58. President Johnson first established a "domestic Peace Corps" in 1965. It was called VISTA-Volunteers in Service to America-but it was scaled down somewhat in subsequent administrations. AmeriCorps included the remnants of VISTA and broadened the service mandate to other fields. For more information, see the AmeriCorps website,

59. Four of Governor Clinton's "executive protection" troopers, who had allegedly aided and abetted his extramarital pursuits, were very forthcoming about the governor's affairs. An Arkansas state employee, Larry Nichols, had even filed suit against Clinton, ostensibly for employment reasons, but the suit named five specific Clinton paramours, one of whom was Gennifer Flowers. Another was a former Miss America, Elizabeth Ward Gracen, who denied the allegation at the time but in 1998 admitted she had had a one-night stand with Clinton in 1983. 65. Clinton must have known that Starr had evidence to prove the Lewinsky affair in the summer of 1998, since it was widely reported that Starr had granted Lewinsky prosecutorial immunity on July 28, the day before Clinton agreed to testify.
