Chapter 56: Indefensible

“What the f.u.c.k do you think you're doing, Yan Li? Beating a fellow disciple for no reason? Now go get him!” A voice called out as a bunch of indoor disciples quickly closed in on Yan Li before Lin Pou emerged out of the crowd and helped Li Zhe up.

“Are you okay, s.h.i.+di Li?” He asked.

“I'm fine.” Li Zhe shook his head, and then shot a dirty glare in Yan Li's direction, “What was that slap for?”

“You know exactly what it was for!” Yan Li replied in a cold tone. He was not one of those heartless guys, so even if he knew clearly that they two were onto something here in the palace, as long as they did not cross the line, Yan Li would just turn a blind eye to whatever stupid stunt they were pulling.

Yet, obviously, he had underestimated them, for they should be evil enough to come up with something this despicable at such a young age. Had he not been able to dodge the Jade Weapon in time, he would have been a dead body by now.

If there was one thing that he had learned from his past life, it would be that no mercy should be granted to your enemy; but, with that being said, Li Zhe and Li Fenghuang were still family to him, so all he could do was give them a warning instead of killing them like what he would do to others.

Being slapped in front of the crowd, Li Zhe felt that he had never been this embarra.s.sed in his whole life, “What do you talking about,” he barked, eyes burning with fury, “I have no idea what you are talking about! You know what, Yan Li, that's enough, I'm done!”

Li Zhe knew that Yan Li had lied what happened on the stage to them, but as long as he kept his mouth shut, Yan Li would not go too far on this thing, since there was no evidence saying that they were the ones who sent Tang Yuan here to kill Yan Li.

At first, Li Fenghuang was caught off guard by Yan Li's aggressiveness, but now, hearing Li Zhe denying their connection with Tang Yuan, she suddenly realized that Yan Li had no proof to tie them to the incidence and immediately put on a weeping face, “I'm afraid there's been some misunderstanding, s.h.i.+xiong Yan. Because I really don't know what we have done to deserve this!”

Li Fenghuang had already been an adorable looking princess in herself, and now with addition of the award-winning performance, she looked even more like a damsel in distress, which successfully had other disciples stare at Yan Li angrily, and someone even questioned as to why Yan Li would do something like this to Li Zhe and Li Fenghuang.

Winning the crowd over, Li Zhe could not help but let slip a faint smirk, “You know what, Yan Li, violence against your fellow disciples is strictly banned in Dahuang Palace. So if you don't tell us exactly why you slap me, I'm going to report this to the management and let them deal with you!”

Yan Li was not surprised at all that these two would play innocent and try to turn the situation against him, so he replied, voice deep and eyes sweeping across their faces, “Do you really want to know why?”

“Yeah, s.h.i.+xiong Yan,” something vicious sparked off in Li Fenghuang's eyes, “I mean, if you don't tell us why, even if we could let this thing slide, others won't be so willing to let you off the hook that easily!”

“That's right! Yan Li, you have to tell us why!”

“Apologize! Apologize to s.h.i.+di Li and s.h.i.+mei Li!”

Listening to the crowd chanting, Yan Li just sneered, “Really? Do you want me to apologize to you?”

“Duh! You have to!” Li Zhe a.s.serted, as if certain that Yan Li would eventually give in.

Sighing, Yan Li began, “I'm afraid that you have forgotten that there's another rule in Dahuang Palace saying that whoever attempts to kill or send others to kill another disciple will be deprived of his skills and expelled from the palace!”

“Why are telling me this? I want your apology, not this! And are you implying that I had sent somebody to kill you?” Li Zhe snorted.

Li Fenghuang, on the other hand, felt as if something ominous was brewing and could not help but worry, “Big Brother has always been the smartest of all, I mean, what if he did have proof!”

“Uncle Wu!”

Ignoring Li Zhe and Li Fenghuang, Yan Li called out as Wu Zhongmou showed up with armless Tang Yuan and Wei Ming, the guy who jumped him on the Stage earlier.

Li Zhe and Li Fenghuang both took in a sharp a breath at the sight of those two.

“Tell me, Wei Ming, why would you ambush me earlier?” Looking at Wei Ming, Yan Li asked.

“I…I!” Wei Ming sputtered, but finally managed to form a coherent sentence, “s.h.i.+di Yan, I was told by someone to do so!”

Li Zhe, face as pale as a sheet of white paper after Wei Ming finished speaking, darted a malicious glare at the latter.

“Then who is that somebody?” Yan Li pressured.

“It's Prince Zhe! He sent me a message saying that if I could manage to hurt you or something, he'd give me an entry-level artifact as a reward!”

“Bulls! You're lying!” Li Zhe yelled, “How dare you say something like that! Throwing shades on me? Kill that b.a.s.t.a.r.d, Helan Zhi!

Teleporting himself in front of Wei Ming, Helan Zhi lifted his hand and slammed it toward Wei Ming's head.

But before it could reach Wei Ming, a palm got in the way and stopped Helan Zhi's attack.

Wu Zhongmou scolded, “How bold of you to attack a disciple inside Dahuang Palace! You're going to get yourself killed!”

Three shadows popped up and turned out to be three enforcers, who then quickly trapped Helan Zhi in a circle.

Xue Zhan and others showed up as well, yanking their swords out and pointing them at the disciples surrounding Yan Li, “Let s.h.i.+xiong Yan go!”

Those people were not dumb enough to get themselves in trouble, so they all obliged and backed off.

“Are you okay, s.h.i.+xiong Yan?” Xue Zhan asked.

“Don't worry, I'm fine.” Shaking his head, Yan Li replied.

Wei Ming, surviving a close call, scrambled to fish a slip of paper out and sputtered, “Here, s.h.i.+xiong Yan, this is what Li Zhe had his people send me!”

Reading the note, Yan Li found it perfectly corroborating what Wei Ming said earlier.

Then he turned to Tang Yuan and smiled, “s.h.i.+xiong Tang, I don't think there's any bad blood between us. So why would you want to kill me with the Jade Weapon back on the stage?”

“I'm so sorry, s.h.i.+di Yan! Li Zhe gave me the Jade Weapon and told me to kill you! I'm sorry!” Lowering his head, Tang Yuan admitted.

“No, no! That's not true! You are all lying! I didn't do anything!” Li Zhe, face distorted, fl.u.s.tered.

Yan Li just snapped, sporting a faint smirk, “Save it, Li Zhe! All proofs are pointing against you! And according to the rules here, you should be deprived of all your skills and expelled from Dahuang Palace!”

Li Zhe finally cracked up and knelt in front of Yan Li, begging and crying, “I'm sorry, I'm sorry, Big Brother! Please, forgive me! I won't do it again!”

“Wait, what? Big Brother?”

The disciples surrounding them, including Xue Zhan, all looked confused hearing Li Zhe's words, but some were quick to wrap their heads around one possible explanation that they two might be related, which was to say that Yan Li was some kind of prince as well!

Looking down at Li Zhe, Yan Li shook his head and sighed, “I've warned you about this, Li Zhe! But you wouldn't listen to me! I mean, even if I could forgive you, the Palace won't be so willing to cut you some slack!”

Lin Pou, who had been watching and listening all along this time, turned a ghostly pale as he realized that Yan Li was the prince of Dayun Empire, “What is he going to do with me after I tried to kill him so many times.”
