adhere to his finger.

“I see, so it’s mercury,” Ye Shaoyang whispered to himself.

Apparently, this symbol was indeed a seal, and it was one that buddhist monks usually used. This particular one was known as the Seal of the Devil Defeating Golden Warrior. Ye Shaoyang knew a thing or two about the Buddhist craft. It required an immense quant.i.ty of energy to cast such a seal. The monk must have been very powerful. Ye Shaoyang noticed a dozen little beads within the mercury droplets. These little beads shone under the light. He gave it a closer look. He had initially thought that they were pearls, but it seemed to be something else. They were all in different sizes. Some were as big as an expensive pearl, some were as small as grains, and some even had different colors on it like a rainbow! Then, it hit him; these were the legendary Buddhist Bone Relics—Sarira!

It seems that the legend was true. This confirmed that a buddhist monk had been here. He had meditated here to achieve Nirvana, separating his body and soul. After he achieved this, the monk had burned his body into Sarira to seal this spirit nest.

Another brilliant idea hit Ye Shaoyang when he realized this. It was rumored that the Sarira a Nirvana left behind actually stored the final thoughts in the monk’s mind. If one had sufficient power, they could enter someone’s consciousness to extract memories or thoughts. Why not give it a try?

Ye Shaoyang immediately sat down with his legs crossed. Then, he closed his eyes and focused to slowly initiate his Divine Eye.

The Third Eye was actually an invisible eye in one’s body. Although it could not be seen and could not be detected, it actually existed. People who cultivated to the level of Necromancer would open their Third Eye, which became the Yin Yang Eye. This advancement would allow them to clearly see any spirit or ghost. Once a person achieved the level of Enlightened, their Third Eye would become the Divine Eye. This eye allowed them to clearly see the truth or nature of all matters and substances. On the other hand, Ye Shaoyang had achieved something even greater. He had cultivated to the level of Heavenly Master. His Divine Eye had the ability of Abhinna. However, he needed to expend a large quant.i.ty of energy everytime he initiated the eye, so he only used it when necessary.

Through his Divine Eye, he saw a sea of calm dark water. Countless dark shadows were visibly struggling, rising up and down in the water, as they roared in anger. In the middle of the water, there was a bridge that rose up from the void. Additionally, there was a giant, mountain-sized golden Buddha statue upon the bridge. The shadows continuously moved in the direction of the statue. However, the golden light that the statue emitted deflected these shadows, which once again dropped into the dark water. But the shadows seemed to lack other options. Once they dropped into the water, they gathered themselves and relentlessly tried to move toward the statue. The cycle went on non-stop. However, Ye Shaoyang knew better, as this was just an illusion that the Buddha light created. It represented the true events that were happening here—the ma.s.sive quant.i.ty of evil spirits trapped inside were trying to break free from the seal. Suddenly, the statue opened its eyes. Two streams of water leaked out of the corner of the eyes and flowed downward.
