4 Chapter 4

Aldarion was very nervous. At first he thought he was not going to have any problems, but when he decided to practice archery he realized that it was very difficult. He had never done it and ten shots he only managed to hit four shots in the bullseye and they were not even close to the center.

Frustrated decided to talk to the system. "System, is there any way to improve my ability?" The system answered instantly. "The user can acquire the skill 'Archery'."

"What do I have to do to get it?" Aldarion asked excitedly. "The user must practice the skill until they get it. In fact, to improve this, you must continue doing it. "After hearing the response of the system the same emotion that flooded Aldarion vanished.

Aldarion thought that having a system would have something like a store that would allow him to cheat, as he had read in other novels.

After grumbling for a while, he resigned himself. Aldarion asked the system "System, how much time is left until the attack?" Instantly the system showed that there were only five hours left for the bandits to arrive. Aldarion thought that since he had time, he could practice archery more.

He spent an hour practicing and still did not get the skill 'Archery'. Tired and in a bad mood he decided to sleep a little. The truth is that he had not stopped all day. Aldarion had been organizing the defense all day and helping prepare it, so he had not had much time to rest. Besides, the nerves did not let him sleep either, that's why he dedicated himself to practice. Only now that sleep and fatigue invaded him could he close his eyes for a while.

That's how 4 hours went by...

...........................

Road north of Bree.

The sky was still dark, it had not yet dawned. Ronir, leader of the group of bandits, was observing the terrain before beginning the attack.

What Ronir saw was the north gate of the city. It was open and only guarded by two sentries. Ronir could be considered astute, otherwise he could not have got a group of 60 bandits to survive until now, but Ronir was very confident and believed that it was impossible for the attack to go wrong.

Ronir knew that the city had very few guards and these were very weak. So, without further delay, he ordered his men to initiate the attack.

Only a few minutes pa.s.sed since Ronir gave the order, when a bell began to ring. At the third ring of the bell Aldarion woke up and put himself on guard, he knew what it meant, the bandits were there.

Aldarion stood up and went quickly to his position. He was located on the roof of a house next to the north door. From there I could see how the bandits were coming closer and closer to the door. In turn, I also saw the guards prepare and position themselves. They were all around the fence, while the other archers were in high positions that allowed them to better target the enemy.

Every second that pa.s.sed the bandits were closer and this made Aldarion more nervous. He had never fought and was beginning to think that perhaps G.o.d had been wrong to choose him for this task. Just when the nerves were about to break, I hear Gersten talk.

"Boys do not be afraid!" At that moment Aldarion opened his eyes and noticed the guards and saw that they were also scared and nervous, this partly consoled him. "I know you're scared, but we can not let these dogs pa.s.s! If we do not stop them here, who will ?! If we do not fight them, who will defend our families ?! Remember guys, thanks to that they have come to help us we have a plan and thanks to this plan we will win, so come, if we stay together we will not fall!"

After listening to Gersten's inspiring speech, Aldarion managed to calm down. It must be mentioned that Aldarion at first did not think that a few words had much effect, but when he wanted to realize he saw that the atmosphere was changing, the guards began to see themselves with more conviction. Then he remembered the words of Aragorn in front of the Black Gate and the power they had.

I was just thinking about the day when he was in front of an army and let out an inspiring speech just as Aragorn did when the noise of the bandits arriving in the city woke him up from his thoughts.

When the bandits who were in the front row came through the door they were surprised to see the fence. They wanted to slow down, but it was too late. His companions behind kept running and pus.h.i.+ng them so the first ended up stuck in the spears of the guards.

When the bandits wanted to realize they were already surrounded by the fence and when everyone was inside Aldarion gave the signal and Gersten gave an order. Suddenly, debris and furniture began to fall from the towers by the door, blocking the bandits' retreat.

The bandits were surrounded and unable to withdraw Aldarion knew that his plan was going well, now only the ma.s.sacre of the bandits remained. The spearmen began to spear the bandits and the swordsmen were attentive to whether the latter were too close to the fence. The archers had started shooting and even they were no better than Aldarion could still hurt some bandits or even hopefully kill them.

Watching the battle unfold, Aldarion began to prepare his first arrow. He stretched his arm towards the quiver and caught an arrow. He put it on the bow, tensed the rope and looked for a target. Aldarion knew that he did not have a lot of marksmans.h.i.+p so I look for the biggest group of enemies and when I had it displayed I pointed and fired.

At that moment it seemed that time had been had, everything was moving in slow motion. The arrow shot out and approached its target. When Aldarion wanted to make sure he was successful he saw the result of his shot. The arrow had hit a bandit.
