Chapter 41: Mysterious Water Flower

Alex had the premonition that he needed to keep consuming as many fragments as he could. But now he was interested in what lay behind the waterfall.

He jumped into the lake and swam around the waterfall to find the pa.s.sageway that was hidden behind. When he came out of the water he found a shallow platform that led into a small cave. He understood why his energy affinity was tingling.

The walls of this cave was lined with crystals. Alex could see a lot of water energy within them. He tried to pluck some crystals out and failed, as they were glued in place. He even tried to smash it using his stick, but it was a useless effort.

He took one step inside the small cave and found within a blue flower. The flower looked very ordinary. A five petaled wild flower one would come across on Earth, except its petals were blue.

The blue petals had a mesmerizing quality to them and Alex was fascinated by it. However, at that very moment, he felt an extreme danger from the cave. His eyes widened and without any care he jumped out of the cave.

He saw behind him, the crystals envelop the mouth of the cave like jagged teeth, just as he jumped out. In fear, Alex looked at the cave using his inner sight and was stunned. The flower's roots had permeated into the crystals and the water energy was flowing in a complex pattern between both the flower and the crystals on the wall of the cave.

"Is this flower a carnivore? This is a death trap!" Alex thought with shock and immediately his heart had cooled. He finally felt a little fear from the unknown of the Card Dimension.

In front of his eyes, the crystals gradually released and once again lined along the cave's walls looking harmless.

Alex looked at the flower and could see a tremendous amount of water source energy. "Even if I can't use it myself, I can probably sell it for a lot of money. But I don't know how to get it." He spoke to himself.

After some thought he brought the carca.s.s of one of the dead bright lizards and threw it into the cave. Then he observed how the crystals clamped down like a powerful jaw, turning the carca.s.s into a mush that was gradually absorbed by the crystal. Alex could see the residual energy within the carca.s.s absorbed and directed into the flower.

He continued throwing more and more carca.s.ses inside the cave. Slowly he noticed the flower s.h.i.+ning more and more and he could feel the concentration of energy within the flower increasing rapidly. However, at the same time, Alex noticed the movement of the cave crystals become slower and slower.

Eventually, even after he threw in a corpse of a bright lizard the crystal didn't move anymore. "Looks like this flower is finally full and can't consume any more at the moment." Alex's eyes twinkled.

He quickly rushed into the cave with extreme haste and reached the flower. He immediately tried to uproot the lone flower inside the cave, but suddenly felt a huge pressure hovering over him. The flower had realized the threat!

The flower was strong, however, Alex had grasped its weakness. It would consume indiscriminately, but at the moment it was full, it was at its weakest. Alex tugged at the flower's stem like crazy and gradually the flower's roots began being exposed.

After another mighty tug, the rots collapsed and the entire flower got uprooted and Alex fell backwards with the flower in hand. The flower died and the crystals around the cave rapidly disintegrated.

[You killed 1 Mutant Carnivorous Ollieander. You obtained x1 Single Use Rank 1 - Water Spike]

Alex was shocked. He actually received a single use card Water Spike. He was certain this was a rare card.

"Killing Mutant Creatures actually gives you an entire card? Or was I just lucky? This needs to be further tested." Alex murmured. He also took the dead flower and carefully placed it within his backpack. He was sure this flower alone would make him enough money to last for some time.

Alex looked at his map. This area was already on the boundaries of the marked area in this map he had acquired. He was relatively uninjured so far, and considered exploring further and expanding his map. He had to acc.u.mulate fragments and also try to look for treasures, so he could trade for the light attribute special items.

As he slowly explored further, he found several dozens of the bright lizards, which he calmly slaughtered, slowly collecting and devouring the fragments as he went along. His exploration was slow, primarily not to get lost, and secondly because he was actively trying to hunt monsters for fragments.

After a couple of days, Alex killed a rabbit like animal amd obtained a fragment which he absorbed. He felt a change within his body.

His base card began splitting up. The singular base card with four forms became four base cards. Light, Dark, Energy and Vortex.

The Light Base Card had two dots on it from the two lotuses he ate. Energy base card had already formed a rank 1 activated card - Energy Affinity. Dark Base Card had so far been left unused. The Vortex card, which had so far been digesting the fragments suddenly had a change and a single twinkling star had appeared near the vortex in its image.

Alex suddenly felt an urge to guide the vortex card. So he did and then The Vortex card glowed and the star then entered the Light Base Card, and began forming chains to the Rank 1 card.

A dot from the Light Card disappeared and an activated Rank 1 Light Card suddenly formed. It was a card called Light Aura.

"Light Aura? Is there such a Rank 1 Light Card?" Alex wondered.

He also had a weird knowledge, as if the Vortex Card was instructing him. "Why do I feel that I can only have one Rank 1 card from each base card? Does that mean I can have only three rank 1 cards, Light Aura, Energy Affinity and a potential Dark Card?"
