Chapter 8 Part2

“Is there discomfort in your throat?” He leaned his face down to her level, the smile on his lips imitated that shared between lovers. But there was no smile in his eyes. Rather, they held bitter irony.

Lin Meng noticed it but she did not care about the irony of the situation. She reached out inside her purse. She remembered belatedly that they had thrown her phone away.

It worried her, he wouldn't be patient with her. His tolerance, she did not expect it to change in five years.

She didn't know how to explain it to him. She made hand gestures in panic. He couldn't make out her sign language. Her hands hung at her side, looking forward to his response.

Gu Yubai looked puzzled. Then he thought of the scene at Ouyang's home. Something flashed in his mind.

“You can't talk?” he asked with uncertainty.

Lin Meng nodded and confirmed his suspicion again. He could not believe it.

“How could this be?” He grabbed one of her hands.

Lin Meng lowered her eyes down to his toes, her face held a smile full of sorrow.

'Why?'

She shook her head, not wanting to think about it. But those unbearable memories reappeared in her mind. Her face paled, her body trembled as she closed her eyes and tried to expel the memories. The memories poured out like a flood, drowning her completely.

“Tell me why?” Seeing her bowed head, he grabbed her shoulders with both hands and forced her to look at him. His voice trembled.

Her eyebrows scrunched, she struggled in discomfort, and her face was devoid of blood as if she was in some unprecedented despair. The trembling of her body grew more intense, her struggle became more erratic.

Gu Yubai also noticed her strange reaction.

“What's wrong with you?” He asked her in a low voice.

Her mind was blank; she did not respond. When Gu Yubai released his hand, she fell to the floor. Her elbow slammed into the floor with a bang. She frowned in pain, yet her eyes were devoid of any light as she stared off into the distance.

“Lin Meng.” Gu Yubai kneeled down beside her. His heart aches as if it had been p.r.i.c.ked by a needle. He wanted to help her but he could do nothing apart from patting her back.

“Xiao Meng, Xiao Meng…” He called her, his voice held a trace of panic.

At this moment she seemed to be in a state of extreme panic, on high alert; he did not dare to stimulate her further.

A lot of questions arose in his heart. What happened in the past five years? Why can't she talk? Why was she like this?
