Chapter 33: The Body's Problem

Within the Card Frontier Store, there were two main sections. One was Card Formulas. And the other was Special Items.

Alex clicked on the special items to see what he could find, that might help him in being able to form the Flash card any faster.

Within the special items shop, what he found dumbfounded him. Various kinds of herbs, fruits and vegetables as well as slabs of meat he hadn't seen before. They had weird names and they had bizarre textures and colors as well.

He found the section pertaining to Light Attribute. There he did find items, but they were very few in number. Light attribute was a very rare attribute, so it wasn't surprising.

He found three items, but the prices and descriptions stunned him into disbelief.

1. Pure Lotus Seed - Low grade Light Attribute essence - 1000 points x 1 seed.

2. Condensed Light Matter - Medium Grade Light Attribute Essence - 10,000 points x 1 drop.

3. Purification Ray - High Grade Light Attribute Essence - 100,000 points x 1 ray.

Alex was dumbfounded. What the heck was up with the prices? Alex knew that these objects could be purchased using money as well instead of points, but that meant adding two more zeroes to the price. He wondered if these were objects from the Card Dimension.

He, unfortunately did not have the points to even purchase the cheapest special item that he could use. Then he thought about the Warrior University Freshmen, indeed they were his hope to gather points.

Once he came out of the VR capsule, Alex made plans. He went to the forums of the Card Frontier to check details about special items, but he saw a post pinned in the news forum, which raised his eye.

"No wonder the Warrior Academy students are trying to fight me everyday. Who ever did this?" Alex muttered as he saw the scandalous posts about humiliating the Warrior Academy.

Alex shrugged and talked to old Ren. "It seems it is almost impossible for me to generate the first card."

Old Ren looked surprised. "Why? What card are you trying to manifest? Why do you feel it is impossible?"

Alex was confused as well. "I can sense and guide the source energy perfectly into my body, I was trying to use the absorption formula for the Rank 1 Light Attribute card Flash. Its been a week, but whenever I try to absorb the source energy into the base card, the energy collapses and disperses into my body."

Old Ren was shocked. "What? How is that possible?"

Alex sighed. "So it is abnormal. I was considering purchasing special items from the Card Frontier to try and see if I could form the cards."

Old Ren sighed. "That can wait, you come with me first. Let us meet a friend of mine."

Old Ren made some calls and after some time the two left the Dojo.

"Where are you taking me old man?" Alex asked.

"Unity Research Inst.i.tute." Old Ren said. "It is a subsidiary of the Knowledge Tower that focuses on scientific and medical research. I have a friend there who can look into your situation."

Alex's eyes dimmed. He didn't want the mystery about his base card be revealed to others, but he didn't have a good excuse to refuse.

The two arrived at an underground subway and took a special maglev which led straight to an incredibly state of the art building.

Inside, Old Ren got Alex hospitalized. Soon a burly man in doctor's clothes arrived. "Ren, it has been some time since we met. Is this your student? What happened to him?"

Old Ren looked at Alex urging him to explain, so he did. The burly man's eyes glinted. He looked at Alex and smiled. "Child, don't worry, I will just perform some tests on you."

Soon thousands of complicated instruments started scanning his body. His blood was taken to be tested and even his Base Card was put inside a huge machine which was constantly a.n.a.lyzing the fluctuations.

The testing went on for an entire day and Alex felt absolutely restless in the hospital. He was had maintained his base card in the Light attribute form, but he was wary that may be these complicated machines might find out the discrepancy.

Finally, the next day, the burly doctor arrived and took a looked at the research from the machines, corelated it with the blood test and then looked at Alex with pitiful eyes and even a flash of hatred flashed on his face.

"Child, I have a.n.a.lyzed your results. Let us wait for Ren to come back for a visit, and I'll try to explain what happened." The Burly man said.

Alex shook his head. "Doctor if you know what happened, please tell it to me. This is a matter that involves me and is not necessarily a good thing for old man to know."

The burly doctor smiled. "Are you sure?" He then shook his head with disgust at what he had discovered before he continued.

"Do you know what happens when a person loses their base card? In battle, it is sometimes possible to use the base card as a last resort for defense and people end up having their base cards disintegrated." The burly doctor said.

Alex was puzzled. "Do they become crippled forever? Or perhaps they can generate a new base card?"

The doctor nodded. "They indeed become crippled and their contact with the inner world and even the source energy is severed completely. However, some people have been able to persevere through incredible hards.h.i.+p to manage to reconnect with the inner world and eventually forge a second base card.

However, do you know what we discovered about the people who forged this second base card? No matter what they did, they were never able to forge an active card through absorption. They remained a cripple for ever." The burly doctor looked at Alex with pitiful eyes.
