Chapter 99 - Patron Or Not Pt 5

Draig had been busy for the past few days and had even ignored the couriers who had come to deliver messages from the Lords of the other clans. He was focused on seeing the extents of his new found success with the storage rune.

He had drawn several of the runes on the inside of his satchel in order to keep his things organized and found it to be rather safe as the rune from before had yet to disintegrate which had allowed him the confidence to store the ink and Paper slips into the satchel though there was a certain capacity to which the rune could hold thus calling for the addition of more runes to the inside of the satchel before he added some to the outside in order to keep the precious satchel from being destroyed somehow.

However it was at the end of that week that Draig was alerted to the voice of Lord Kori outside the cottage and he sounded rather urgent which was further proven by his personal appearance.

"Draig, I require your presence in the in the main room of the estate" spoke Lord Kori with some nervousness clear in his voice as he waited for the Vampire to show himself.

Luckily Draig had indeed shown himself though he looked confused as to why this person who carried himself with so much pride would seem so worried.

"Come quickly, I don't have time to explain" spoke Lord Kori with haste.

Draig followed suit though he was still curious he was sure he would have his answer once they arrived at the Main room.

It didn't take before the duo arrived and Draig indeed had his answer when he saw a man residing in the seat of Lord Kori as if it was only natural for him to sit there.

"Your Highness, I have brought the Charm Master as requested" bowed Lord Kori causing Draig to inspect the man sitting at the head of the room.

"This child" asked the Emperor looking at Draig doubtfully.

"That is correct, he is gifted with an incredible skill the likes of which I have never seen before" stated Lord Kori.

"Why does he not bow before his Emperor" asked the Emperor with a raised brow.

"He is but a child" started Lord Kori but Draig chose this moment to speak.

"Bow?" questioned Draig with his own raised brow looking towards the man as if he was a lunatic.

Draig suddenly through out a talisman causing a barrier to erect around him stopping a blade that had been thrown at him.

Draig looked to an older youth at the side and snorted at his shocked look.

"Cute" stated Draig as he picked up the knife.

"Forgive my son, he takes disrespect very seriously" smiled the Emperor

"Then we have something in common" smiled Draig, as a talisman flew across the room locking the youth into a fetal position.

"You should be more careful where you drop your knives but I'll forgive you since I have the same problem with my charms" finished Draig causing the room to look at the youth locked in place as he growled and tried to stand.

"A splendid talent indeed" chuckled the Emperor in delight seeing the effect of the seemingly innocent talismans.

Draig said nothing in response, waiting to hear what the man wanted.

"Tell me, how do you perform this amazing little feat" asked the Emperor

"Born with it" stated Draig causing the Emperor to seemingly deflate at the answer.

"Very well, then why do you sit here squandering your talent among these Clans" asked the Emperor.

"Simple really, they have something I require and I have something they want. A simple trade with no strings attached" answered Draig snorting as he saw the youth continue to struggle against the talisman's hold.

"Oh? What is it that you require then, surely it wouldn't be difficult to acquire it with my position" asked the Emperor.

"The teaching's of a Deva naturally, it would be too difficult to gain them elsewhere" stated Draig as if it was obvious to which it should have been.

"I see, you are aware what it would mean to learn the teaching's of the Clans right" asked the Emperor thinking the information had been kept from the Feratu.

"I am aware but I merely required the basics, the rest I would do myself" stated Draig causing the Emperor to be surprised at the answer as few people would attempt to forge their own path as compared to those who wished to learn an established style but he didn't realize he was talking to a real conqueror.

"Then what if I told you that I could help you achieve this little goal of yours and even give you a letter of recommendation to enter the Deva Academy" asked the Emperor causing Draig to smile.

"Such an interesting offer, I wonder what you would want in return for so much effort on your part" spoke Draig.

'You really think I'm so gullible human, this is a child's body but a full mind fool' thought Draig as he looked to the Emperor.

"I merely ask that you pledge yourself to the service to my Imperial family" answered the Emperor with a smile.

"Sounds like I'm on the losing end of this arrangement" stated Draig causing the Emperor to look at the Feratu in surprise.

"How is serving my family a loss" asked the Emperor though you could hear a bit of grit in his voice.

"Besides the obvious lack of freedom to do as I please? I would be forced to serve every member of your family and to put it simply if the rest of them are like your son there then I would be better off with the current arrangement" answered Draig causing the Emperor to look at his son who had indeed acted rashly, it was unbecoming of one who had imperial blood in their veins.

"Indeed, then what if I alter this agreement. Pledge yourself to me and me alone, upon my death you would reclaim your freedom and hold no attachment to my family unless you wish to" negotiated the Emperor.

Draig thought about this, it was a much more attractive offer than the previous one and wouldn't be so hard to deal with as the man in front of him seemed rather advanced in years as it was. On top of this, it was dangerous to be an Emperor. So many enemies some of which were one's own family, it didn't seem like a terrible bargain.

"Only you?" asked Draig confirming the offer.

"Only me" nodded the Emperor.

"I will need this in writing" stated Draig causing the Emperor's eyes to light up.

"Then you agree" asked the Emperor

"Only after I have read over this contract and find it to be to your exact words identifying you, yourself as the sole person as the one I serve" answered Draig causing the Emperor to smile before calling one of his men to begin writing up the contract.
