Chapter 17 - Forgiveness

Qian Meigui felt that her relations.h.i.+p with Song Sheng was beyond repair, but she was glad that Song Ren forgave him. It was what their family needed.

Song Sheng stood and glanced at her, "I'll be leaving now," he said.

"What are you doing today?" she asked.

"I'm going back to the apartment to unpack what arrived today from England."

Indeed, she remembered he went to England to exchange some business. But she did not know that he stayed there for some time as he travelled from country to country across Europe.

"Do you need any help?" she asked.

"No, it's all right," he declined.

"I have nothing to do today," she insisted.

Song Sheng exhaled deeply, "All right," he said, feeling defeated. Qian Meigui smiled to herself and followed him out of the door. They headed towards the gate, and she hopped into his Maybach.

Song Sheng turned on the radio with some light music playing, and they drove silently towards his apartment complex. When they arrived, it was a towering building with transparent windows and balconies.

Qian Meigui followed him into the building where they met with security. The security let them pa.s.s when he presented his residence card. The receptionist greeted him by name, "Young Master Sheng."

He informed security that Qian Meigui was his guest as visitors were typically not allowed to go in without the company of a resident.

Many wealthy, high profiled people and influencers lived in the same complex. Qian Meigui stepped into the elevator next to him when he scanned his card and pressed the b.u.t.ton to the last floor.

When Qian Meigui and Song Sheng stepped out of the elevator, she glanced around the ma.s.sive opened s.p.a.ce, expecting to see halls for rooms, but the entire floor was his. She was accustomed to viewing grand houses, but to own an entire floor of an apartment complex was something she'd never seen before.

It had two levels, a bar, a kitchen and several rooms on both levels — most of the complex filled with unpackaged boxes around a few pieces of expensive furniture.

Qian Meigui was not sure how Song Sheng had owned so many things.

Song Sheng noticed her reaction and said, "Most of my stuff came from my old apartment, while other things came from England. I have not been around much to do some unpacking."

With everything that clouded his mind, Song Sheng kept busy with work. For days he contemplated leaving the country again, but when he saw Qian Meigui cry, he decided that he should stay. And when Song Ren forgave him, he felt that things were beginning to get better.

He has a new apartment, a new job, and his relations.h.i.+p with his family was steady, but some part of him still felt unsettled and doubted whether he made the right choice.

"Where can I put my purse and jacket?" she asked.

"I'll hang it for you," he said.

Song Sheng reached out and grabbed her things to place them in the closest by the elevator door.

After he hung her things, he saw her sit down on his Italian leather couch, and she gathered her hair, revealing the white nape of her neck, tying all of her strands into a ponytail.

She began to pick up boxes and organize them. "What are you doing?" Song Sheng asked. "I'm moving them around and placing them where they belong," she responded.

Qian Meigui picked up a box labelled, "Kitchen," and headed towards the kitchen where she gently left it. "Once we put these boxes away, we can open and organize them into the appropriate s.p.a.ce," she said with a smile.

Song Sheng went to his bedroom on the second floor to change into casual clothing. He walked down the staircase, and Qian Meigui almost stumbled when she saw him.

She tightened the grip of the box she lifted and stole glances at Song Sheng who wore a tight long-sleeved black s.h.i.+rt and grey sweatpants.

She averted her gaze, trying to calm the pounding in her chest. What was this? She shook the thoughts from her head and continued to unpackage the items.

Su Feng took Song Ren to his main office building of Sun Group. It felt strange. Not once did she ever visit Sun Group, and she never imagined she would. Song Ren wore a mask and a pair of sungla.s.ses with business attire as she walked in with him.

"Can you remind me why you look like that?" he asked.

"I don't want anyone to recognize me," she responded.

"No one even knows what you look like," he began, "there are pictures of you on the internet, but they're from your teenage years."

"How do you know that? Did you search for me?" she questioned.

Su Feng panicked and said, "It's my job to make sure your privacy is secured; we are going to be married someday."

Song Ren narrowed her eyes as if to question him. At first, Su Feng that she did not believe him, but instead, she caught up to his pace.

Although her family often kept a low profile, some people could recognize her from auctions, parties, and events that she attended. And their engagement was not officially announced yet. Therefore, she can't risk anyone knowing who she was.

Xia Lanfen—Su Feng's secretary—was shocked to see her boss bring a woman to his office. From what she gathered, the woman appeared to be high-profile as she wore the latest Burberry spring collection. She wore a white tight-fitted dress and a check-patterned long coat. Her long black hair swayed behind her like a banner, but she hid her face well.

It was unlikely for Su Feng to bring a woman to his private works.p.a.ce. Xia Lanfen leaned in, trying to peer in, and find out who she was.
