66. And G.o.d came unto Balaam, and said, _What men are these with thee?_ Numbers xxii. 9.

68. Thus saith the Lord, _What iniquity have your fathers found in me_, that they have gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain? Jeremiah ii. 5.

69. Then saith the Lord unto Moses, Behold I will rain bread from heaven for you, and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, _that I may prove them whether they will walk in my law or no_.

75. Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, all my words that I shall speak unto thee, _receive into thine heart_, and hear with thine ears.

76. They shall walk after the Lord; he shall _roar like a lion_: when he shall roar, then the children shall tremble from the west. Hosea xi. 10.

MUNIFICENCE.

He that loveth not, knoweth not G.o.d; for G.o.d is love. 1. John iv. 8.

The Lord is good, a strong-hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him. Naham i. 7.

All the works of the Lord are good; and he will give every needful thing in due season. Eccles. x.x.xix. 83.

80. For the Lord thy G.o.d is _a consuming fire_, even a jealous G.o.d.

Deut. iv. 24.

81. G.o.d is jealous and the Lord _revengeth_; the Lord revengeth and is _furious_; the Lord will take _vengeance_ on his adversaries; and he _reserveth wrath_ for his enemies. Nahum i. 2..

82. It is a _fearful thing_ to fall into the hands of the living G.o.d.

83. The Lord is a _man of war_; the Lord is his name. Exodus xv. 3.

84. The Lord shall go forth as a _mighty man_; he shall stir up jealousy like _a man of war_; he shall cry, yea roar; he shall prevail against his enemies. Isaiah xl. 11. 13.

85. The Lord hath opened his _armory_, and hath brought forth the _weapons of his indignation_; for this is the work of the Lord G.o.d of hosts, in the land of the Chaldeans. Jeremiah 1. 25.

And he said unto them, Thus saith the Lord G.o.d of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp, _and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbor_. And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about _three thousand men_. Exodus x.x.xii. 27, 28.

87. For a fire is kindled in my anger, and shall burn unto the _lowest h.e.l.l_ and shall consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundation of the mountains. I will heap _mischiefs_ upon them, I will spend mine arrows upon them. They shall be burnt with anger, and devoured with burning heat? and with bitter destruction. I will also send the teeth of beasts upon them, with the poison of serpents of the dust. The sword without, and terror within, shall destroy both the _young man_ and the _virgin_, the _suckling_ also, with the _man of gray hairs_, Pent, x.x.xii. 22 to 25.

88. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them; for I the Lord thy G.o.d am a _jealous G.o.d; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generation_ of them that hate me. Exodus xx. 5.

89. The Lord hath made all things for himself: yea, _even the wicked for the day of evil_. Prov. xvi. 4.

90. I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace _and create evil_: I the Lord do all these things, Isaiah xiv. 7.

91. _And I will harden Pharaoh's heart_ and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt. But Pharaoh _shall not hearken unto you_, that _I may lay my hand upon Egypt_, and bring forth mine _armies_ and my people the children of Israel, out of the land of-Egypt, by great judgments. Exodus vii. 3, 4.

92. And it came to pa.s.s that at midnight _the Lord smote all the first-born of the land of Egypt_, from the first-born of Pharaoh that sat on his throne, unto the first-born of the captive that was in the dungeon and all the first-born of cattle. Exodus xii. 29.

93. And my _wrath_ shall wax hot, and _I will kill you with the sword_; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless. Exodus xxii. 24.

94. And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, _"Vex_ the Midianites and _smite_ them." Numb. xxv. 17.

95. And the Lord's _anger_ was kindled the same time, and he sware saying, "Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt from twenty years old and upwards, shall see the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they have not _wholly_ followed me."

96. Now go, and smite Amalek, _and utterly destroy all that they have_, and spare them not; but slay both _man and woman, infant and suckling_, ox and sheep, camel and a.s.s. 1. Samuel xv. 3.

97. Wherefore they spake to the king of a.s.syria, saying, The nations which thou hast removed, and placed in the cities of Samaria, know not the manner of the G.o.d of the land; therefore he hath sent lions among them, and behold, _they slay them_, because they know not the manner of the G.o.d of the land. 2nd Kings xvii. 26.

98. For the _indignation_ of the Lord is upon all nations, and his _fury_ upon all their armies; he hath _utterly destroyed_ them, he hath delivered them to the slaughter. Isaiah x.x.xiv. 2.

99. Then the angel of the Lord went forth and smote in the camp of the a.s.syrians _one hundred and fourscore and five thousand_; and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses. Isaiah x.x.xvii. 36.

100. Therefore, thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, _I will not hearken unto them_. Jer. xi. 11.

101. _The fierce anger_ of the Lord shall not return until he have done it, and until he have performed the _intents of his heart_: in the latter days ye shall consider it. Jeremiah x.x.x. 24.

102. For thus saith the Lord, the G.o.d of Israel, concerning the houses of this city, and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which are thrown down by the mounts, and by the sword, "They come to fight with the Chaldeans, but it is to fill them with the dead bodies of men, whom _I have slain in mine anger and in my fury_, and for all whose wickedness I have hid my face from this city." Jer. x.x.xii. 4; 5.

103. And he hath _violently_ taken away his tabernacle as if it were of a garden; he hath destroyed his places of the a.s.sembly; the Lord hath caused the solemn feasts and sabbaths to be forgotten in Zion, and hath despised _in the indignation of his anger_ the king and the _priest_.
