28 A Good Star

She nestled closer to him, keeping her eyes closed. She didn't want to get up. If she could stay like this for the rest of the morning she would be quite happy. She knew though that Kaldrek would never agree to sleep in for long.

Kaldrek's arms suddenly tightened around her, and his breath softly fluttered her hair. Her heart gave a loud thump.

Peeling back a little she looked into his face. His eyes were closed and he was breathing rhythmically. Still asleep. It was surprising how tight his arms could be when he was unconscious. Not that she minded. It gave her a sense of security and an illusion of love.

She examined her husband's slumbering face. His dark eyelashes were in direct contrast to his pale skin, while his sharp nose accented the contours of his handsome face. While some might consider his ears a flaw, Zylvia loved looking at them, sure they were a little odd but then so was he. Her eyes lingered on his lips, she really wanted to taste them. However she was not brave enough to risk waking him up. There was no way she would have been able to explain such a scene. At least not without embarra.s.sing herself.

Zylvia nestled back down, reclosing her eyes. Listening to his steady heartbeat put her into a half-doze. One of these days she would get the courage to tell him how she felt. But not today.

After a few more minutes pa.s.sed, Kaldrek moved, sitting up and running a hand through his hair as he looked down at her sleepily. Noticing that she was awake he smiled at her, "Morning, Zylv." His melodious voice made her heart beat faster.

"Morning," She murmured, sitting up and scooting away. She hopped off the bed. "Did you sleep well?"

Kaldrek smiled softly, "Very well."

"Good. You seemed quite tired last night," She opened her closet and pulled out one of her gowns. Quickly she decked behind the screen and began dressing.

Kaldrek was engaged in his meditation thingy when she came out. He looked so serious that she couldn't help but smile.

As he finished, she tackled him from behind, flinging her arms around his neck, "Rraaw!"

"Wh" He turned, looking at her surprised, so that their noses almost touched. The look on his face was priceless.

She fell back laughing, releasing him, "Totally worth it."

He reached over and ruffled her hair, "Alright, you've had your fun. Be good." He stood up and went to get changed.

Zylvia grinned. It was rather fun messing with Kaldrek and keeping him on his toes. She should do it more often. Though she supposed she should also be careful not to irritate him. After all she did want him to like her.

She sat down and picked up her brush. Before she got very far with brus.h.i.+ng her hair though it was s.n.a.t.c.hed out of her hands. Startled she craned her head to look behind her at Kaldrek. It was startling how quickly he had gotten dressed.

"Umm...can I have my brush back please?"

"Nope," Kaldrek frowned at her, "Let me brush your hair, okay." As he started brus.h.i.+ng her hair Zylvia felt a small smile lift her mouth.

She felt a tug on her scalp, "Ouch, Kaldrek be a little more gentle, would you."

"Sorry." His serious sounding voice was next to her ear which made her heartbeat speed up quite a bit.

After her hair was brushed, she ran out of their room, happily running to the dining hall. Kaldrek followed her, albeit a lot slower. By the time he had gotten there she had filled up two plates, one of which she put in front of him. He let out a sigh, but ate the food she had gotten him.

She snuck glances at him while they were eating. He had a bit of a frown on his face as he focused on his plate. She wondered what was causing him to frown. After they were finished, she quickly left to find her queen.

Fayre was already in her sowing room. She looked incredibly happy and was humming joyfully as she worked. When she saw her best friend she beamed.

"Zylvia! Come talk with me!" She seemed excited about something, and looked about ready to fly out of her seat.

Laughing, Zylvia sat next to her, "Yes? Did something happen?"

"Yes!" The young woman nodded emphatically.

"Alright, what happened?" Zylvia leaned forward.

"I'm pregnant!" Fayre was smiling so wide it took up most of her face. At first Zylvia was shocked, but as soon as it registered she started squealing and congratulating her friend. "And yes, you can be nanny."

"Yes!" If Zylvia couldn't have children of her own than helping raise Fayre's would be the next best thing. Though if she got the chance to be a mother herself she would still jump at the chance.
