Part 27

s.e.x Piston bent over the bed, hugging Beth. "Don't f.u.c.king scare me like that again."

"I won't."

s.e.x Piston rose, eyeing the big teddy bear on the bed with the balloons. She turned, looking at the items sitting around. Putting her hands on her hips, she narrowed her eyes, looking at Evie who was holding both babies. "You gonna share?"

"You going to cuss when you're holding them?"

"I'm not going to make any promises," she said, taking the one sleeping.

"What are their names?" T.A. asked, taking the other one from Evie.

"We haven't decided yet." Razer sat down on the bed beside his wife.

Evie stood up, giving Beth and Razer a hug. "Let me know when you need a babysitter."

"I think it's going to be a while before I let them out of my sight again." Razer followed them out the door into the hallway, closing the door behind them.

"I thought Lily would be in the room with Beth?" Evie questioned.

"She was here earlier, but Shade made her go home to get some rest. She'll be back later. She and Shade will stay while I go home to get some sleep." Evie saw Rider and Train sitting in chairs in the waiting room. "Are they waiting to see Beth and the babies?"

"No, the brothers want to keep a guard on them until we can get them home."

"Why?" Concerned, Evie stopped walking; Razer's fierce expression told her something was wrong.

"Because Knox got an ID on those men who broke into your house; they were professionals. Until we find out what they wanted, we're going to watch all three of you. We talked to King; he's going to stay with you, and we have both Beth and Lily covered."

Evie grabbed King's arm, feeling like she was going to faint.

"Evie!" King turned, catching her.

"I'm fine. I'm just tired after being awake almost forty-eight hours. I'm going home to bed. I'll see you tomorrow."

"Later." Razer didn't look like he believed her, but she had to talk to Shade. She could be wrong, but if she was right, then the only way to catch the person responsible was to let whoever was behind the attack believe the case was closed because the suspects were dead.

They drove back to King's house, and as soon as the door closed behind them, King turned her to face him. "It had nothing to do with me. I called Henry; everything is quiet in Queen City."

"This has nothing to do with you. We both know who is responsible."

"Brooke? Do you think she believes she can have Shade if she removes the obstacles in her way?"

"No, I don't think so. I believe it's more like, if she can't have him, then no one can." Evie took off her shoes. "I had hoped the baby would calm her down, make her a little more human. I guess I was wrong."

"Evie, we don't know anything for certain. This is all speculation. We don't know for sure."

Evie did know, remembering the gunman standing beside Lily. The gun had been pointed at her.

"I'll never forget Lily begging for that baby's life."

"Evie, it's over. Beth, the babies, Lily-you're all alive. Nothing else matters. Go on to my room and take a shower. I'll bring you a gla.s.s of wine."

"f.u.c.k that, bring me a whiskey."

"All right. I'll be there in a minute."

Evie went to King's bedroom. She had showered earlier when she picked up Beth's shower presents, so another wasn't needed.

She was pulling off her jeans when she looked across the room. Grinning wickedly, she kicked her jeans away.

As King came into the bedroom, carrying their gla.s.ses, a flash of movement caught his eye. "I see you found my surprise." He set their gla.s.ses down on the nightstand.

"This one is better than mine," Evie said from the top of the pole.

"I was afraid you were going to break your neck on the one you had. Henry arranged for that one to be shipped for me."

"Who installed it?" Evie asked, flipping herself upside-down.

King unb.u.t.toned his shirt, removing his clothes without taking his eyes off her body. He lay down naked on the bed, picking up his whiskey before he leaned back against the headboard, enjoying the show. "I don't understand why you constantly believe I can't do the same s.h.i.t normal men do."

Evie stopped spinning to stare across the room at him. Even naked, he looked elegant and sophisticated. "How did the fishing trip go? Catch anything?"

"No. Only Cash and Shade did. My son-in-law is beginning to give me a complex," he complained, finishing his drink then setting his gla.s.s down.

Evie laughed, working her way down the pole.

"I didn't see your fishing pole when Cash dropped your stuff off at my place. Where's it at?"

"At the bottom of the lake," King admitted reluctantly.

Evie laughed, twirled around the bottom of the pole then turned her back to it, sliding down it into a full squat.

"Come here."

Evie sashayed across the room, crawling from the bottom of the bed to kneel beside him. "So, who installed the pole?"

"Train and Rider."

Evie reached out, trailing her fingers teasingly along the tip of his c.o.c.k. "Did you enjoy the show?"

"Can't you tell?"

Evie bent over, sucking the tip of his c.o.c.k into her mouth. His hand went to her hair, pulling it back from her face, holding it in one hand.

"Henry's mailing me a couple of other packages, too. I thought, since you would be doing a show for me, you might as well have a costume."

"Which one?" Evie's head raised a fraction of an inch.

"The red lace one for me, and the dominatrix for you."

When Evie's head lowered again, sucking him to the back of her throat, he groaned as her tongue curled around him, her fingers going for his b.a.l.l.s. Her mouth then slid up his length again.

"Did you tell him to mail the flogger, too?"

"That, I might have forgotten." Evie started to rise up, but the hand in her hair prevented her. "I thought you might want to pick your own out online."

"That'll work." Her head went back down, her mouth closing over him again.

"Of course, I get to try it out first." That was a win-win situation as far as she was concerned.

When he was about to come, he used his hand in her hair to take her mouth off his nearly bursting c.o.c.k. Leaning forward, he maneuvered her to straddle him, sinking every inch into her wet p.u.s.s.y. Taking a nipple in each hand to rub, he watched his c.o.c.k disappear inside her.

"I think we should go out of town next weekend." King said, watching her nipples thrust out, begging to be sucked. He leaned forward, licking one.

Evie was about to come, sliding up and down his d.i.c.k. Her fingers went to her c.l.i.t as he f.u.c.ked her. "Okay." She was barely paying attention the more her o.r.g.a.s.m climbed.

"I've wanted to get my c.o.c.k pierced. What do you think?" He grinned against her breast.

Evie came, her knees gripping King's hips as she ground out her o.r.g.a.s.m until she lay weak and spent on his chest. "I think that's an excellent idea."

Evie answered the knock at her door. She had come downstairs to get more boxes. King wanted her to move in with him, and as much as she loved her new house, she wanted to live with him more.

The bedroom was a constant reminder of the men that had been killed upstairs. The tragedy that had almost happened had her anxious to finish getting her things packed to avoid going up there anymore.

She wasn't surprised to see Knox on the other side of the door. He had called earlier to ask if he could stop by.

"Hey, Evie."

"Knox." She closed the door behind him. "Want a cup of coffee?"

"Sounds good."

They went in to the kitchen where Evie poured them both a cup.

Knox leaned against the counter drinking his.

"What's the news you said you needed to tell me?"

"The IDs came back on the men. They were from Georgia."

Evie leaned shakily against the counter. Evie knew her sister hated her, but to do so to the extent of actually having someone kill her was frightening. There was no doubt in her mind Brooke was responsible for the break-in.

"I asked the police to check into a possible connection with Brooke and the men. They informed me that there wasn't enough evidence to pursue an investigation.

"My father's family has a lot of influence."

"So I've gathered. I asked a couple of my buddies stationed there if they would check into it for me, though. We both know she's covered her tracks, and as all the intruders are dead, it's not like we can get them to turn on her. We're pretty much at a standstill until something turns up. I'm sorry, Evie."

"It's what I expected." Evie set her cup down on the counter next to his. "I can't believe she hates me so much as to actually try to kill me."

"The thing is, from how you described the break in, I don't believe you were the main target."

Evie felt the color drain from her face. The fact she was related to someone so evil turned her stomach.

Knox took her into his arms, holding her close. "It will be all right. Shade is watching out for Lily, and King has your back. She's not stupid enough to try something again. She knows we're on to her."

"So she gets away again scot-free?"

"I'm afraid so."

Evie gave a bitter laugh. "She was responsible for my rape, and indirectly, Levi's and Sunshine's deaths, now this. They would still be alive if not for me." The guilt she had harbored inside for years showed in her haunted eyes. She had punished herself in every possible way for living while they had died.

"Evie, you weren't responsible for either of their deaths. Levi was killed in a fight, and Sunshine was killed by a bomb. Levi could have left the bar earlier, and Sunshine knew the dangers when she joined the service."

"But... If I hadn't gotten raped, then neither of them would have been there."

"You. Were. Not. Responsible for your rape! Those b.a.s.t.a.r.ds were. I've told you this over and over. Evie, believe me; after Sunshine died, I wanted someone to blame, to help me deal with the pain, so believe me when I say it wasn't your fault. Are you finally going to believe me?"

Evie nodded her head against his chest.

"You're happy now?"

"Yeah. Diamond and I are meant to be together. No one else could put up with her nuttiness. She practically turned our spare bedroom into a bomb shelter. You?"

Evie laughed, raising her head. "Yes, but King couldn't fix a leak if his life depended on it."

"I can't, either. Rider was always the handyman."

"I don't know about that," Evie joked, pulling away to refill their cups.

As she turned, she heard King coming down the steps. Reaching into the cabinet, she pulled out another cup.

"Knox," King greeted him when he entered the room.

"King." The men looked at each other guardedly.

Evie poured King his coffee as Knox repeated what he had told her about the break in.

Evie handed King his cup, meeting his worried eyes.

"There's nothing else we can do?"

"No."

"Is it safe for Lily to be at the church store?"

"I believe so. Brooke is smart; she's not going to do anything that will cast suspicions on her," Knox said grimly, setting down his cup. "I better be getting back to the office. Take care, Evie."
