“What?!?” (Kaori & Kei)

Kaori and I exclaimed loudly together, after s.h.i.+ori’s surprising statement.

Huh? What do you mean menstrual cramps? What are those?

Umm… it hurts when it’s time for you to menstruate? Me as well? Really?

“Umm?” (Kaori)

“Umm what?” (Kei)

Kaori is looking from me to her mom alternately.

“If… No? When was your previous period?” (s.h.i.+ori)

No, I’ve never menstruated before. I’ve only been a girl for about a month……….. about a month. So, is that really what this is?

Hang on a second here. It's not the time to panic just yet. Just relax and calm down.

True, I’ve been a girl for almost a month now. Girls’ menstrual periods are also fixed. It really has been about a month, hasn’t it?

Well, that does make sense and the time frame matches.

…it does. Even so, I’m not absolutely sure that this is my period, because there is still a possibility of this being a cold as well.

For the moment, let’s not panic. Anyway, I need to answer her.

“Uh... just about a month or so.” (Kei)

“What? Oh, is that right?” (Kaori)

Kaori asks me seriously while looking surprised, because her eyes are the size of dinner plates.

Why are you acting so surprised? If you think about it, you know it just as well as I do. Just how long has it been since I became a girl?

“Well, then maybe it is that time of the month for her. Does Kei know how to prepare for it in advance?” (s.h.i.+ori)

Excuse me? What? Prepare in advance? Just what does that mean? Wait a minute… This unexpected thing might be my menstrual period?

Is that a ‘period’? In short, blood will come out of me, right?

…and that’s all I know about it!

When that single very important fact hit me, I looked at Kaori silently asking for her help.

Kaori was upset about this as well, so she just continued to look from s.h.i.+ori to me, until I nudged her.

“What is it?” (Kaori)

You know what I want!

Or really I should say, I want to know!

I was barely able to stop myself from shouting it out at Kaori, who had muttered the question with a puzzled expression.

I might need to calm down some.

Well, since we are talking about blood coming out, I think it might be best to learn how to prepare for this, but I have no idea how to do so.

I can ask Kaori about it later. I’m sure we will manage.

“Yes, it’s better to be prepared ahead of time.” (Kei)

I have no idea what or how to prepare, but there are people that can tell me what to do.

Regardless of whether it’s just a few or a large amount of them. It will be more than zero.

“Is that right?” (Kaori)

I’m confused, I had thought I had given a good answer, but I can’t tell if Kaori is impressed or making fun of me.

Oh, wait, what does she have to be impressed by?

d.a.m.n it! Today has been strangely frustrating for some odd reason. I glare at Kaori and her expression slowly changes into one of anxiousness.

“Well, if you don’t feel well, you should go to bed and rest.” (s.h.i.+ori)

“Thank you for the meal.” (Kaori)

I never noticed Kaori’s panicky ‘Thank you for the meal’ as she started to help s.h.i.+ori to clear the empty dishes from the table.

Kaori then gets up and begins to clear away her dishes in a hurry.

Quite often, we have had to escape from the table to Kaori’s room. I feel as if I am seeing a completely new side of her. It’s sort of refres.h.i.+ng.

Maybe she’s simply still confused by all of this.

“Thank you for the meal.” (Kei)

I said, because I can't eat any more, as I stood and started to clean up my dishes.

“Leave those; just head back to the room and rest!” (Kaori)

Kaori tells me with a kind expression. It seems as if she plans to clean up my dishes as well.

Then I will take advantage of your kind offer.

“Okay, thank you very much.” (Kei)

I said and head back to Kaori’s room.

While I was relaxing in Kaori’s room, I hear the ‘thump, thump’ of someone running up the stairs.

The sound soon reaches just outside of the room and the door swings open, revealing Kaori standing there.

“Hey, are you alright!?” (Kaori)

I feel like s.h.i.+t and I’m probably bleeding, yet you are the one all worked up?

I thought to myself while lying down, but at least I’m comparatively calm now.

I know it’s perfectly natural because I’m a girl. Okay, I’m not totally sure that this is what it is, but at the very least it’s not an abnormal occurrence.

“What?” (Kei)

So, there's nothing wrong in that respect.

“Huh? No… well… I thought you were in trouble.” (Kaori)

Kaori said with a confused expression. Well, to a certain extent she’s right. The cause for how bad I feel seems to be clear, but how to fix the situation is another issue altogether.

“Oh, yes. I was going to ask you what to do.” (Kei)

“Oh, right...” (Kaori)

Kaori says with a disappointed expression, after I lightly reply to her.

“So, please tell me how to deal with this.” (Kei)

(TN: Who else thinks Kei might just be an ‘S’?)

“Hey, what?! What if someone comes to check on you? It’s not as if this is normal.” (Kaori)

Kaori starts to say with a worried expression, but her voice trails off into nothingness before she finishes.

[Haa] “Okay. I understand.” (Kaori)

She sighed heavily and said, then she stepped past me and opened her closet. She then pulled something from the back of the closet…

…and she immediately becomes frozen in place, while blus.h.i.+ng furiously.
