12 Demons Part Iii

Then a horn was heard in the air. Wait, a horn. Dragon blood and demons alike froze and looked where the noise of the horn came from. There were at least six hundred of them. Riding those horses were soldiers covered head to toe in a medium armour. Whatever it was though, it was glowing in a pale blue light. That means that it is runic armour. As they got closer I saw two banners. One was the dukes banner the same as in the city. The other was similar to it but the dragon was black and the background was red. The dragon was holding a spear and a sword in each of its hands. On the banner was a metal black dragon.

After seeing all of that, I realised who they were. They were the Dragon Knights. The soldiers I saw when I first got to the city. The most elite troops in the duchy, they are probably the most elite in the surrounding kingdoms. So seeing them here was a very big surprise and relief for me. The others around me are properly relieved as well. It meant that we should not die anymore, hopefully. The demons seeing what was coming, charged at the knights instead of us.

We all let out a breath that none of us knew that we had been holding in. "We actually are going to be able to survive." I knelt down onto the ground. Then dropping my weapon, just layed down. I am exhausted, I thought to myself. Glancing around the other eight people were doing the same thing.

Cras.h.!.+ We heard the sound of the knights and demons reaching each other. Unlike our fight with screams filing the air, this one had a lot more roaring which I guess is the demons' noise they make for basically anything. Then it was completely quiet except for the sound of some horses. Then I heard the noise of the horses getting closer to us. Looking up there were three knights coming towards us.

Seeing this I got up and ushered everyone else to stand up as well. The knight's stopped in front of us. "Where are your officers?" He had taken off his helmet and was looking down at us with a gentle smile on his face. As the acting or I guess chosen leader I decided to be the spokesperson.

"None of us have any idea sir knight." I was respectful and didn't look him in the eye as we were told to do when speaking to someone of a higher rank in unit and normal rank.

He looked more confused at that point. "What unit are you from?" I looked at him confused. Does he not know who we are, I thought to myself. "We don't have a unit name sir, we are a training unit I guess." Hearing what I said his face changed to one of anger.

"Where is the rest of your unit?" Seeing his reaction I thought I had done something wrong but still replied to his question.

"They are about a ten minutes march that way sir. But you won't find anything there. They are all….hic..dead." Hearing what I said and how we looked he seemed to realise something.

"I am sorry. I didn't mean to ...."

"You don't have to be sorry sir, in fact we should be thanking you. If it was not for you we would have all been killed by the demons." Seeing our looks of respect he smiled again.

"We will help you bury your comrades then we will escort you to the camp where it is safe. Questions will probably be asked as well then."

As we walked to the battle site I began to get acquainted with the other survivors. Orodreath a big man with long black hair, there was also Thengel opposite to Orodreath completely, he was skinny with blond hair. Heruwine was somewhere in the middle of the two but his hair was blood red. Gram was an average build with black hair, Oswald was like Gram and as we were speaking it turned out that they were twins. Then there was Belegorn, Swain, Guthbrand and Halstein. They all were surprisingly brothers. There were very few differences between them except age and eye colour. They all had different coloured eyes. Which was a bit odd if you asked me.

Once we had arrived at the site of the battlefield I swore I could hear one of the knights mutter under his breath that, "These were brave souls to fight demons and not route at the first site of them. They would have made fine soldiers."

It took us nearly the rest of the day to gather up the dead and bury them all. We didn't really have anything to mark the graves with, so we put the banner of each battalion in the center of the burial site. Taking a piece of armour of a soldier one of the knights carved onto eat. Here lies the brave souls of the Dragon blood. May they find peace in their deaths. May their glory go with them into the next life.

After that to get back to the camp quickly we were told to ride double with some of the knights. I was choses to ride with the knight who I had spoken to earlier. "So Adoh, your name is that right?" I nodded my head. "Which great clan are you from?" He said that while whispering so the others around wouldn't be able to hear.

"I'm not sir knight." I couldn't see his face but I thought that it would have been one of surprise. Surprising me though he didn't carry on with the conversation. We rode in a few minutes of silence after that.

"So I overheard that you had killed two demons on your own. Is that true?"

"Yes it is at least for one, but for the other it was more of a team effort I just landed the killing blow."We were silent for another few minutes. #

"You wouldn't have had your bloodline awakening yet than ever, I guess. That makes what you did and the fact that you all survived more remarkable. Even if they were all only lesser demons." I thought to myself I guess the bloodline awakening thing is like the mana awakening thing Lar's told me about. But lesser demon I have no idea what that is.

"Ummm sir knight, what do you mean by lesser demon?"

He let out a slight chuckle. "I forget you wouldn't have learned basic demon cla.s.sification yet. Basically a lesser demon is the weakest of all demons, then it is a greater demon, then a superior demon. Above that you don't have the permission to know yet. But to give you an idea a superior demon would need a company of dragon knights to kill. That would be at a tremendous loss of life at that.

"Ah we are here."
