2 Marooned

'What's the big idea!? Seriously, who wakes a sleeping maiden using a bucket of w...!?' She began, but she then froze the moment she noticed her surrounding.

The vast, snowy forest, that she had once called home, had been replaced by a scene seemingly straight out of an add for a tropical resort. An endless blue ocean existed to her front, the apparent source of the water which had alarmed her, vivid blue skies above, a dense, tropical looking forest to her rear, and fine white sandy beach below and to her sides. And Crystal could see all of them, at the same time.

Not only that, she could somehow see her own body as well. That is, if it could still be called a body.

It was small, crystal clear, crystal ball, that sat half buried in the sand, a slight pink hue existing at its centre, and she knew, instinctively, that it was herself that she was looking at. She was even able to faintly feel the warm tropical wind which brushed against the orb.

'Wait... So what exactly am I?' She thought as she stared at her new body, 'that pink box's owner, 'Scree,' or something like that... She said she would choose what I reincarnated as, didn't she?'

Crystal then continued to stare, mesmerized by the orb's beauty, unsure of both, what she was, and why her newfound form felt so natural to her.

Then, a few moment later, thanks to yet another large wave was.h.i.+ng over her, she finally snapped out of her trance, an idea popping into her head as she did so.

'I wonder if I could use that to find out what I am?' She pondered, referring to one of the most common tropes among all other-world reincarnation stories she had ever experienced, 'I suppose it's worth a try?'

She took a deep breath in antic.i.p.ation, or she would have if she had lungs at the moment, and then spoke using the voice only she could hear '...status.'

Crystal mentally braced herself for failure as she spoke. The reason for this? If she failed here she would undoubtedly have to figure things out through trial and error, which sounded like a total pain to Crystal.

Thankfully however, the cla.s.sic trope did not disappoint her, and a blue box appeared less than one second later.

'Wow, it really-...!' She began the moment the box materialized, although a bit of her enthusiasm quickly turned to confusion upon actually reading the box it question.

'...Appeared?' She said, finis.h.i.+ng her sentence in a rather quizzical sounding manner.

Though satisfied by the box's existence in general, Crystal still felt it looked quite underwhelming when compared to what she had been imagining it would look like.

It was during this moment of disappointment that she spotted it, the small writing at the boxes bottom.

'Index menu?,' she mumbled absentmindedly upon seeing the two emphasized words, accidentally summoning said menu into existence as she did so.

'Eh!?' she yelped, startled as the much, much, larger box, suddenly blocked a large portion of her vision without any prior warning.

However, far from being mad... Crystal was delighted.

'It's glorious!' she yelled, her gaze firmly fixed on the words 'Dungeon Core' which was apparently her race.

'And it's a real menu this time, like those once seen in the RPG games of old!' She mused, the pink hue at her cores centre giving off a vivid pink glow as she did so.

That excitement however, came to a quick end a moment later, when a box she didn't accidentally summon, suddenly appeared, vanis.h.i.+ng all others as it did so.

This one gave off a vibe importance and finality to her, and Crystal's instincts screamed at her to take this one more seriously.

She immediately settled down and gave the message her full attention.

Time remaining: 58 seconds!]

'Oh dear...' thought Crystal upon seeing the timer, the glow at her centre quickly going pale as she did so.

'Well... at least that reaper loli is gone,' she finally concluded in an attempt to calm herself. Crystal believed in those words with every fibre of her being.
