Chapter 39: The Grotesque

The injured King Kong Ape let out an infuriated growl, going completely on a rampage, and glared at Yan Li with its blood-red eyes.

Then, it came barreling down towards Yan Li, snapping and destroying almost every single tree that was standing in its way, which absolutely threw Yan Li off balance.

But soon it came to him that this was exactly how the ape got its name: It would get into a state of complete madness when it was extremely angry and would consequently become more powerful. So Yan Li knew more than anything that it would not be a smart move to go head-on against it and the only possible solution was to hide and run.

The ape got even more violent out of frustration for not being able to catch Yan Li, so instead of snapping the trees with its arms, he just flat-out plunged itself right into whatever was in front of it, smas.h.i.+ng that thing into pieces.

Stunned, Yan Li quickly spun on his heels and ran as fast as he could, while the p.i.s.sed off ape followed relentlessly behind, howling and growling.

Before the disciples of Aohan Palace could even blink, they two had already disappeared into the distance.

The one who had been sitting cross-legged on the ground to treat his wounds jumped to his feet, looking slightly better than before, and said to others, “You guys stay here and I'll go after them!”

This guy was Luo Tianhan, a talented indoor disciple of Aohan Palace, who was still at Shenyuan realm but could almost pa.s.s for a Poyuan realm pract.i.tioner now.

This time, as a captain, he took seven junior disciples into the Dahuang woods to practice and had never expected to b.u.mp into the King Kong Ape. Worse still, not knowing how dangerous the ape was, he got pretty banged up when the creature decided to give him a punch.

Seeing all those snapped and destroyed trees along the way, Luo Tianhan could not help but cringe at the scene.

A few miles away, Yan Li, looking not a bit disturbed by the approaching ape behind him, suddenly stopped running and turned around to chop the Wushuang Sword at the King Kong Ape.

A blinding glow exploded off of the sword and etched a gaping gash on the ape's chest.

The ape roared as it spit out a yellow glow, which came howling towards Yan Li like a burning meteor.

Just when the glow was about to reach Yan Li, he vanished right away into the thin air and was nowhere to be seen then.

The King Kong ape stared at the s.p.a.ce in front of it with a puzzled expression, for it could not quite comprehend what just happened.

Furious, it again lashed its anger out on the trees surrounding it.

Yan Li huffed out a long sigh inside the Mixed Yuan s.p.a.ce. This tag game had already cost him a lot of Zhen vigor, and if was not for the Mixed Yuan s.p.a.ce, he would be in some serious trouble now.

Looking at the reflection of the raging ape in the mirror, Yan Li cursed silently before exiting the Mixed Yuan s.p.a.ce.

As the Zhen vigor was infused into the Wushuang Sword, a black-and-white glow flashed across the sword, which then flew towards the King Kong Ape at lightning speed.

The Zhen vigor enhanced sword became even sharper and buried almost half of its length into the previous wound on the creature's body.

“Gurrrr!” The King Kong Ape barked indignantly.

Not daring to waste a second, Yan Li immediately yanked his Wushuang Sword out while moving several meters away from the ape as fast as he could.

The ape, turning around abruptly, tried to jump him but tripped up and fell to the ground.

The Zhen vigor was highly damaging in itself already, not to mention that it went deep into the creature's body, so one of the ape's hind legs was practically useless now.

However, Yan Li was thrown off guard almost right away as he saw the ape prop itself up on all fours and leap towards him like a cannonball traveling at crazy velocities.

Without thinking twice, Yan Li went straight into the Mixed Yuan s.p.a.ce.

The King Kong Ape didn't stop until it had crashed into five thick trees because of that horrifying momentum.

Yan Li again walked out of the Mixed Yuan s.p.a.ce, and then, before the ape could even turn around, he quickly summoned the Blood vigor and pulled off the Divine Cloud Sword Skill to strike.

He had already used up the Zhen vigor inside him in that last strike, while the thunder-element vigor could not be much of a help in this situation, so he could only bet his hope on the Blood vigor now.

An eerie blood-red glow shrouded the Wushuang Sword as Yan Li felt something violent surging and swelling inside him the moment he activated the Blood vigor.

“Go to h.e.l.l!”

A flash of red swept across his eyes as he teleported himself behind the King Kong Ape in a spilt second and drove the Wushuang Sword into its other hind leg in a bone-crunching manner.

The familiar sucking noise sounded off again, but this time, it was the Wushuang Sword that was devouring the ape's blood.

Then, the next thing he knew, an immense surge of Blood energy came flooding into his body through that winding path, just like before.

Now, the ape was wailing out of both shock and fear, for it felt its death pending closer and closer.

Yan Li, on the other hand, pulsing with throbbing energies, had never felt this good before.

“No! I can't get lost in this thing!” Yan Li shouted in his head, yanking the Wushuang Sword out of the creature, and tumbled a few steps back to catch his breath.

The blood vigor had already retreated to the sea of vigor under his control, but only to become twice as powerful as it was before.

Directing his eyes at the King Kong Ape, Yan Li watched in awe as the color of its golden fur gradually faded away, as if it were withering, “How creepy! The Blood vigor can absorb energies from other living beings.”

Turning this thought over in his head, Yan Li again sprung up and charged towards the ape, who was motionless as repeated swings of the sword rained down on its head.

The creature's skull was completely cracked open, revealing a fist-sized yellow crystal that was s.h.i.+ning brightly—the fourth-level creature's core.

Yan Li flicked it into his hand using the tip of the Wushuang Sword, thinking, “There must be more Mixed Yuan elements in here.”

Just as he finished his thoughts, a white figure closed in from roughly ten meters away and turned out to be Luo Tianhan of Aohan Palace.

Looking at the dead King Kong Ape, his expression stalled for a second but quickly changed into pure astonishment, “Hey, my name is Luo Tianhan and I'm an indoor disciple from Aohan Palace. Do you mind telling me which clan you are from?”

Retracting his sword, Yan Li just smiled politely, “Nice to meet you, Brother Luo! I' m Yan Li.”

Something strange blinked in his eyes, but Luo Tianhan still managed to reply in a grateful tone, “You too, Brother Yan! Thank you for saving our lives this time!”

“It's nothing, I just happened to be there. And now that the ape is dead and you guys are safe, I should get going then.”

Yan Li did not really want to have anything to do with Aohan Palace, so he just offered him a bow and then headed to the other direction before disappearing into the woods.

“What a weirdo!” Luo Tianhan snorted, glancing at the King Kong Ape's body, whose flesh and blood was extremely precious, but Yan Li didn't seem to care at all.

Since he didn't want this, then they'd be happy to take over.

But, actually, it was not the case. Yan Li just simply did not want to use the Mixed Yuan s.p.a.ce in front of others; otherwise, he would be willing to add another one to his collection of dead creatures.

Luo Tianhan blew a long whistle and soon drew his fellow disciples here.

“Did that guy just kill the ape, s.h.i.+xiong Luo?” Surprised, Ao Xuefei asked curiously.

Luo Tianhan nodded, sighing, “Yeah! I mean, he is only at Ningyuan realm, but could kill a fourth-level creature that even some of Poyuan realm pract.i.tioners couldn't handle, which is impressive! An absolute talent from some mysterious clan!”

“Where is he now?” She continued to ask.

“Gone!”

“What? He's gone? How rude!” Ao Xuefei scoffed, looking slightly displeased, at which Luo Tianhan just shook his head.

Being the daughter of Ao Long, the leader of Aohan Palace, Ao Xuefei was known for her temper and self-centered personality, and even the elite disciples had to somehow grovel to her.

Now Luo Tianhan was glad that Yan Li had already left, or else he would be pretty p.i.s.sed at Ao Xuefei's att.i.tude.
