Vampire Lord

The Vampire Lord looked at s.h.i.+a and snorted.

"So the b.i.t.c.h hasn't understood her place, and came running after me."

"Shut up! I swear, I will kill you with my own hands!"

"Your own father was unable to do it. And yet you, with your inferior abilities, are going to kill me?"

Vampires were intelligent enough to talk in human speech.

Their magic and vitality were also high, making them powerful monsters.

Then the Vampire Lord looked to me.

"However, you brought a human with you. I commend you for that."

"What are you saying!"

"A dog will not succ.u.mb to my charm… But a human will."

"You…what…"

s.h.i.+a's face went pale. She looked worriedly in my direction.

I decided to relieve her.

"Don't worry. The charms of a mere Vampire Lord won't work on me."

"Buwahahaha! So you wish to bluff. Humans are most entertaining."

The Vampire Lord laughed good-humoredly.

His earlier irritation had likely been due to all the goblins that we killed.

And so he felt better now that he thought he would gain a new subordinate.

"I see."

I nodded. The Vampire Lord scowled.

"You see what?"

"It's obvious. You made it seem that you had few goblins here in order to lure in Adventurers."

"Hehe. Perhaps you aren't a fool after all. That is correct."

"Pretty smart. I commend you for that."

If he could turn the Adventurers into vampires, he would be able to operate on a larger scale.

Even if they were just F Rank Adventurers, they would be much more effective than goblins.

"Mister Locke, you must leave at once!"

"If you want to run, do it alone."

"There would be no point in that. If he cast Charm on you…"

"I told you, it won't work."

But s.h.i.+a did not believe me.

"It was my fault…"

Among beastkin, wolf types were immune to a Vampire's charm.

They could also not have their blood sucked.

If a Vampire were to try it, they would take damage.

And so beastkin that were wolves would often hunt Vampires.

And so s.h.i.+a was immune to Charm.

Perhaps that was why she had forgotten that humans were weak to it.

That seemed extremely careless on her part.

This would have been a big tragedy if it were not me that was here. I hoped she understood that.

The Vampire Lord shouted loudly.

"As if I would allow you to escape!"

And then its eyes began to s.h.i.+ne. It was casting Charm on me.

I looked him straight in the eyes. Our eyes locked for a while.

The Vampire Lord was handsome, but I didn't feel nervous at all.

"Maybe if you weren't a man…"

I muttered, and the Vampire Lord became frantic.

"Why…why doesn't it work!"

"Well, it's because my resistance against mental ailments is very high."

"No mere human should be able to resist a Vampire Lord…"

"Maybe you're not a real Vampire Lord then."

I challenged.

When fighting against an intelligent monster, it was best to make them lose their cool.

It would give you a good advantage in the coming fight.

"You just think that you're a Vampire Lord, when you're actually just a Lesser Vampire…"

I said quietly. The Vampire Lord gave me a murderous glare.

"You will regret mocking me!"

The Vampire Lord had decided to kill me instead.

It was worth provoking him like this, since it meant that he wouldn't attack s.h.i.+a.

The Vampire Lord started to come towards me all at once.

He had the agility expected of a high ranking monster.

Still, he wasn't a threat to me. I dodged his attacks and kicked him in the jaw.

"Ggg!"

The Vampire Lord's fangs went flying.

For vampire's, their fangs were their most powerful weapon and their pride.

"Ba.s.sTAAARD!"

He howled and then jumped on me.

He was nearly blind with rage, and his attacks were simplistic. His high intelligence was not being utilized at all.

I easily evaded his attacks and slammed my fist into his pretty face.

"BDDGHH!"

He croaked strangely as he wobbled, swayed and finally fell onto his knees.

"You b.a.s.t.a.r.d…"

His face was caved in, and all kinds of things were running down his skin.

Still, his will to fight was as strong as ever.

He charged at me again, and this time I grabbed him by the throat with my right hand.

And then I activated Drain Touch.

"GUAAAAHHH!"

The Vampire Lord let out a deafening cry.

He may have been good at draining out someone else's life force, but he didn't seem to like having it done to him.

The Vampire Lord swung his sword in an attempt to cut off my arm.

There was no way that such an attack would hit me. I let go of him and backed away.

His sword cut through the empty air.

"You move pretty fast for a Lesser Vampire."

I remember to mock him. It would be troublesome if his attention moved to s.h.i.+a.

"Who are you…"

"Locke. An F Rank Adventurer."

"You're lying!"

The incensed Vampire Lord attacked me again, but I dodged all of them.

And then, I systematically punched him repeatedly in his vitals.

It seemed that I had gained some levels during my 10 years of fighting the devils.

My arms were also stronger.

I mutter as we fight.

"…Perhaps it's because of the mana."

Every time I killed a monster, the mana would be absorbed into my body and slowly make me stronger.

That's why I grew stronger with every monster that I killed.

The mana was especially thick in that place between our dimensions.

I must have absorbed the mana in the area along with the mana from the monsters.

I had used Drain Touch and the Drain Sword while I was there.

So it had not only been the life force, but mana that was entering me.

I wasn't completely sure of any of this, but I was certain that I had suddenly become stronger.

"Maybe that's why I look younger…"

I continued to mutter to myself while punching the Vampire Lord.

s.h.i.+a must have thought that she would get in the way, because she was waiting in the back.

The battered and bruised Vampire Lord flew to the back to create some distance.

He moaned with the cave walls behind him.

"You… Don't ever forget this. From now on, you will never know what a peaceful night is…"

And then he started to transform into hundreds of bats.

This was why Vampire Lords were dangerous.

There was no way that I could allow him to escape. If I did, the neighboring villages would suffer.

I could no longer pretend to be a Warrior.

And so I prepared to use my magic.

"I will not let you escape!"

s.h.i.+a immediately dashed forward.

The Devil King Sword hacked into the Vampire Lord as he tried to transform.

"GUWAGGHHH!"

His scream echoed in the chamber.

The flesh that was cut, along with the parts that had turned into bats, all turned into ash.

It was like wet ash that had been compressed and hardened. It was black.

"Woah, that is amazing."

The Devil King Sword was amazing. It wasn't only sharp.

It took your magic and life force, and even your mana away.

That was the effect that it had.

"It was only a sharp blade when I used it against the goblins."

Maybe I hadn't noticed, because the mana that was absorbed was so small.

"AGHHHH!!"

"GHHHAAAAA!"

s.h.i.+a continued to hack and slash at him.

Before we knew it, the Vampire Lord's entire body was turned into ash.
