Chapter 593

Back stage several moments later, Talis found himself being checked over by his two favorite ladies . Kyera was scanning his aura from head to toe, while Raina bombarded him with questions .

"How are you feeling? Does it hurt anywhere? Mommy can fix it if it hurts, right Mommy?" Raina asked glancing expectantly at Kyera who nodded . Talis was at a loss and looked to Clovis for help . However Clovis's expression as well as Kan's was very expressive .

'Who told you to go getting yourself hurt and worrying our ladies?' Their expressions seemed to demand and he realized there would be no help there . However that didn't mean he was on his own . There were certain parties who were not necessarily concerned with his welfare but would he a welcome ally .

She would much rather stay with her guard than go change but… she looked at her mother and father . It only took a moment to make her decision before turning pleading eyes up at Talis .

"Please be here when I get back . " She said softly, her voice uncertain and insecure . Talis knelt down to her level .

"I am still here for a reason, Princess . I am relatively sure that reason is you . Now go, I will be your faithful companion when you return . " Talis replied and Raina smiled das.h.i.+ng off with Daxin to get out of the Autumn dress .

"You will not be able to get too far out of site for a while, Talis . She was worried sick . " Clovis commented, his arms folded over his chest as he watched his pride and joy skip away .

"Why did you not wait backstage? That boy could have danced and you rested . " Kyera asked honestly concerned at Talis' breathing . He was still a little ratted . With that, his expression darkened .

"The boy is dead . I saw him lying outside behind a crate as I came to watch her performance . I recognized him from her practice and I decided to improvise . I'm a guard, my job is to protect her, even if it means getting a little winded to protect her from flying fruit . " Clovis reminded her as he took the seat Kan offered him . Kyera frowned looking at Clovis .

"That is the second attempt at sabotage now . First the musicians, now the boy… Clovis…" Kyera looked at him, unease in the pit of her stomach .

"I know dear . I will go speak to Empress Vivian . "  He rea.s.sured her . "What about the body?" He added .

"I took care of it already . He isn't dead, just mostly dead . I left him with HalfEye . " Kenrick replied as he joined the group, wiping his hands on a kerchief .

"Thank you, Brother . " Kyera smiled at him and Kendrick returned her smile with one of his own . By G.o.ds she was too perfect . His perfect little sister .

The sound of Keen's drum performance was already beating like ward's heartbeat on the air . It was powerful but made the listeners uneasy . it seemed to deep into their very souls, the meaning behind each careful booming noise .

They say music can summon a mood or weave a moment in time molding it to a shape and a purpose . This sound seemed to call on the battle nature of every man, and woman in the crowd . The drums demanded action, but action without purpose . The hairs on the back of Kyera's neck stood on end . The sounds of war came rus.h.i.+ng to her mind, a war she had not been part of .

Fire, the smell of smoke and blood . Screams, metal clas.h.i.+ng, armor breaking, and the cries and grunts of men fight for their lives . Swish and tangling of bows and arrows, splatters of blood on the earth . A body at her feet, small and covered in crimson, a arrow standing like a flag from her gut . Bile rose in Kyera's throat as she broke from whatever this was… memory? Couldn't be… a Premonition she refused to even consider it . Her heart ached, and her stomach rolled . She would never let that happen . Â
