Chapter 18 - Secret

Su Feng took Song Ren to his private office.

His office s.p.a.ce had piles of doc.u.ments on top of his desk and simple furniture throughout the room. It was simplistic, the same way hers was.

When they arrived, she asked, "So what is it that you wanted to show me?"

Su Feng grinned and approached a large painting in his office. He turned the canvas over, where a door hid behind. He entered a security code with a finger-print scan and facial recognition.

He opened the door where a ma.s.sive laboratory loomed inside. Song Ren's lips parted in shock, and something like excitement roiled in her bones.

He turned to face her with a gentle expression, and he waved his fingers, directing her to come over. She hesitated at first, but she wanted to take the chance.

Song Ren walked ahead of Su Feng inside. The lab filled with the latest biotechnology and tools. She saw doc.u.ments full of sketches, proposals, formulas, and outlines for his projects. The materials were top secret information, and she glanced at him eye-wide.

"Why did you bring me here?" she questioned, "This is your private office? I know because I have one too. You shouldn't bring anyone here."

Su Feng glanced around the room and nodded, "Perhaps. But I don't bring just anyone in here. I don't bring anyone here at all."

Song Ren narrowed her eyes. "Then why me?" she asked.

Su Feng's face became serious, "You're the future lady boss of this company, and I want you to know that what's mine is yours."

"But we aren't even married yet," she said, puzzled.

"Indeed, but as I said, what's mine is yours, and I want to prove that to you before you marry me."

He paused to say, "We will combine our resources, and together, our businesses will be an empire. No other companies can outrank our discoveries in medicine. Together, we will save lives, we will help people, and our values and integrity will remain st.u.r.dy," Su Feng finished.

It took a moment for Su Feng's words to register in her mind. Song Ren always valued morals and helping people, and to see that he too shared the same values; she could not help but smile.

Never in the last six years would she expect Su Feng to be the partner of her dreams. He had shared the same beliefs and commitment towards their work and craft. His handsome features were a bonus but she realized that they indeed made a great pairing.

"Thank you for bringing me here," she said genuinely, "This is all spectacular and detailed work."

Su Feng smiles briefly. He had issues with bringing anyone to his private s.p.a.ce. It was a place he spent restless nights in, conducting ideas and executing them. Not even any of his top employees entered. He only provided his colleagues with copies of his doc.u.ments once it crafted to perfection. But he had to show her—prove to her that he was serious about their engagement.

Song Ren gazed around the room, impressed by his work. Her heart could not help but feel warm. The revelation of his lab was a statement—he trusted her. He trusted her enough to bring her into a top-secret laboratory that she could jeopardize if she were to expose it. But she wouldn't. It seems that she found someone else she needed to protect other than her family.

They spent the entire day unpacking Song Sheng's things and putting them away. Qian Meigui and Song Sheng took several breaks in between, eating meals, sharing casual conversations, and resting.

Qian Meigui rested her body on the couch. She did not expect it to be so comfortable that it felt like a mattress. She closed her eyes and slowly, she fell asleep.

Song Sheng had just put the last of his things away in his bedroom when he went to check on Qian Meigui.

It was already late, so he wasn't surprised to see her resting. But he did not expect her to be breathing so deeply.

He racked his brain on what he should do. He tried to wake her by shaking her shoulders, but instead, she swatted his hand away and turned over into a more comfortable position.

Song Sheng chuckled to himself, and he ran a hand through his dark strands.

Qian Meigui had a very gentle expression while she slept. Her chestnut brown hair fell over her face, and Song Sheng chuckled at sight. He reached out to tuck the strands of her hair behind her ear.

Her hair felt so soft that it almost compelled him to caress it. Song Sheng then grabbed a blanket to place over her. He bent down and saw her chest rise and fall, and he felt as if her skin kept calling him, but he stepped away abruptly at the thought.

He decided to call his sister.

Song Ren picked up the phone immediately with a weak voice. "h.e.l.lo?" she said on the other line.

"Ren, Xiao Mei won't come home tonight. She was helping unpack, and she fell asleep on the sofa. So I'm going to let her sleep here."

"All right," she yawned. "I'm not home yet, but I'll let Jinyi know, so she doesn't worry."

"Hm," he said and ended the call.

He placed his phone in his pocket after he took his pack of cigarettes out. He lit of them as he walked to the balcony and exhaled a deep drag, smoke filling the air.

He turned, leaning onto the balcony rails as he smoked and watched a sleeping Qian Meigui.

Song Sheng recalled many times when they were younger, where she would always chase after him. She was so innocent that he always felt compelled to play with her. She often loved roleplaying so she would dress up as a princess, whereas he acted like a knight.

When they got older, they stopped playing. Song Sheng dedicated his time towards his studies and spent most of his time in his room. But Qian Meigui always came in with snacks, and some of the time she would join him by reading quietly or working on her homework. Initially, it was annoying, but he had grown accustomed to it. And then he always antic.i.p.ated the moments where they would silently sit in each other's presence.

And in the end, she fell asleep on the sofa like this, and like every time, he brought her to bed.

Song Sheng extinguished his cigarette when he finished and placed it on the ashtray. He approached Qian Meigui and lifted her. Song Sheng carried her to his room and put her under the covers. He then went under the covers next to her. It would be just as if they were younger again, whenever she had nightmares, and he had to calm her down and fall asleep with her.

He glanced at her, his heart beating rapidly. His chest rose and fell quickly. He then charged out of the room, trying to calm his thundering chest. He laid down on the couch and attempted to sleep.
