2 The Awakening

He was visiting Pyxie, a girl, he met and sort of saved when she had an accident. Unfortunately, she doesn't go to school as her parents are poor and she has to help out as much as she can if she wants to eat. Pretty awful for a young girl to be living in those conditions, well that goes to show that people aren't made equal. Therefore, for the past year, Kigen has been bringing her coffee and snacks every morning to make sure that she gets enough food inside her body, so even if the day comes when she doesn't have anything to eat, she would have had something at least some sustenance in the morning. This was not pity or him being a good guy, rather he felt like was a big brother for her.

The area where she lived was rough, before going to her apartment you had to pa.s.s through a very dodgy looking alleyway. The kind where people would often go to buy and sell drugs. It was dark, filled with junk lying everywhere with the occasional stray cat growling at you while you pa.s.sed through. Often, in the corner, you would have thugs just eyeing you and checking if you had anything valuable, pretty common to get robbed and even killed in that area.

Once at her doorstep, he knocked the door gently as if he was a stranger, but then completely contradicted his action by singing.

"Ohh Pyxie, it's mee." He called her out in a very playful manner almost like a jingle. Instantly, you could hear little feet running towards to door at a very high pace.

When the door opened, without any delay, Pyxie jumped for our everyday hug. I caught her; she wasn't that heavy for someone who was only fifteen and still wearing pink panda pajamas.

"Kigen! It's you, I missed you, big brother."

"Missed you too Pyxie, you seem very happy today, what happened?"

"It's a surprise big brother, I'll show you later." She replied whilst giving the most adorable and cutest smile ever.

She had made my day once again; however, as time wasn't on my side, I gave her the snacks and sprinted to school. On the way there, Kigen was having a flashback moment about the day he met Pyxie.

Pyxie Oruki, I remember the day I met her like it was yesterday. This all happened on the 20th August 2016, the school had just ended. During that time, I didn't actually know anyone and was a shut-in, which I still am but not to that extent. So I headed home, being alone felt like bliss because it meant that I could play games for how long I wanted. Whilst thinking about what game and strategy to use when I get home, something caught my attention.

Outside some Toyshop, in the middle of the local shopping complex which was about six minutes away from my house, some parents and their kid were creating a scene due to their infant wanting a plaything they couldn't afford.

Thinking nothing of it, I stood by staring at the TV inside the store. The news was on; "For the past few weeks, kids around the country have been going missing. The police advised everyone to be on their guard."

Suddenly, I heard a scream; it was the girl, she finally broke down and was running off by herself. Her parents didn't move nor flinch. They could have cared less about her. Naturally being worried, I set off after her to see what she was up too. She ran about ten meters, enough to get out of the complex but was completely exhausted. Being me, I didn't run after her because that would have freaked her out even more and made me look like a pedophile. Instead, I walked at a fairly high pace and kept a close eye on her.

To my surprise, coming out from the alleyway, I saw three shady looking guys slowly approaching her. They were all wearing black which I thought made them look even more obvious as they tried to fitting in and look inconspicuous. I knew something was up. In order to catch up, I started walking at a faster pace. Alas, she noticed the pursuers and made a run for it to which everyone followed. Even I, though I despise running, followed. In an attempted to scare off the guys, shouted out loud. "HEY THERE STOP!"

Me screaming did nothing, we were slowly coming up to a crossroad, the la.s.s had just begun crying and without any hesitation, crossed the road not paying attention to oncoming traffic. In the distance, about six meters from her, a car was approaching at high speed. In my mind, I thought she was going to die due to the fact that the vehicle showed no sign of stopping. As I was slowly losing hope, something truly mysterious happened.

"Kigen's left eye, which is usually black slowly turned white alongside the other one who began to glow with mild intensity."

For a split second everything stopped moving, as for my eyes, they began feeling weird. I could see this weird tunnel in front of me and then I subconsciously had two choices given to me. The first one was, to help the girl and the other was to go deeper inside something I didn't even know existed. Naturally, I picked the first option, even though I didn't know who gave me those options. After that, all I remember was me on the other side of the road with the little lady in my arms. For the three shady looking guys, they were on the floor knocked out and for the car, it was mildly dented in the middle.

Confused, I averted my eyes off the mess behind us to young girl whilst trying the piece together the puzzle about what had just happened. Once I finally came to my senses, I didn't realize that I was staring directly at her. Luckily, she had stopped crying, I got the feeling that she was happy in some way. Unconsciously, I smiled at her in hopes of making the girl feel comfortable.

"Hey, are you alright?" he asked politely with a soft calming voice.

"I... I think so... thank you, mister." She replied still in shock.

"No need to be scared my name is Kigen what's yours?"

"My name is Pyxie Oruki." She replied still frightened.

"Pyxie that's a nice name."

"What happened... the last thing I remember was that a car was going to hit me..." she asked confused yet curious.

"Frankly speaking I don't know either, all that matters is that you are safe and next time you should be more careful."

"Sorry, I promise I will be more careful sir." She replied as she slowly hugged him.

"Come on, let me walk you home."

While holding hands, we both headed for her house. I somehow felt like a big brother. On the way there, she stopped and stared at the café. It was obvious that she was hungry, so I took her inside, got her some snacks, a coffee and then left.

From that day forward, I've stopped by her house regularly with coffee and snacks. She always gives me the biggest smile when I come by her house which in turn makes my day.
