Lin Chu leaned against the windowsill and saw the tail of Yan Beicheng's car. She turned back to see Xu Moyan with a gossipy look on her face and blushed as she tried to change the topic of conversation, "Why did you go down just now?"

It was not that she wanted to hide this from Xu Moyan but she was too embarra.s.sed to talk about it. Besides, Yan Beicheng's status was too shocking.

Xu Moyan only laughed at Lin Chu's attempt at changing the conversation, and said, "Cheng Ziming was here before you came home. I didn't let him in. He didn't believe me when I told him you were not home. So, I shouted at him until he left. I was worried that he wouldn't leave just like that. What if you came home and b.u.mped into him? So, I went downstairs to take a look. If he was still around, I'd call the police. I was afraid you would be there, so I brought along the broom and mop for self-defense."

Xu Moyan sneered, "That Cheng Ziming is truly shameless. He came all the way to accuse you of destroying his hard work. I have heard about this sort of jerks before but this is the first time I've seen one with my own eyes."

Lin Chu could not help laughing out loud as she shook her head, "Do you know what he said to me just now? He wanted me to go with him to the Lin family to apologize and say that all my words were lies and that I wanted to sabotage him because I hate him."

"What! I should have whacked him a few more times if I knew! That is so terrible of him!" Xu Moyan said angrily.

"If he didn't bother me, I wouldn't have given him this trouble. I don't what's going on in his and Lin Yuwen's heads. We should just live our own lives but they were determined in going out of the way to make me uncomfortable," Lin Chu shook her head.

"What more is there in their heads? They just want to show off in front of you and build their happiness on the foundation of your sorrow. At the end of it all, you're not suffering at all and it's not giving them any satisfaction. They think that they should live better than you, but seeing you going through life well made them unhappy. Which is why this is where you find your advantage. If you want them to stop bothering you, just display a sense of misery in front of them, guaranteed to make them so happy that they won't be able to sleep at night," Xu Moyan peeled an orange and pa.s.sed half to Lin Chu.

"Would they continue coming to me to find their happiness? I do think that they deserve each other. Flocks of a feather should be a family together," Lin Chu went to the bathroom and said as she put on cleaning foam on her face.

Xu Moyan followed her to the bathroom and leaned at the door. Her arms were crossed at the chest, "Okay, we've already changed the subject so now, tell me honestly. Who saw you home? I was worried for you when Cheng Ziming cheated on you but it looks like you're doing okay. I'm really glad for you but I didn't think you would start a second relations.h.i.+p so soon!"

Xu Moyan made eyes at her and smiled coyly.

Lin Chu washed her face but didn't wipe the water off. She wanted to wait for the water on her face to dry naturally and turned towards her bedroom. Xu Moyan followed close behind. She was not about to let Lin Chu get away that easily.

Lin Chu slowly sat in front of the dressing table. Xu Moyan sat on the bed next to it.

Lin Chu sighed. She could not do anything about Xu Moyan. She poured some toner on a piece of cotton pad and dabbed it on her face as she said, "It's Yan Beicheng."

Lin Chu ill.u.s.trated how she met Yan Beicheng, but omitted some parts of it. For example, when she met him for the first time in the men's restroom, Lin Chu just described it as her walking into the wrong restroom. She did not say that Yan Beicheng had taken off his pants in front of her.

She did not say anything about the improper thing Yan Beicheng did when she was saved by Yan Beicheng at Sheng Yue.

"He does like you, right? It should be real, right? Otherwise, why else…" Xu Moyan did not know how to judge this. She had never been in contact with someone like Yan Beicheng, which was why she did not dare to comment simply. Xu Moyan gave a big yawn, "I'm going to sleep. I've just touched down today. These few days have been super busy for me."

"Yes, go to bed now," Lin Chu was laughing when w.a.n.g Jinglin called.

Lin Chu felt a huge pressure at seeing w.a.n.g Jinglin's name. What did w.a.n.g Jinglin want from her this time?

"h.e.l.lo, auntie," Lin Chu picked up the phone and said casually.

Xu Moyan was about to go to bed but turned back upon hearing this. Lin Chu was an orphan and did not know many elders except for the Lin family, her parents and of course, Cheng Ziming's parents.

Her parents would never approach Lin Chu on their own. They would reach out to her for any matters, which was why Xu Moyan quickly deduced that the person on the phone was w.a.n.g Jinglin.

Lin Chu saw Xu Moyan sat down in front of her again and smiled. She mouthed w.a.n.g Jinglin's name to Xu Moyan.

Xu Moyan nodded. She knew she had got it right.

"Auntie, it's late now, what can I do for you?" Lin Chu asked coldly.

w.a.n.g Jinglin seemed to detect her coldness and was a little embarra.s.sed, "Lin Chu, did I disturb your rest?"

"I was asleep but I didn't expect auntie to sleep later than me," Lin Chu said in hopes that w.a.n.g Jinglin would be courteous enough to not disrupt her rest. She would then follow that lead and hang up on her.

Unfortunately, w.a.n.g Jinglin continued, "I'm sorry to have woke you up but this is an urgent matter that I need to speak to you about. Otherwise, I won't be able to sleep."

Lin Chu guessed that w.a.n.g Jinglin was referring to what happened at Sheng Yue tonight.

Her lips curved into a cold smile, "What is it, auntie? Do tell me."

"Lin Chu, I know Ziming had wronged you. You were together for four years, after all. It was terrible of him to end things with you this way. I've always felt sorry about it and do not dare to face you. I'm always looking for an opportunity to bring Ziming with me and apologize to you."

"Auntie, please don't beat around the bush and tell what do you want to talk to me about. I understand the guilt you and Ziming have towards me," Lin Chu was a little sarcastic.

w.a.n.g Jinglin did not detect the sarcasm in her words but continued, "I'm sincere about what I said. I understand that you are feeling upset about all these and hate Ziming for it. But... Can't you still be friends after breaking up? Is it necessary to make everything so awkward? Even if you and Ziming can't be husband and wife, you are still family. As long as you are still in the Lin family, you'll still see each other frequently. Why make the situation worse than it is? Zimingg told me that you… you told Old Lady Lin, Mr. Lin, and Mrs. Lin tonight that Ziming abandoned you for Yuwen because of money, that he did not break up with you while he was dating Yuwen. "Lin Chu, please just help with this. I promise that Ziming and Yuwen won't bother you anymore. You... You're still calling me auntie, so, please help. Lin Chu laughed as she ma.s.saged Xu Moyan's shoulders, "Alright, alright. Stop being so angry. I'm quite lucky, aren't I, to have broken up with Cheng Ziming? His mum is right, though. I'm just 24. I should be grateful that Cheng Ziming showed his true colors so early for me to see him for what he is. I didn't waste my youth on him and I didn't end up marrying him.
