Chapter 5: The Entrance Test

Proofreader: Prof Zhu Yuan

The young man in purple was at 14, the same age as Yan Li. His head slightly upturned, his mouth somewhat expectant, he looked around the people, and stayed focused on Yan Li as if he was saying that it was you that did not give me the face.

"Pop!"

Xiao Feng's wrist shook and threw a silver metal beside Yan Li's feet. "I want this courtyard, and this is for the rent." he said with sarcasm.

Wu Zhongmou's face turned blue and he was about to take action, but prevented by Yan Li's expression in his eyes.

Yan Li took a look at this silver medal and made a judgment of his own. He slowly looked up and looked at the face of Xiao Feng, asking in calm, "Are you Xiao Feng?"

"Exactly." Xiao Feng raised his head like an aggressive c.o.c.kerel.

"Are you from the Xiao Family in the South?" Yan Li went on asking.

"Now that you know the details, why not give up the courtyard, the Xiao Family is not a small family that you can offend. " Xiao Feng looked more complacent.

Just then, a young man in black went out; it was the one who had been drunk with Wu Zhongmou before, he stared at Wu with hatred in his eyes. He immediately said, "Childe, the old slave had humiliated me before; he also laughed at you between the lines. It is obvious that he did not take you seriously, I think, we'd better teach him a good lesson."

"That makes sense!"

Xiao Feng nodded like a model, and then raised his finger to Wu Zhongmou, "You, slap yourself twenty times, and I will not kill you!"

Yan Li burst into laughter, shaking his head. He guessed that Xiao Feng was not under others' instigation; otherwise he would not act stupidly like this to ask Uncle Wu to slap himself in the face.

"Uncle Wu, throw them out, please."

Glancing at Xiao Feng and his group of people, Yan said in a low voice and turned back to the courtyard, with maid Ling Er following him. Yan thought that a small potato in the Xiao Family was not worth more words, and he should have his arrogance as a royal member.

Yan Li's words were light, but all experts in martial arts were sensible and experienced at the scene. Hearing of Yan's words, Xiao Feng immediately went up in the air, saying, "a.s.shole, do you know who I am? Dare you..."

"Whoos.h.!.+"

A phantom flashed by, and Wu Zhongmou disappeared in a second. Xiao Feng's voice suddenly stopped, and he was startled staring at Wu who seized his neck, "Hey... what do you want to do?"

His Highness asked me to throw you out of here.

Wu Zhongmou smiled, lifted his palm and Xiao Feng's body was thrown up, across a perfect parabola, slowly fell out to somewhere three zhang (a unit of length (= 3 1/3 meters) away.

Warriors accompanying Xiao Feng turned pale. Two of them chased quickly toward Xiao Feng; the other four people burst out of active momentum toward Wu.

"f.u.c.k off!"

Wu Zhongmou sneered, reached over and brushed his hand.

The four experts of the Yuan realm coming towards him felt a sense of overwhelming power to dive.

"Bang bang bang bang!"

Four people flew up like straw and fell three zhangs away. The rest who had just reached the Lianqi realm dared not to take action, and the young man in black, had already been stunned, paused, and said nothing.

"Why not get out! Don't you want me to do it?"

Wu Zhongmou's eyes were quite sharp. Looking over the rest of the people, he shouted.

Warriors from the Xiao Family had fled as if they were absolved.

"Please think twice before you say it. Our rival was supposed to be an expert in the Xuan realm."

The four experts of the Yuan realm climbed up from the earth, and one of the four reminded.

"What? Expert for the Xuan realm?"

Xiao Feng seemed frightened and said, "Hurry up and get me out of here. !"

The Tian Huang Land is graded.

Ordinary people who could not have access to practice skills would only reach the top level of Lianqi, and those with outstanding qualifications might be able to study in individual small families or sects and were likely to break the Yuan realm.

Once breaking through the Yuan realm, the social status and sense of ident.i.ty would be improved correspondingly. Generally, the head of some small families and sects would reach the Yuan realm.

And warriors of the Xuan realm were seen as the top among the masters and respected by the world. Some of the heads of the middle-cla.s.s families might be able to reach the Xuan realm.

The administrative system of the Yun Empire can be divided into four levels, the intermediate level, the provincial, level, the city level, and the county level.

In a land advocating martial arts, one had to have corresponding skills if he wanted to be a general or an official. Otherwise, he would not be qualified.

And there were many experts of martial arts in the royal Li family of the Yun Empire Li. The emperor was said to be on top of the masters.

Xiao Feng was just a dandy disciple, but also not a fool. If one could hire a master of the Xuan realm as a householder, he must be a Mr. Big who could not be made a fool on.

Therefore he escaped and forgot his revenge.

"Ouch, isn't this Xiao Feng, Mr. Xiao? You seem embarra.s.sed?"

Hearing a sound of banter, Xiao Feng looked up, and saw a young man in white samurai clothes two zhangs away, with his hands folded in front of his chest. His hair was black and tied with a purple ribbon randomly.

At this time, he smiled and looked at their group of people in banter.

Xiao Feng narrowed his eyes to see this person clearly, "Lin Jingyun, is that you? You also partic.i.p.ate in the test?"

"What's up? Why can't I come?"

Lin Jingyun glanced at Xiao Feng's dirty clothes, and he was curious about the fact that Xiao Feng would tolerate others without a word, for the Xiao Family were very bossy in the South area, and they even didn't respect the head of the county.

"You, Lin Jingyun, I will teach you a lesson later. Let's go!" Xiao Feng stared at Lin Jingyun mercilessly, and left with a group of his men.

"What's wrong?"

Lin could not help but shout, "It is strange that this guy is so different today. If it had been like before, he would have…"

Lin shook his head, having a look at the inn Yan Li lived, and strolled away.

A few days went by in a flash.

It would be time for the test. The number of young people gathering in Luoxia town had reached a new high of 30 thousand.

The ma.s.sive flow of people went straight to the martial arts square in Dahuang's land.

Yan Li was among the people. He had Uncle Wu accompanying him only, and the rest of others stayed in the town.

Everyone was eager and excited, even though they knew clearly that at most one-tenth could pa.s.s the test. However, they were scrambling for it.

An hour later.

Yan Li and Wu came to the gate of the square; Yan Li looked back at Wu, and Wu stopped. And then Yan Li stepped into the square.

Being the top one in the sect of the Yun Empire, Da Huang Palace's square for exercises was big enough to hold 100 thousand of people.

The floor of the square was made of hard granite, and there was a round table of two zhangs in the center of the square.

Most of the partic.i.p.ants were below 16, and most of them were in their 13s or 14s. The youngest was ten while the oldest was 16,  for people older than 16 were not allowed to take part in this test.

Teenagers of this age were self-confident and seldom gave in; thus they took the people around as their compet.i.tors.That's why few of them communicated with each other.

Near the square, some young men with beautiful steel swords were standing and discussing the partic.i.p.ants for this test, and these young men were the out-door disciples of the Dahuang Palace.

In the Da Huang Palace, the hierarchy was clear, and the rules stipulated that the out-door disciples should be in black. One would be punished if he broke the laws, while the in-door disciples should be in white, elite-disciple disciples in purple and the core disciples could dress as they like.

In the waiting, time slowly pa.s.sed. Some young people gradually showed impatience, Yan Li was in a blue samurai today, which seemed very quiet. Although he was only 14 years old, he was already 1.75 meters tall. His age could only be judged by his tender face.

Living for three generations, his ages would be more than 100. And waiting for two hours was nothing serious for him. He kept calm and closed his eyes under the sun.

"What's going on? No one comes for this test. It was too hot today, and it's beyond my limitations."

A young boy in a cloth of good quality was unsatisfied and shouted. Meanwhile, he unbuckled and sat down on the floor.

Seeing this, many of the other candidates gradually sat down, and some started to talk.

A while later, two hours had pa.s.sed, and it was at noon. The sun was hot, and the young people waiting in the square turned to be impatient. Some of them started shouting, and some even walked to the shade for a rest.

The out-door disciples discussed before scorned.

Another hour had pa.s.sed. At least half young girls were too tired, so they sat, lay or ran to the shade for a rest.

"Whoos.h.!.+"

A figure flashed by, and suddenly there was a person in purple standing on the platform in the middle of the square.

"Oh, it is an elite disciple!" a knowledgeable young man shouted surprisingly.

"Now listen to me, those who do not maintain standing still were out and could leave the square."

As soon as these words came out, the young girls who had not kept standing turned annoyed, regretful, and not resigned to this result. At this moment, all the people came to understand that the test had started since the very beginning as they entered the square and they didn't realize it.

Those who maintained standing could not help but secretly be satisfied with their choice to stand still.

"Why? Why do you select them and let us go?"

"Idiot!" some whispered.

"Fool!" some scorned.

Sure enough, the young man in purple on the stage looked at the picky young man. "Why? It was just because I was the examiner for this entrance exam!"

Experiencing the others' sharp eyes, the tall and robust young man felt cold. Although he was in the hot sun, he felt as if he was falling into the ice cellar.
