103 Looking Towards The Future

The carriage stopped and the driver spoke to Lu Wan.

"Young Master, we have arrived."

Ye Jiao opened the door and walked out. She stood quietly by the side of the carriage and wondered whether she should crouch at the front. Some n.o.bles have their servants acted as a stepping stool for them. Even though most of them were women n.o.bles, there were also some males who did this practice.

As Ye Jiao didn't really have the complete picture of how n.o.bles in this kingdom work, she was still wondering.

"Why are you daydreaming?" Lu Wan already got out of the carriage and waved his hand carelessly in front of Ye Jiao.

"Ah, I'm just thinking what I should do."

Lu Wan followed after Ye Jiao's sight and sighed. "You just have to stand by the carriage and close the door after I get out. Is that clear?"

"Yes!"

Ye Jiao hurriedly closed the door while Lu Wan stretched his body. For him, staying inside that annoying carriage was a torture as he hated to become a spectacle from Lu Family.

"You'll need to learn the rules if you don't want to have the servants watch you," Lu Wan remarked.

"I'll do that."

"Don't force yourself too hard," Lu Wan tilted his head. "I'll find a way to make my father ground me at home."

What?

While Ye Jiao was stunned at Lu Wan's remark, Mu Xin was making her way to them. She had seen the carriage from Lu Family arrive, so she could guess that Lu Wan must be coming over. After all, the carriage that Lu Su and Lu Wan used were completely different.

"Good morning, Young Master Lu Wan," Mu Xin greeted.

"Mu Xin," Lu Wan nodded politely. "Is there any problem?"

"No," Mu Xin's eyes were fixed on Ye Jiao. From the girl's complexion, she knew that Lu Wan didn't mistreat Ye Jiao at all. This made her feel glad.

"If you're going to criticize my behavior, I think it's time for you to stop. No matter what you say, I'm not going to change."

"You're as impolite as ever, Young Master Lu Wan."

The two of them looked at one another. They knew that they were just keeping up appearances as Lu Wan gave her an excuse to approach him. On the other hand, it has been known that Mu Xin was strict at rules, so she occasionally would reprimand other students if they misbehaved.

Lu Wan looked at Ye Jiao. "I'll be going to cla.s.s. You can wait here or just walk around. The servants are allowed to walk around the area."

"I understand, Young Master."

Mu Xin pa.s.sed a glance at Ye Jiao again, but she knew that it would be too eye catching if she talked to a servant. Sighing to herself, she headed to the cla.s.s.

'I'll have another chance later.'

As the bell rang, the courtyard became empty. Ye Jiao leaned on the nearby tree as she watched the other servants talk to one another. They were already familiar as they used to escort their master or miss. This was the best time for them to relax as they just have to wait for their master.

Ye Jiao was not used to talking with other people as most of them avoided her before. Looking around, she took the chance to walk to the other side of the school where there were not many people.

'The school's area is vast,' Ye Jiao thought to herself.

She carefully stepped on the gra.s.sy ground and looked over to the cla.s.srooms not far from her. From the window, she could see the students listening to their teacher. Some of them were laughing while some others played by themselves.

Seeing that, she really wished she could get in and listened to some of the teaching as she was curious about the lessons that children normally had.

"What are you doing here?"

The voice made her startled. Ye Jiao hurriedly bowed down and avoid making eye contact. "My apologies, I'm walking around without paying any attention."

The old man looked at Ye Jiao for several seconds. "Raise your head."

Ye Jiao did as he said. This allowed her to be able to see the old man's appearance. He looked quite old and ordinary, but there was a faint threatening presence around him.

The old man suddenly muttered. "Ye Xiao."

"!"

Hearing her father's name, Ye Jiao instinctively readied her stance. Even though she was still a mere Eon Energy Master rank 1, she wouldn't give herself up without any fight. Her eyes were showing dangerous glint as she was prepared to make a run should she need it.

"There's no need to tense up," the old man laughed as tears started to form. "Ye Jiao, you're truly your father's daughter. Your appearance is truly similar to him."

Ye Jiao didn't know what to reply as she didn't really have the chance to properly look at her appearance in the mirror. Since she was her father's daughter, they should look similar, no?

"I don't mean any harm. I'm just an elementary school princ.i.p.al," the old man introduced himself. "I used to teach Ye Xiao, so I'm familiar with his appearance. You don't have to worry other people will be able to recognize you as you have changed a lot from the last time I see you."

"The last time?" Ye Jiao was stunned. She didn't recall meeting the princ.i.p.al.

"I saw you from my office when you visited the school years ago," the princ.i.p.al sighed. His eyes turned moist. "It's truly a pity that you have to end up this way."

"Mr. Princ.i.p.al? I'm fine," Ye Jiao smiled rea.s.suringly. She didn't know this man, but the concern he sounded out sounded genuine for her. Probably due to the fact that she has been living while receiving malicious gazes directed at her, she has become sensitive to other people's gaze.

And this old man's gaze was filled with concern and guilt.

The princ.i.p.al sighed once again. "If only your father is still alive, I'm sure he'll be proud of you. You manage to survive and live by yourself."

Ye Jiao smiled bitterly.

She was not sure that her father would be proud that her daughter got involved in an a.s.sa.s.sin's organization. However, she didn't want to leave as it was the path she had chosen herself.

"Are you a servant? This clothes seems to be coming from the Lu Family."

"Ah yeah, I'm serving Young Master Lu Wan from Lu Family. I'm living well there," Ye Jiao explained her condition partially.

The princ.i.p.al nodded his head. The Lu Family would be a good choice as neither the Imperial Family and Wei Family would want to mess with them. Besides, Lu Wan was said to be the future of the Lu Family, so Ye Jiao's position would be safe.

"I see. It's good for you, but if you have the chance, it'll be better for you to leave this kingdom. I don't want to see you suffer the same fate as your parents," the princ.i.p.al raised his hand, intending to stroke the girl's head, but he decided against it. "The future is still unknown, so you should never lose hope, little girl."

"Yes!" Ye Jiao acknowledged it.

"Alright, take care of yourself."

After looking at the girl once more, the princ.i.p.al walked away. He hoped that he could help the girl as he had failed to protect Ye Xiao in the past. If there was a chance, he would not hesitate to help her.

This time, he didn't want to leave regret behind again.

Seeing the princ.i.p.al walking away, Ye Jiao never realized that there were more people who actually cared for her family.

'The future, right? I'll change my fate and get them back for what they have done to me.'

For a moment, Ye Jiao's eyes glinted ruthlessly. It disappeared as soon as it appeared as Ye Jiao appeared tranquil and walked around once more. She still couldn't move as she was not strong enough.

She needed time to grow.

Until she had enough power, she had to restrain her movements.
