Chapter 47: Giant Golem

From the distance he saw the few surviving golems clamoring like crazy. Suddenly, the hill they were on had two slits open up. The hill suddenly began to rise as debris fell to the side.

The hill was actually a gigantic stone golem that slowly stood up. Its eyes contained anger as it heard the clamoring of the small golems near it and began searching around.

Alex hid behind a hill as he sensed the anger of the hill sized golem. The question in this mind was, can this golem attack or is it also purely defensive like the smaller ones?

Alex could sense that the energy flow within the gigantic golem was quite different from the smaller golems, but it will still of the stone attribute.

The golem looked around angrily and then tried to walk. With its trample, the entire earth shook like a miniature earthquake. Alex wasn't sure what he should do, when behind him a rabbit suddenly appeared.

When Alex looked behind him, the rabbit shrieked and ran away. Alex, however, was paralyzed in dismay because the giant golem had found him.

Alex quickly began sprinting sideways as his intuition screamed at him to dodge. The moment he jumped sideways, a huge boulder slammed at the place he was previously hiding at.

Alex looked in horror as the Golem began cracking parts of its body with its own hands and throwing it with terrifying impulse towards Alex. The ground below the golem began to crack in Alex's direction following him wherever he ran, dismayed, he could only run in circles around the golem.

The golem was mad. It was constantly breaking parts of its body and throwing them at Alex, but Alex managed to barely dodge them at a hair's breath. Alex couldn't maintain the pace and immediately took out a one time use Rank 1 haste card that increased his speed and and was able to dodge the projectiles a little easier and close the gap between the golem and himself.

Alex noticed that the Golem was actually crumbling apart as it picked out large parts of its body to throw at him.

"Why is this monster attacking me at the cost of its own body?" Alex wondered in shock. "As long as I avoid its attacks, wouldn't it be a losing proposition for it? Unless it is desperately trying to scare me away."

At this moment, the upper part of the golem had crumbled apart, and the golem, in rage suddenly kicked in the air. With the kick its leg actually detached from its body and flew towards Alex at a horrifying speed he could not dodge at all.

"What the f...?" Alex screamed in shock. In fear he quickly activated the Light Aura to try to cus.h.i.+on the impact, but he knew he would still die from this ma.s.sive leg slamming into him like a missile.

Alex suddenly thought of a card hoping against hope, he took out the 1 time use card he had obtained from killing the mysterious water flower. Water Spike.

Without thinking, he activated the card targetting the leg and the golem. The card disintegrated instantly, but Alex felt a huge power drain his body completely and he fell down in dizziness.

Suddenly a huge spike made of water blasted out of the ground just in front of Alex, piercing the gigantic Golem's leg, freezing it in the air, but the spike did not stop and continued forward, smas.h.i.+ng into the golem with one leg which had lost its balance and fallen onto the ground. The golem was crushed.

[You killed 1 Mutant Stone Mother Golem. You received x1 single use card - Stone Projectile.]

The golem collapsed into rubble and a glowing purple orb the size of Alex's head suddenly rolled out of it. However, Alex was sitting on the ground shocked at the power of the Water Spike card.

"That... was a Grade A card! Rank 1 card can actually have such a terrifying power at Grade A?" Alex was shocked but then he also felt bitter. "I ended up using it because of this stupid Golem."

Alex sighed in relief as he walked towards his bag that he had tossed away in a desperate attempt to dodge earlier and luckily the bag had been undamaged. He took out several nutrition bars and consumed them. Using the Grade A card had drained him off of his energy.

Then he walked up to the large purple orb that the Mother Golem had left behind. Alex could sense that the concentration of energy of the golem had condensed into this...o...b.. When Alex had seen the orb, he had an idea.

He picked up one of the small glowing orbs that the miniature golems had left behind in his palm. He then quickly tapped his Energy Affinity card and tried to guide the energy within the stone in the flowing pattern that he had seen within the golems.

Alex shook hard. Because he felt the small orb in his palm was going to explode! He quickly threw the orb away as far as he could and the orb suddenly exploded with an incredible impact while it was still in the air.

"These orbs can actually be used as explosives! Then this gigantic one..." Alex looked at the head sized purple orb with a bit of fear and shook his head. "I need to improve the grade of Energy Affinity as soon as possible, my ability to guide the energy within the small orb was too unstable."

Alex collected all the orbs and put them within his bag. He had a sudden thought. "Both the mutant creatures I killed gave me one time use cards. Do mutant cards not provide fragments? I am also not clear about the cla.s.sifications a.s.signed to these monsters."

So far Alex had come across Ordinary, Primitive and Mutant creatures. Although the Mutant creatures were very strong, they were no match for those gazelles and the Earth lion he had seen in his previous expedition.
