Chapter 37 Part 1

After lunch, Xiang Daying and Ren Danyan left after walking around campus

for a while. They brought some braised beef and eggs for Xiang Nuan, prepared

by her grandmother. The food was neatly packaged in a big, heavy bundle.

Lin Chuyan helped Xiang Nuan carry the bundle back to her dorm. She checked

the bundle and found three containers of beef and one big container of eggs. She

kept one box of beef and some eggs for herself and asked Lin Chuyan to bring

the rest back with him.

“You keep them for yourself.” He didn't want to take it back.

“I can't eat all of them.”

“Share with your roommates.”

“My roommates can't eat that much either.”

What Xiang Nuan didn't tell him was that, out of the four girls in her room, only

Min Lili was on good term with her. The other two roommates always kept their

distance with her. They were cordial but never did anything together with her.

The reason was a bit corny.

Those two roommates liked the same boy in their department and everyone in

the dorm knew about it. It was originally just an awkward situation between the

two. But in short time afterwards, that boy confessed to Xiang Nuan.

Xiang Nuan embarra.s.sedly turned him down.

However, those two girls became good friends after the confession episode and

distanced themselves from Xiang Nuan.

Though they didn't resent Xiang Nuan, they just didn't feel comfortable around her.

Xiang Nuan let Lin Chuyan take most of the food back, then returned to her room

with Min Lili. Lin Chuyan watched them walk away and then handed the food to

Zheng Dongkai.

Zheng Dongkai took the bundle and said: “Xiang Nuan is such a nice person.”

Lin Chuyan mentally agreed.

Lin Chuyan was preoccupied with something else and didn't have the time to talk

to anyone else.

Ren Danyan and Xiang Daying drove onto the freeway. Xiang Daying wasn't a

good driver, often getting a ticket or scratching the car. Nowadays, Ren Dayan

drove most of the time.

Ren Danyan asked her husband as she drove: “What do you think?”

It was hard for Xiang Daying to feel good about Lin Chuyan since he might be the

one who would take his baby girl away. For him, it was very easy to pick some fault

with Lin Chuyan. He said: “What's the use of good looks? Who knows, maybe it's

just skin deep.”

Ren Danyan was amused: “Are you talking about yourself?”

Xiang Daying: = =

Xiang Daying added: “He's too quiet, a dull person.”

“I feel it's good to be quiet, it's more prudent that way. Besides, he's well spoken,

not dull at all. He's probably just shy.”

Xiang Daying continued to try to come up with something else to complain about

Lin Chuyan.

Ren Danyan laughed: “That's enough. We shouldn't worry too much about her.

Xiang Nuan wasn't too happy that we came by to check on her today…...Hm, but

don't you feel that our Xiang Nuan is somewhat different than before?”

Xiang Daying nodded: “She seems more outgoing and talks more than before.”

“Yeah, besides, in Nuannuan's team-- --is that how they called it?”

“Yes, they called it a team.”

“She seems to be their leader.” Ren Danyan laughed and seemed quite proud.

“Did you notice it? All the others seemed to listen to her. So our daughter is a

leader type of person.”

Xiang Daying also laughed. He looked out the window at the pa.s.sing hills: “Those

kids were probably just fooling around.”

Then Ren Danyan thought something else and grew more serious: “However, I

feel that Nuannuan's acting a little too bossy. Look at the way she was talking to

Lin Chuyan, do you think she's always bullying him?”

Xiang Daying hesitated. He didn't want to admit that his daughter was capable of

bullying anybody, but at the same time, he found that…...Nuannuan bullying

Lin Chuyan…...was a rather pleasant thought……

Ren Danyan quickly glanced at him and mistook his silence for worry about their

daughter. She comforted him: “Stop worrying about her. Lin Chuyan's got such high

marks on the entrance exam, he must be a good kid. Whether Nuannuan's going to

date him or not is her own business, let's not interfere with it.”
