Chapter 36

“The village of orcs?” At first, Davey couldn’t believe his eyes. The building techniques and style were those of the orcs, who were the archnemesis of goblins and called themselves ‘warriors’. He couldn’t believe that the goblins were at the village of orcs.

“Before, it was an empty village. The guard on lookout told us that the goblins were consistently gathering here.”

It wasn’t a fully accurate piece of information, but it was mostly correct. As expected, there were about 150 goblins gathered. It also seemed accurate that the goblins were coming from elsewhere, because there were still 150 of them even after several had died during the attack.

‘It probably means that they are elsewhere, too.’

The kidnapped residents were nowhere to be seen; perhaps they were tied up in a run-down building in the village.

“Those guys…took Lynnie…”

As he turned around at the sound of someone grinding their teeth, Davey saw an infuriated young boy with reddened eyes among the militia members. The boy looked like he was about to shed tears of anger. It seemed like he was resisting his feisty urge to jump in because of the atmosphere.

“Are you angry?” As Davey coolly spoke to him, the boy clenched his jaw and vigorously nodded. Then, Davey looked at all the militia members and asked calmly, “Do you want to kill them?” His voice spread to everyone like a ripple.

“Yes!”

“I want to get revenge!”

Not only did the boy shout in anger, but the other infuriated militia members also shouted and nodded. They looked like they were going to swing their weapons at any moment. Davey felt that they were a very wholesome and tight-knit community, since they cared about one another like family.

“I think I picked the right estate.” Davey couldn’t help but smile. Then, he loaded an arrow into his bow, and released his mana with his eyes closed. His first real mission as the seigneur sure came quickly.

* * *

 ‘Hornet's Smite’.

On the outside, Davey was seemingly twisting his posture while pulling back the arrow. The technique looked amateurish, but it definitely wasn’t an amateur shot. He was someone who had soaked up all of the Bow Lord Apollo’s skills. Despite Apollo’s cheesy personality, he was unquestionably skilled in archery. And since Davey had learned from him, his arrow attack wasn’t just any regular arrow.

The knights widened their eyes in surprise as Davey suddenly pulled his arrow back. To them, it seemed like he was going in straightforwardly. “You… Your Highness?! You cannot attack straightforwardly!”

The knights probably thought that his actions weren’t reasonable, since there would be many casualties if they were to be surrounded by the goblins in this large place. Considering the number of goblins at the village or the current conditions of the militia members, they were disadvantaged enough to have a high chance of complete obliteration.

The army probably thought that Davey would gradually take the goblins out by using traps or by guerilla warfare, since he confidently stated that he would not let a single person die. However, Davey wasn’t going to get rid of the enemies that slowly. ‘The dust isn’t going to stop me from brooming.’

“Don’t forget. I said I’m not going to let anyone die.”

Grinning widely, Davey slightly twisted his bow and then let go. Twang!! With a sound of a string vibrating in the air, the sharp arrow cut through the air.

Stab!!

-Kieck!!!

-Kaaaak!!

The fast arrow easily cracked the head of a goblin who was carrying a bent club. Once that goblin died in the presence of others, the other goblins let out strange cries that shook the village and the entire forest.

‘It’s always such a strange cry whenever I hear it.’

The goblins, who immediately gathered after hearing the cries, soon found Davey casually holding an arrow. As they saw him, they let out a horrendous shriek filled with hostility. It was as if bees were flying out of an irritated beehive.

Perhaps the militia members were daunted by the goblins’ killing aura, as their faces started turning pale. Although they didn’t say anything, they were probably thinking, ‘What’s this crazy greenhorn doing?”.

Davey loaded another arrow into his bow and released his holy power, then braced his vocal cords. ‘Your seigneur is quite an astounding person. You’ll see.’

“This is my first command as your seigneur and family as of today.” In the deep silence, Davey turned around and commanded, “Everyone!!!”

‘Got everyone’s attention.’

With Davey’s shout, the stigmata on his back began emitting a faint light.

[Hard Skin]

[Strength]

[Agility]

[Vital Pump]

[Mana Shield]

[High Blessing]

They were spells for skin strength, muscle enhancement, speed increase, stamina support, a magic shield, and an overall boost of stats. From where Davey was standing, the pure white light that spread in a circle became various buff magic spells that surrounded them all. It was light buff magic, but the effects of holy power, which allowed one to forcibly raise the circle level even with the magic spell, were incredible.

As several buff magic spells flowed out of Davey and surrounded the knights, they all widened their eyes in shock. They felt an increase in strength along with the strange light.

‘Isn’t it a little early to be surprised? I’m not done yet?’ Davey grabbed on to the bright white light and swung it, and his will with holy power was expressed again.

-You. Are you thinking of using it all?

‘Since I’ve started, I might as well pretend to be the genius saint. They don’t even know what kind of magic this is anyways.’

[Divine Protection]

[Renewal]

[Reinforce the Mind]

They were spells for boosting defensive strength, recovery rate, and mental strength. This was more than enough, but…

‘Ah, whatever. This is on the house.’

[Saint Gloria]

Domain reinforcement was also activated. Hwaaaa!!! As a gold light enveloped the surroundings and [Saint Gloria], which was a domain reinforcement spell, was casted, the knight’s bodies became much lighter.

‘This should be enough to make an ordinary person an ‘Expert’ under specific conditions.’

“What is this…”

“Oh my…”

Currently, the highest level of holy magic Davey could use was the very end of 6-circle, keeping artifacts in mind. All the buff magic spells were either level 1, 2, or 3 at best, but their effects would become incomparable if the level was increased.

‘I hope you have high expectations, since it’s going to be difficult to receive such buffs anywhere else.’

Not even the holy knights of the Valchas Empire, the head of the religion that worships Wine Goddess Freyja, would have this luxury. Unlike normal or dark magic, the most difficult thing in holy magic was increasing the level. It would take someone like a saintess or the Pope to bring out a level 7 spell.

Instinctively noticing that something was done to their bodies, the militia and knights were shocked at the strange strength flowing out of them. They were slowly beginning to really feel it. Not too long ago, they looked like they were going to burst from anger because of Davey’s actions, but now, those expressions were long gone. They just stared at Davey with blank faces.

Davey only offered a smile and took another deep breath, since faith or a morale boost were crucial. “I allow you to let go of all the built-up anger inside of you!!”

This battle was important for the people, who were worn out from the continued attacks, and there was nothing better than a boost of confidence to stimulate those who were getting tired. Sometimes, not fighting directly was helpful.

‘Oh, I really wanted to try this.’

-What do you mean?

‘You’re powered up! Get in there!’[1]

-……

* * *

Maybe the militia members were looking for a chance to have their revenge on the goblins. Although they just thought of Davey’s buffs as some fascinating magic, the overflowing strength in their bodies was enough to boost their confidence. They were going to thoroughly enjoy ripping the goblins apart.

-Kyaaakk!

-Kieeeeck!!

Otherwise, there was no way the militia members would be filled with delight while looking at the pack of goblins with great hostility. They were like sworn enemies.

“Let’s go!”

“Take them out!!”

The militia and knights were only about a third of the number of goblins. It looked like a huge difference, but that also meant that each person only had to get rid of three goblins. In the art of war, a straightforward battle tactic was not to be used if the number of opponents was three times more than the allies. But since this wasn’t really a straightforward battle tactic, it didn’t matter.

Goblins and humans differed in basic ability stats. The battle, which had become neck and neck from the militia becoming worn out and injured, had been completely turned over because of Davey’s holy magic.

“Ahhhhhh!”

Watching them charge in with unrefined weapons and a strong roar, Davey pulled his bowstring once again and closed his eyes. When he opened them again, mana surrounded his eyes and reinforced his vision, which allowed him to see the leader of the goblin pack.

[Lock On]

Davey muttered and readied his [Hornet's Smite] once again. He aimed his arrow at the screaming goblin’s neck and let go without hesitation. Twang!! With another sound of a string vibrating in the air, another goblin, who was horrendously shrieking in the back, collapsed.

Crash!! At the same time, the militia members and knights collided with the goblin pack.

“You damn things!!”

-Kieckk!!

The people were unimaginably faster, stronger, and they had a never-ending boost of confidence. As the first militia member to collide with the goblin pack easily beheaded that goblin, the impact of Davey’s buff began to spread uncontrollably.

“Oh my…”

“Wow…”

It was usually impossible for humans, who couldn’t even use mana, to be able to behead a goblin this easily, even if goblins were physically much less capable than humans. It was only possible for professionally trained knights to do so, as they had trained their bodies and honed their skills. However, there was no way the militia members of this countryside would have received proper training. Yet, it was happening.

“We can win!!”

“Do not be afraid!”

“Sir seigneur is with us!”

As they showed confidence upon realizing the changes to their bodies, the battle situation quickly changed from a fight to a one-sided massacre. Of course, too much confidence can cause one to overdo themselves.

“Keugh!” There were instances where some knights would be hit as the mana shield momentarily broke from overdoing it. They ended up receiving an attack of a similar amount of mana as the average person. Leaving them alone would result in them being severely injured.

Of course, Davey had no intention of just leaving them.

[Heal]

It was a simple 1-circle recovery magic spell. However, the effects of this magic spell was also amplified as the level increased.

“Huh?”

“The wound…”

As their wounds were healed with a warm light, they stared up at Davey in surprise, to which he responded just by shooting another arrow.
