25 Chapter 25:

"P-"

"Please help my mate... We were attacked by rogues on our way here and barely escaped with our life." A voice I was not expecting says beside me, clutching onto my shoulder while I narrowed my eyes at the ground.

"a.s.shole." I sneer under my breath, knowing the low-level mage wouldn't hear me.

"Archmage Seria! There are survivors of a rogue attack outside the borders!" The young mage says, fleeing from the gate as Zavier picked me up and played the part perfectly.

"What are you doing here?" I whisper-yell at him when he chuckled lowly and kept his face distraught.

"You truly think that I'd let you come here alone? h.e.l.l to the no." He growls back at me, clearly, there was tension from the words we exchanged and of course, s.e.xual tension.

"I am Archmage Seria. Please state your reason for being here." A confident woman, that sounded like she would eat nails for breakfast, announced to the both of us when I grew weak in his arms.

"Please Archmage. My mate, she was burned by a fire that a rogue mage attacked us with. There were also wolves but I..." He stopped for a moment, his voice cracking a little which surprised me. "I couldn't protect her... Please. All I ask is for anything that may help us get back to my pack." He pleads when I looked up at him, feeling a little sympathetic myself.

Did he actually feel this the other night or was he great at acting?

The Archmage didn't say a word for a moment, looking at the both of us when she turned to one of the young mages.

"Let them in. Get the woman treated and make sure to have a guard with each of them at all times. We can not be so sure of you, but I can heal you the best of my ability." She tells me, letting her gaze linger for a moment before turning to the young mage again. "Now?!" She barks, scaring the poor kid.

Quickly, the young mage allowed us in the gate while Zavier hurried inside and was instantly met with several high-cla.s.s mages ready to harm us.

"Relax. I said one for a reason." Archmage Seria says, shoving past the mages and standing in front of the both of us. Her eyes stared down into mine, her eyes a stone cold grey that seemed almost deadly. "Come. I'll bring you to one of the rooms in our home." She snaps her finger, the way she held herself together almost commanding myself to spill my true reasons for being here.

Zavier slowly followed her, unsure of how to feel about all the witches and mages around. He followed her inside as he gasped at the inside of the coven. I almost blew my cover for how amazing it was.

Several of the furniture and people were lazily hanging in the air with carefree smiles, the only way to travel up was to summon something to allow us to defy gravity. The young mages that were new had no idea how to master flight and were hanging out on the ground floor, lounging around on the couches that were on the ground.

Some kind of mystical creatures were flying around in the air while some kind of pig scrambled around on the ground in search for food. It amazed me how the animals and how a coven was.

There were a few mages practicing spells from across the room in front of us, practicing a lightning spell. It looked to me that rather than teaching the distance of the lightning bolt, the teacher taught how to intensify the lightening and control it.

We didn't see the bolt coming straight for us when I threw up a s.h.i.+eld in front of myself and Zavier, not allowing us to be harmed. Archmage Seria also threw hers up, surprised to find me holding one out as well as the lightning bolt dispersed.

"Oh my G.o.d! I am so sorry, Archmage Seria! I truly didn't mean for that to happen!" The young mage apologizes, bowing and repeatedly apologizing. We both let our defenses down as I slumped back, truly exhausted from the trip here since Jerson was being an a.s.shole and refused to use his super speed to get here.

"It's alright, child. Return to practice." She a.s.sures the mage, motioning for Zavier to continue following her. He followed her into a hallway and nodded for him to enter the room. "I'll be back in a moment. Please do not leave." Zavier nodded allowing her to close the door when he walked over to the bed and laid me down on it.

"How?" I ask, knowing he'd understand the question without me elaborating.

"Simple. I followed you all day and since you've been strangely weak, you didn't teleport once." He shrugs, leaning down and pressing his hand down on my forehead. "Why didn't you say you had a fever? Did your wounds get infected?" Zavier questions when I shook my head and pushed his hand away.

"From the lack of power. It can get dangerous for mages to lose to much power." I explain the door opening and revealing Archmage Seria and another mage that was in a lab coat.

"Sorry to keep you waiting. I needed to retrieve a young mage who is studying in the medical arts." Archmage Seria explains to us while I sat up and watched them carefully.

"Babe. Could you leave the room for a moment? I don't want to worry you over my injury." I tell him softly, honestly truthfully wanting him to not noticed that Faye and I had almost close to similar wounds.

"Alright. I'll step outside with the guard. It'll feel better soon." He kissed the crown of my head and left the room in a moment. Leaving the three of us.

"May I?" Archmage Seria asks me, motioning towards the cape when I nodded and slipped the cape off my shoulders and revealed my true self. She skimmed her eyes on my skin before I turned and showed them the large burn that started from my neck and went all the way down to my hip.

"The mage burned me with a fireball. I was trying to block it but it ended up doing much worse." I point out as the Archmage backed away and narrowed her eyes.

"Child, leave us for a moment. Not through the door." She says while the young mage teleported out of the room. "I don't believe you. What truly happened? You have strong powers whether you'd admit it or not, but surely if you were trying to block the attack. You could have." She a.n.a.lyzes, completely s.c.r.e.w.i.n.g up with my story as I sighed and s.h.i.+fted my hair away from my burn.

"Zavier, my mate, and I. There was a kidnapping in our pack and a pack of rogues stole the young wolf. Out of desperation. We hurried to where the pack would be and we found the child. Without thinking, I jumped into the fight while my mate grabbed the child. I told him to run but a rogue mage threw a fireball at him. I knew I didn't have enough energy to place a s.h.i.+eld so I teleported and blocked the hit. Zavier fought off the other rogues as I collected the rest of my energy to teleport the child. After that, I pa.s.sed out." I confess, telling her parts of the truth when she sighed and sat down on the bed. Her cool hands healing my burn marks.

"Sit still. They will be healed, but can easily be reopened. You'll need some rest to recover more energy." She tells me, the brief coolness disappearing within a second when she stood up. "I will return once I am notified that you've awakened. Then you both may leave." She says coldly, leaving the room within a second as Zavier walked in seconds later.

"Either you changed your appearance or this is someone else. But this is not Xenon's face." He simply states while I rolled my eyes and lean back on the bed feeling a nice relief.

"What do you mean? This is how I truly look." I simply say, twirling my fake golden lock around my finger as he shook his head.

"Yeah no." He says, collapsing on the bed beside me with a tired expression.

"You tired?" I ask him as he turned his head towards me, looking into my eyes.

"Your eyes are normally grey. Not blue." He simply points out when I huffed and turned away from him.

"Whatever. I am going to sleep, please don't bother me. I need to regain my energy." I growl, kicking the covers down from underneath me before pulling them over me.

"Alright. I'll leave you be." He chuckles, leaning over and pressing his lips to my hair. "Good night, mate." He says in a husky voice when I buried my face in the pillow, slightly embarra.s.sed but joyful he was calling me that.

Even though it wasn't true.

It was nice to think that someone thought of me in that way even if it was for an act.

Slowly, I drift off not allowing any of my thoughts to keep me awake any longer while I felt the bed dip a little more. Zavier's arm going around my waist as he cradled me.

I would have thrown him off but something was pulling me into sleep causing me to finally nod off.
