43 The Hymn

Light upon light, glory upon glory, the three beings were clothed in glorious light.

The being on the right walked to the front of the throne, and started to sing.

This was the chorus:

"Though death be potent,

Though life can't resist,

Though time flow fast,

This world is but a moment."

In Leo's world, and from inside of his bedroom, a horn sounded alongside a shout.

The voice said, "Intruders!!!"

One thousand figures shrouded in darkness entered homes, after scaling the wall, each with a single bound. Before children or husbands or wives could begin to resist, sharp claws pierced the hearts of thousands in a single night.

Rachel rushes towards Leo's room. A figure that resembled a woman's dragged her claws along the wooden walls, while sprinting towards Rachel. Rachel saw Leo's door and threw her body inside after stopping in front of the door, as the door was on the left side of the hallway, and she needed to stop her momentum.

Thick claws pierced the floor where Rachel was before she jumped, and hurried to kill Rachel after pus.h.i.+ng itself against the wall on the right ode of the corridor to pounce onto Rachel.

Rachel didn't even have time to think while she lay on the floor. The fear of death consumed her, and froze her body.

A stream of fire pierced the chest of the figure that attacked Rachel, while another stream of fire consumed the arm that was attacking Rachel in an instant.

Leo was sitting up with his arms stretched out and two fingers pointed at the female figure covered in scales.

Rachel was stunned, but then she slowly remembered his story about being a weapon.

She hesitated.

Leo said, "Help me up. We need to leave the city."

Then, he said the next word with emphasis: "Now!"

Rachel realized that now wasn't the time to be thinking such thoughts. Right now she needed to protect her family.

She grabbed Leo's waist and supported him; while Leo made his best effort to walk, and he did. The two exited his room, while the painting of the children in the field was left behind.

They walked, and then they entered the hall.

They could hear the screams of the city. They could hear the citizens's fear.

Rachel and Leo went to her sisters's room, and they saw a horrible scene.

Lappidoth, Deborah, Joan, and Crystal had died. Lappidoth's body was stuck into a wall. Leo surmised that he was thrusted by the monster into the wall. Deborah, on the other hand, s.h.i.+elded her Crystal and Joan with her own body... but there was a large b.l.o.o.d.y hole in Deborah's body. Leo could sense that the life energy of the two girls was gone as well. Deborah failed to protect them.

Rachel started to weep. She knew she couldn't put Leo down, but she felt the urge to collapse. And she did.

She fell on her knees and said, "How can the Supreme Fairy allow this? I trusted Him!"

Leo was silent. He knew it wasn't his place to judge her beliefs or reinforce her disillusionment with his words. All he could do was give her a moment to grieve.

...

Her moment was up. Leo said, "We need to leave Rachel. The Supreme Fairy will destroy this city with all of the demonic beings here. We need to-"

Rachel interrupted and said, "No! I've had enough! I just want to go home."

"You are home," Leo said.

"No!" she said, "This is just a dream! My real home has my family, and my mother, and my father! And-"

She stopped talking as she realized something.

She glared at Leo and said, "If it wasn't for you... They wouldn't be here to kill us."

Leo said, "That's impossible. The Seven Mountains thinks I'm dead."

"Well, obviously not. Otherwise, how do you explain this," she said while pointing at the corpses of her family.

Leo was about to respond, but couldn't.

He realized that the appearance of such creatures was too soon after their appearance in the city of Ahab. He realized, 'They May be here to kill me...'

Leo cast the void magic "strengthen" on his entire body and stood up, while pain coursed through each and every fiber of his being. The pain was intense, but the guilt for brining such destruction to Rachel's family weighed heavy in his heart, so he endured the pain.

He said, "Rachel, we need to go."

She didn't respond, so he threw her on his shoulder and bolted out the front door.

The demons who saw him turned their heads and wailed once they saw his face. They found their target.

A loud shrivel sounded, as the first demonic being that saw Leo alerted its companions that it had sighted Leo.

A chain of shrieks sounded throughout the city.

The demonic beings stopped what they were doing and converted on Leo's location.

Leo ran. His thin muscles ached from the heavy strain Leo placed on them. His bones had mostly healed, but his muscles had atrophied.

A horde of demonic creatures sprinted after Leo, and the

Suddenly, Rachel pushed herself off of Leo, and freed herself from his grasp. She fell, and to Leo's horror, before she could get up, a demonic being stepped on, and crushed her neck.

He turned around, while his face contorted: he entered a state of rage.

He condensed a focused stream of fire the top of each finger, and he focused the fire until the raging blazes became strong enough to cut through metal. Leo condensed a set of claws.

He rushed at the demons, and with one swipe of his claws, he cut through the demonic claws and five bodies with one swipe. The corpses of the demonic beings he killed halted the demonic beings behind the corpses for just a moment, but a moment was all Leo needed.

He crossed both arms across his chest and swiped the demons who pa.s.sed around the corpses into pieces as well. Two beings leapt over the corpses and proceeded to pounce on Leo, but two knees met the China of each respective opponent.

Leo had used the arms that dangled behind him from the previous sweeping motion to propel his body up into the air with the fire that came out of his hands. It was as if thrusters were attached to his arms.

The two knees crushed the skulls of the demonic beings, and they died in a matter of seconds.

Leo took the opportunity of being in the air to extend his arms to his side with his palms facing different directions. He activated the void magic "strengthen" once more in his body, and since his palms were facing in different directions, his body spun in the air.

He took his legs and first hooked his left leg into three demonic heads with smoke coming out of their eyes, and second he snapped the front of his right leg into five different heads as he bent the angle of his leg into an arcing strike.

The demonic beings that leapt into the air were sliced with his spinning arms, which seemed more like fiery blades, hacking at each figure that Thrust itself into the sky and at Leo.

Leo landed, and he continued his slaughter.

He fought for a total of five minutes, when suddenly, a wind pillar started to pick up, and he saw the descent of the Supreme Fairy.

The giant beast with its scaly body and feathery wings.

This was different from the tales his mother had told him. This was frightening. Even the demonic beings paused to acknowledge the presence of the Supreme Fairy.

"A Dragon..." Leo said.

Yes, a Dragon—the existence King Brimstone hates, the existence he cannot kill, and the only existence to his knowledge that is loftier than the King himself.

Lightning beams fell.

The demonic creatures died, and so did everything inside the perimeter of the wind pillar.

Everything, except for Leo.

He was floating, brought up to the eye of the Supreme Fairy.

"Why didn't you kill me like everyone else!?"

It said in response: "The great 'I Am' has a task for you, but you will know at a later date."

Leo was stunned. He thought the Supreme Fairy was the most powerful existence in the world.

"What are you?"

In a booming voice, the dragon said, "I am merely a fingernail clipping from the hand of G.o.d."

Leo was stunned. He wondered what was happening, when in an instant, he found himself inside the ruins of the city. 'How did I get from the sky to the ground so fast?' He thought.

He realized that it must have been the Supreme Fairy. He saw the lack of anything where Sodom used to stand. He saw the storm clouds return to their normal white, and he realized that the wind pillar was over, and... he had survived. 'The plan?' He thought, 'I'll never submit.'

"You hear that!?" He said, "I'll never submit to your plan!"

No one answers him. Only the silence of a missing town remained.

Leo's "strengthen" spell ended, and he felt his body convulse from overextending his weak muscles. The pain compounded. It was more painful than when he escaped from Ahab's city. The pain was so intense that Leo fainted.

The clouds looked gentle, while everything remained still.
