"I have to pick him out of a lineup."
Kerry's smile never wavered, but she squeezed Caitlin's hand.
There was concern in her eyes.
"Be careful, Cait."
"I'm with him."
She nodded at Graham, who returned her smile with a quizzical raise of
his brow.
"What could happen to me?"
Kerry's look of concern melted into a wide smile.
For Caitlin's sake she down played the possible dangerous repercussions
of identifying a killer.
"Lots of things, I hope. And all good."
She leaned ov and whispered into Caitlin's ear, "If you need any pointers, just call."
Caitlin laughed.
"I'll keep that in mind."
Leaving t shelter of her counter, she came around to Graham.
"I' ready."
She only hoped that she could live up to those words.
"What was that all about?"
He nodded toward Kerry they walked out of the shop.
_ "Girl talk."
He appeared satisfied with that answer, b because it tickled her, she
elaborated.
"Kerry thinks I might need a little advice on certain fine points, like
how to make love with you."
"You don't need any advice."
He circled the hood and g in on the driver's side.
Pleasure curled through her.
"Is that a compliment?"
44 Just an observation.
" He glanced in the rearview mirror as he backed the sedan out of the
tight spot." I'm cop." Graham threw the car into Forward." That's what do.Observe.He was uncomfortable talking about it, about them, s she left the topic alone.
Her thoughts returned to what's was about to face.
Caitlin's fingertips felt clammy and she folded them into her palms.
"So."
Her voice sounded tinny and strained to her ears. "Assuming you have the
right man, what happens once identify him?"
They eased through a light a beat before it turned "We arraign him and the case goes down on the calendar trial."
It sounded so simple.
One, two, three and she was safe. Not quite.
Caitlin couldn't shake the fear that nibbled at "Can he get out on bail?"
Graham knew what she was thinking-that the ma would come after her again.
"Not for murder."
That meant that she would finally be safe.
It also mea other things, she thought, glancing at Graham.
Far les pleasing things.
Caitlin blew out a breath, then turned to look at Graham.
"That means that I won't need a bodyguard anymore."
"No."
Graham kept his eyes on the road.
No.
The way he said it, it was almost as if he had said goodbye, as well.
She didn't want that to happen.
There was still so much ground to regain.
Her search for something to hang on to opened another door.
"And I won't be being stalked."
Graham glanced at her.
Instantly he knew what was going on in her mind.
She was thinking about what they had talked about earlier.
About why he couldn't agree to a marriage of convenience with her.
"No," he agreed.
He knew what she was inferring.
There was a touch of reluctance in his voice, but she chalked it up to
Gray's pride.
Caitlin nestled back in her seat.
Maybe this time fate had dealt them both a winning hand.
"Worth thinking about."
He didn't want to think about it, but the court date was breathing down
his neck.
He had to do something and do it quickly.
In a way, it sounded like the perfect solution.
Everything she had said was true.
They did have a history together and it would look far less suspicious
