21: Managing To Leave The Mountain

The whole mountain looked covered with snow. The whiteness was dazzlingly bright. To find something under such a condition could be as difficult as striving for the impossible.

Well, that was for ordinary guys.

Dong Ling had the body of an ordinary girl. But internally, she was a super bodyguard and fitness coach time travelled from the 21st century. In her previous life, she also worked as a coach for wilderness survival.

Soon, she caught a pheasant by tracing down the clues in the snow and set traps.

It was a big pheasant! Big enough for their breakfast.

Dong Ling smiled satisfactorily and looked up to check the weather. Without further delay, she went back to the igloo with the cackling pheasant.

When she reached the temporary shelter, Wu Jitian was sitting with his eyes closed for rest. Lin Zang was still standing behind him as he used to, just like a professional shadow.

Dong Ling stopped near Wu Jitian and sat down cross-legged. She said, “The snow has stopped. We shouldn’t keep staying in such wilderness! I applied the best medicine on you. I suppose you no longer feel the pain. We have no time to lose. Why don’t we have something to eat and leave in case of further trouble?”

Wu Jitian nickered, opened his eyes and suddenly moved closer to Dong Ling. To his joy, he saw the panic in her eyes.

He replied, “Don’t worry. I know how far to go. I fought battles and defended the frontier. Since you got to know who I really was, you must know about it, too. Are you worried because you care for me?”

The warmth from his body blew to her face. His low and attractive voice also lingered in her ears. Out of no reason, she panicked, trying to get away from a dangerous man like him.

Her face flushed and she angrily rebuked, “What the h.e.l.l are you talking about? Be polite, or you’ll be sorry!”

Wu Jitian stared at her quietly before he suddenly tickled. He then left for the roasted pheasant.

Dong Ling gradually calm down. She thought to herself, “Why is he so cunning after he recovers? He behaves quite differently from how he used to the other day. Has he been pretending?” Thinking of this, she was surprised. Perhaps, Wu Jitian was sharper than she had predicted.

After having breakfast, they cleaned up and set out on their journey without any delay.

The road was covered with snow and the mountain seemed to be more dangerous. It was hard to find the right way. Luckily, Dong Ling could help a lot who used to be a master at wildness survival.

Under her guidance, they avoided the dangerous parts and finally managed to leave the mountain!

They hurried on with their journey and came back to Linjiang before sunset.

Dong Ling’s sharp intelligence got Wu Jitian and Lin Zang lost in wonder. Lin Zang was grateful to her, while Wu Jitian stared at her with a look of deep significance.

At the entrance to Linjiang, people stood in a row to greet Wu Jitian.

Dong Ling noted blandly, “All right. You’re safe. I’m going back home. Hope you’ll remember what you promised me. I’ll be waiting for your reply at home. See you!”

After he finished, she left without even looking back.

Staring at her slim figure from the back, Wu Jitian asked Lin Zang deliberately, “Did I promise her anything?”

Lin Zang understood, lowered his head and answered, “No! Nothing!”

Wu Jitian then nodded satisfactorily. Soldiers who came to greet him bowed to him respectfully. The county magistrate, who stood at the head of them, apologized in humble reverence, “Your Highness, welcome back. Sorry we were too late to help you! Please forgive us!”

Wu Jitian looked up coldly with quite a great majestic att.i.tude. Immediately, he was once again the prince.

He said, “What a surprise that you know you should apologize!”

He satirized coldly. Others couldn’t help holding breath.

“Get me back.” Wu Jitian ordered simply. Everybody else moved, carried the sedan and got him back.

It had been days since Dong Ling left. She couldn’t help missing her mom. In order not to make her mom worry, she found an inn and got changed into a plain dress before she went back home with a box of desserts.

“Mom. I’m back. I’m safe. Don’t worry about me.” She said.

Just as she stepped into the backyard, Concubine Lin came up with tears. She wouldn’t help feeling sorry when saw the worn look on her face.

Seeing the tears in her eyes, Dong Ling felt touched. She smiled, “I’m hungry. Ask the maids to prepare us dinner. Let’s get in for a talk.”

“Okay. What are we going to talk? I’m glad when you’re back!    Just go get some sleep.” replied her mom, holding her hand sweetly.

Dong Ling nodded obediently. She really failed to have a good rest in recent days. She was exhausted.

Having enjoyed the soup hastily, Dong Ling dragged herself to the bed and had a sound sleep.

After she woke up, she didn’t tell her mom about the hards.h.i.+p on her way back until she had a big lunch.

“My dear daughter. You suffered so much for me! I swear! As long as I’m alive, I’ll protect you!” Concubine Lin spoke and wiped her tears.

Just then, a maid came in, handing a letter to Dong Ling.

Dong Ling opened the envelop. It was a short letter in which she was invited to the magistrate’s mansion immediately.

This delighted Dong Ling a lot! She didn’t expect Wu Jitian to be so efficient! It hadn’t been even half a day before he kept his promise.

With great joy, Dong Ling got up, said goodbye to her mom and left home quickly.

In the same plain dress, Dong Ling headed for the magistrate’s mansion. It wasn’t a magnificent dress, but she liked it. Because she always liked to be simple.

Unexpectedly, even the guard at the magistrate’s mansion looked down on her. He asked why an ordinary girl like her would come to this place. Luckily, Dong Ling brought the invitation with her. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been allowed in.

“Whew, look at her! Who is she? How dare she come in such a simple dress!” said a strange and obstinate girl. She was dressed up in a gorgeous way.

Dong Ling was mocked immediately she walked in, which really upset her.

“How dare you! How dare you be so impolite to her! She’s the magistrate’s daughter! How daring you are!” said a maid standing by the girl. She defended her master in a loud voice.

The obstinate girl looked coldly at Dong Ling as if she were n.o.body! The girl then yelled in a domineering manner, “I think she’s seeking her doom! Somebody! Come and teach her a lesson!”

Maids gave her a whip. The girl took it up, turned around and lashed Dong Ling immediately!

Meanwhile, she cursed, “You b.i.t.c.h!”

Dong Ling narrowed her eyes and leaned to dodge. She didn’t expect the girl to lash her directly.

Well, was this the way they treated a guest? Ridiculous!

The girl missed. When she was about to lash Dong Ling again, Dong Ling seized her by her collar and glared at her!

“What… what are you doing?!” asked the girl who was at a loss.

“I’m going to teach you a lesson for your father!” replied Dong Ling.

As she spoke, she slapped the girl at a dizzying pace!

The girl fell on the ground whose face flushed with a handprint. She was stuck dumb!

So was everyone else! None of them had expected that a poor girl like Dong Ling dared to slap the daughter of the magistrate!
