She moved to the window and gazed at the night sky. The moon was big, round, and bright today but it made people feel lonely. There was no darkness on the surface of the moon. But what about people? The joys and sorrows of human beings were unpredictable, following no fixed pattern.

Tears welled in her eyes as she slid down against the wall. She clasped her legs and buried her head between them. She believed that she had forgotten… she wanted to forget. But why couldn't she escape that nightmare?

Life was becoming harder to live. She only more tired with each pa.s.sing day.

“Looking me for something?” Gu Yubai looked at Ouyang Yu. He knew the purpose of his visit. Ouyang Yu wouldn't meet him during his working hours otherwise.

“Oh, maybe it's a lot to ask but can't you let go of Xiao Meng?” Ouyang Yu sat down in the chair in front of his desk.

“Why?” Gu Yubai threw away the pen in his hand, stood up and smirked. 

Let her go? Impossible.

She should know the consequences of her actions. Ouyang  family had decisively claimed to sever their ties to Ouyang Jun. What now? Ouyang Jun was dead, so everything got settled? No, it was not that easy.

He had been played by her, he would never allow it the second time. Forgiving her… No, he couldn't let go.

“I know that they were at fault but many years have pa.s.sed since. Now you have your own life, and they have paid the price. Isn't that enough? The years Xiao Meng lived on her own were not good. Please take into consideration the years of our friends.h.i.+p." Ouyang Yu understood that it would not be easy to convince Gu Yubai.

No one in the entire G city dared to undermine his authority.

“A Yue, escort the guest out.” Gu Yubai dialed a number on his phone from the inside line to Qin Yue who was outside. This issue didn't need any further discussion.

“Mr. Ouyang, please,” Qin Yue came in and said to Ouyang Yu.

“I know you won't care for what I say, but I won't let you hurt Xiao Meng.” Ouyang Yu turned to leave after uttering those words. Since he couldn't persuade him, he could only try to protect her.
