Chapter 30

‘Clearly, it seems that Father hasn’t fully let go of Mother yet. However, he held onto the scar for too long. I don’t think he knows why I am just leaving this damn kingdom and not destroying it,’ Davey thought.

“Your Majesty,” Davey spoke with a big smile as King Krianes remained silent. “It is too late now. Even an idiot would know that the force of the nobles, led by the Bariatta Duke family, is strong in this palace. However, humans can cut ties when their lives are in danger.”

“Davey…”

“They say that children take after their parents. However, I will be different. If abandoning family for the country is being a king and a father, I will gladly take a different path.”

King Krianes was speechless at Davey’s firm response.

“You said king, the bright and shining position that many aspire to be.” King Krianes’ eyes looked hollow as Davey continued speaking, “Polish and wax it, then give it to Baris. I won’t take it even if you give it to me.”

-You are quite harsh.

‘I needed to do this.’

-Tsk tsk. You say that he is not family, and yet you are still affectionate.

Bitterly mumbling, Davey returned to the palace and glanced at Perserque.

-You also would’ve seen it with my power…

‘My decision is the same regardless of what I saw. And besides, it’s not like I can see everything.’

-That is also true.

“Amy.”

“Yes! Your Highness!” Amy raised her head and answered Davey with a lively attitude.

“I’m going to sleep, so don’t let anyone in.”

“Yes, Your Highness.” Amy was doubtful during their encounters in the beginning, but she no longer questioned Davey and just silently followed along.

‘I wonder if she’s just that obedient, or if she trusts me.’

-Where are you going?

‘I need to make several back-up plans, right?’

-That is true.

‘The Dark Moon Guild, right? The Bariatta Duke family would’ve kept a lot of information hidden, just in case their people decided to betray them.’

Getting all the information out of them would allow Davey to close in on the nobility one by one.

-It’s going to be a blood massacre.

‘I told you, just killing off everyone doesn’t work all the time.’

-That means… Oh, you.

Realizing the meaning of Davey’s words, Perserque chuckled.

‘Humans can cut ties to live when in danger.’

Davey was going to make sure that the Bariatta Duke family was destroyed by the hands of their own people. Since he had the evidence that they conspired with vampires in the first place, destroying them right now wasn’t going to be a problem.

‘Then, shall we?’

Davey put an image of himself sleeping on his bed with an illusion magic spell, and quietly opened the window.

[Invisibility]

It was a 5-circle non-visualization magic. Davey could cast it now as his mana, which was stuck at the 4-circle level, developed and entered the 5-circle level. After seeing his physical body disappear into the surroundings, he exited through the window without hesitation.

* * *

The Dark Moon was a secret intelligence guild. It was a guild so overwhelmingly powerful and large that no other assassin or intelligence guilds in the Rowane Kingdom could recklessly mess with. Unlike other intelligence guilds, the Dark Moon was rooted in not just the Rowane Kingdom but throughout many other countries.

The Guild Leader raised his eyebrow while reading the report in his hand. “Shari is MIA?”

“Yes, she disappeared without a trace.”

“A group of assassins under Shari had previously disappeared as well.”

“Yes, intelligence shows that they tried to assassinate Prince Davey, Prince Baris, and Princess Winley, but they failed.”

As the emotionless henchman stepped back, the Guild Leader closed his eyes. Shari was a class-A informant working undercover as Queen Lynesse’s lady-in-waiting. However, that was just her known position; Shari was dispatched from the Dark Moon headquarters. Her identity was unknown, but she had an enchanting beauty and was strangely intimidating.

The Black Mood Guild was enormous, since even the Guild Leader of the Dark Moon Guild in the Rowane Kingdom could not exactly determine the depth of its roots. And so, there was really no way to know if Shari was really class-A, or if she was just a member of the headquarters disguised as one.

‘But for her to be attacked?’

As far as the Guild Leader knew, Shari’s abilities seemed far superior to class-A; it wouldn’t be strange for her to actually be class-S. However, her assassination attempt failed and she was now missing in action, all because of a weak and powerless prince.

‘Something fishy is going on. We should dispose of everything except the necessary information and leave this place.’ The Guild Leader had to be bold in making his decision. ‘The only way to survive is to quickly get out if it feels even a little weird.’

The Guild Leader quietly pressed the button under his desk to call for his henchman. Click… Click, click. But he quickly widened his eyes, realizing he could hear nothing despite pressing the button numerous times. His henchman should have appeared in front of him the second the button was pushed, but there was no one to be seen. From his lengthy experience as the Guild Leader, his instincts were immediately alarmed at what this meant. ‘Damn it?!’

“Freeze. Don’t move.”

The Guild Leader heard a quiet voice from somewhere. It was a soft and mellow voice that also felt terribly eerie in a way. He gasped. “Keugh?!”

Thud! Just as the Guild Leader bolted up and was about to pull out his sword, a black figure slowly appeared. It twisted his arm and slammed him into the table.

“Hm… A human. I’m guessing you’re not a vampire?” The voice was that of a teenage boy who was just becoming an adult. “You can scream as much as you want, but I can guarantee you that no one is going to come.” In the dark room, the boy twirled his finger, then pointed it at the door. The tightly closed door squeaked open and a nasty scent of blood flowed in.

‘Oh my Freyja!’ The Guild Leader widened his eyes in shock. This was the Dark Moon Guild, one of the most secretive guilds out there. They had many exceptionally talented members who were quite possibly the best assassins in the kingdom. Yet, it seemed that everyone was killed without even realizing that someone had broken in. If even one person noticed, the Guild Leader would’ve received a report, but he didn’t. As if oblivious to how they died, none of the corpses showed no signs of fighting back when alive.

‘He’s powerful! I’m just going to die helplessly if I do nothing!’ The Guild Leader instinctively thought that he was going to die in the hands of this overwhelmingly powerful boy.

It wasn’t important where the boy came from. All that mattered was him being skilled enough to break into the best intelligence guild in plain sight, and kill everyone under their noses. He was also cruel and merciless.

“Keugh… Who sent you? The Luxor Guild? Karsha Guild? Or perhaps… Did the headquarters send you?”

Although he was the Guild Leader of the Rowane Kingdom, he couldn’t trust the headquarters of the Dark Moon Guild. It was, after all, very secretive and dangerous. Both the Karsha and Luxor Guilds, competing with the Dark Moon as intelligence guilds, were powerful, but they weren’t good enough to destroy the Dark Moon in one morning.

‘Is the headquarters trying to get rid of this place?’ A million thoughts popped up in the Guild Leader’s head, but he stayed quiet.

“Do you want to live?” The boy’s eerie red eyes smiled in the pitch-black darkness.

“Keuk?!”

“If you give me some information, I can let you live.” The boy giggled, horrifying the Guild Leader even more.

“If you…wanted information… You could’ve taken the proper steps…to obtain it…”

“It’s not really information that someone will just give up for money.”

After listening to the boy, the Guild Leader grit his teeth and thought carefully. ‘He will kill me if I don’t do what he says.’

The Guild Leader had outstanding assassination skills, but this boy was far superior to him. He had to try his best not to offend him. He offered, “Wh… What would you like? I can give you the information you want.”

“Really? Well, since you offered, I’ll take it.”

‘That damn guy! You spoke like you were going to steal it from me after breaking in and killing everyone!’ The Guild Leader thought, but he did not fight back. He only thought about how he could die just by uttering a single wrong word.

Assassins took their own lives if they were put in a predicament. However, if one had the rank of a Guild Leader, they would value their lives.

Thud! As the restraining force suddenly disappeared, the Guild Leader took a deep breath and collapsed. His response was rough and blunt, which was unlike him, as secrecy and swiftness were essential to him. “Huff… Puff…”

“I don’t expect much. All I want is the list of names of the nobles under the Bariatta Duke family, who have the power in the kingdom, and the account book that has all the corrupt acts they committed.”

“Wh… What?”

“There must be some information that the Bariatta Duke family secretly gathered to threaten their lives. And that is being kept here, right?”

As the boy spoke, the Guild Leader hastily turned to sneak a glance. He wanted to check the boy’s identity.

“Tsk…”

However, the Guild Leader’s actions were quickly stopped. A terrifying killing aura crushed him with a light swirl of the boy’s hand. ‘A master assassin!’ The Guild Leader was horrified after realizing what the black killing aura was.

It was extremely difficult for assassins to reach the ‘Master’ level, but there were some assassins who had reached ‘Master Assassin’. Assassins were people who attacked in secret, so it was possible to win against a ‘Master’, but there were extremely few people who could break through and gain enlightenment on their own.

And so, it didn’t take long for the Guild Leader to realize how unbelievable the boy in front of him was. ‘A master assassin in a small kingdom like this?! No way!’ It was impossible that the prince, who was in a coma for six years, had this level of skill when he had only woken up about six months ago.

The boy—Davey—smiled at the Guild Leader, who was trembling. Davey warned, “Just so you know, I’m an expert in detecting lies, so don’t try to bluff. It’s your choice.”

At the nasty killing aura, the Guild Leader silently trembled for a while. “He… Here it is.”

Davey received the scroll of papers from the trembling man. He checked over it and placed it in his chest.

“I… I gave you what you wanted, so please go now.”

“Hm…”

As Davey sounded like he was contemplating, the Guild Leader frowned. ‘What else are you going to take from me?!’
