In response, he raised the sandwich along with one of his eyebrows, and nodded his head, as if saying, "This?"

A wide grin flashed on the beggar's face before nodding her head fiercely. "Please give me that sandwich!"

The voice that reached his head made him contemplate. A hint of nostalgia ran through his mind. 'This voice sounds pretty familiar as well...'

Zhou Lei pulled the sandwich back, much to the beggar's dismay. "Miss, before I give you this sandwich, please answer my question... Have we met each other in the past?"

This question startled the beggar. 'Of course we've met each other in the past, I followed you here after all...'

To this question, she vehemently denied it and shook her head. "We haven't met before."

"Oh..." For some reason, Zhou Lei had a small hope inside him that yearned for the beggar to confirm his concerns. Now that she herself negated that guess of his, he felt a bit disappointed.

'Anyways, I've already told her I'd give this sandwich to her. Better stay true to my word...'

The beggar had been living this way for half a decade, so she thought that it wasn't going to affect her thick skin to lie a little. However, as she shook her head, she felt her heart wrench.

'Why... do I feel like I've done wrong?'

Her antic.i.p.ation dampened, but she brushed it off as nothing more than guilt. She grabbed the sandwich from the boy's hands and opened her mouth.

A slight fragrance wafted towards her nose, making it twitch. 'This... it even smells good! I haven't heard of a sandwich that emitted such a smell...'

The fragrance had touches of the sourness brought about by the mayonnaise on top, sweetness coming from the dew of the lettuce in between, the meatiness of the ham on the bottom, and the freshness of the bread that hugged the ingredients inside its confines.

Such a fragrant aroma only served to arouse her already amplified appet.i.te, her tongue anxious to lay its taste buds on the precious sandwich right in front of her mouth. An uncontrollable grumble sounded from her stomach.

Of course, the beggar didn't feel embarra.s.sed at all about the fact that her stomach rumbled. She was already used to others hearing her empty stomach.

On the other hand, Zhou Lei's desire to drag this beggar inside his home and cook her food suddenly spiked. Hearing that rumble made him purse his lips in frustration.

'Now that I think about it... She's kinda dirty. Maybe I should also make her take a shower inside...'

While his mind filled with thoughts like this, the beggar inserted the corner of the sandwich inside her mouth. The thick bread brushed along her teeth which were still white.

She had a strong feeling that this sandwich was going to taste better than the one she ate before...!

Crunch!

Finally, her teeth closed, separating the part of the sandwich within her mouth from the part outside.

The juices of the ingredients burst out, squeezed by the sudden shutting of her enamels. These juices contained distinct flavors which, when mixed, would create a whole new one that reached new heights.

Various tastes gracefully danced inside the beggar's mouth, rendering her unable to stop chewing the absolute delicacy inside. Even if she wanted to stop, she couldn't -- it was like a drug. Well, she hadn't tried drugs... but anyways!

The sandwich could be considered the very first drug that she ingested, and would most likely be the only one. If one went through a superior experience, why would they settle for low-level and inferior ones? Other drugs... were basically dregs compared to the sandwich she was eating right now.

She felt like she could chew the small piece in her mouth forever without ever getting tired of the flavors swimming inside her mouth.

In the end, only fifteen seconds pa.s.sed as she felt the familiar uncontrollable urge... She opened her mouth, letting out a moan.

Zhou Lei, who was thinking about various ways to help the poor beggar in front of him, snapped out of his train of thought when he heard the seductive sound coming out of nowhere.

He opened his eyes wide and looked at the beggar's face... Even though she had the same face as before, Zhou Lei couldn't help but think of it as "cute".

The beggar felt the boy's stare at her and wanted to cover her flushed face, but she just couldn't stop chewing the sandwich.

She couldn't comprehend. Why, just why, did she feel extreme embarra.s.sment right now when she faced direr situations in the past but didn't feel a shred of discomfort?

Raising her head, she got a glance of the weird stares that the handsome boy in front of her was giving her. From the looks of it, the boy got weirded out by the fact that just the act of chewing food made her moan. She quickly turned her head down.

'Aahh... I feel so shameful... But the sandwich tastes so good!'

Zhou Lei, in fact, did not think her weird because she moaned. The main reason was because she found this beggar's mannerisms familiar to a strange extent.

The way she chewed her food, circling from the left side of her mouth to the right side, the length of her smile, reaching the farthest places of her cheeks, and the look of embarra.s.sment in her eyes, on the verge of crying...

"Ah, ah, ah!"

A revelation! Definitely a revelation!

The beggar, who chewed her food peacefully in front of the handsome boy who gave her the sandwich, felt chills run through her spine. She reluctantly raised her head again, to see the boy's hands take position on top of her dirty shoulders.

'Ah, don't touch me, I'm dirty...'

She tried to stop him, but the sandwich didn't let her. It took away her ability to speak, at least until it was swallowed.

Zhou Lei opened his mouth, and his next words shocked the soul out of the beggar. Then, the impossible happened.

So much shock went through her all at once, that she spit out the sandwich she so loved!!!
