Chapter 152 - Horde Part 8

Hao Xuan looked at Charles and company with a surprised expression and finally nodded when he saw their resolute eyes, "Alright, fight we shall then."

"Get ready, we will have to move to the castle and defend it till its time. We need to keep the horde here as long possible so the caravan has enough of a headstart."

"Got it," Charles nodded and whistled. All the old men stood up and flexed. Their massive muscles blew apart their shirts, leaving Hao Xuan speechless.

"How the hell do these geezers have better-looking bodies than me?" he thought inwardly.

*BOOOM*

Another tail landed on the barrier and the crack slightly deepened. Hao Xuan looked at the Griffin one last time before taking out a small plate from his storage ring. This was the master control of the defensive formation.

He pressed his hand on it and the eight chains that were connected to the city walls floated up into the air. With the castle as the center, these chains were still connected to the city wall but now they were arching like spider legs from the middle. The barrier above the city retracted into these chains, making them expand dozens of times.

"Alright, let's go," Hao Xuan shouted and jumped off the wall and started running towards the castle. The others followed after him.

The Griffin saw the barrier change and looked at the city in disdain. These chains would only stop the seven Ether beasts and keep them out for a few more hours, not the hundreds of thousands of smaller beasts. Those could simply walk through the spaces between the chains. As long as they didn't touch them, it would be fine.

*Screech*

The Griffin let out a high-pitched screech and the army of beasts that was waiting outside the city gates rushing in like a tide. Some climbed over the walls, others straight up destroyed everything in their path.

Hao Xuan and company reached the castle. He pressed the plate once again and the castle started shaking. Some of the towers fell as the ground opened up and a platform came out. Hao Xuan walked onto it and inserted the plate into the opening in the platform.

With a click, it fit in perfectly and a small blue bubble surrounded the platform.

"This is it. We have to keep them away from this platform until the defensive formation breaks. After that we're good to go," he told the army of old men.

"No worries. You stay on the platform, we will fight," Thomas said with a grin that made him like a mad man. All these nice old men suddenly turned into monsters.

They formed a circle with Hao Xuan and the platform in the middle. Hao Xuan waved his hand and Ensis appeared behind him.

"Stay behind and help them out whenever it gets too much for any of them, but don't use your god's blood. We can't risk other's knowing about it just yet," he said lightly.

Ensis bowed and walked closer to them with his hand on the single black sword around his waist.

The beasts rushed towards the castle from all directions in a mad fury. They had been waiting outside the walls for over nine hours now and were hungry. Fueled by this hunger and their natural bloodthirsty nature, they had basically lost their minds. The only thought going through their minds was to bite anything that looked like a human to pieces.

The first wave arrived. These were the smaller, more agile beasts. It included some feline beasts, some deadly anthropods, a few bugs the size of cats and dogs.

"HAAA!" Charles shouted and extended his hands in front of him. Small needles made out of Qi shot forward and pinned several incoming beasts to the ground. Another person next to him waved his sword and they were cut into multiple pieces.

All the others took out their own weapons and started fighting as well. Some had swords, spears, one of them even had a bow he was using in close range. Right now they looked nothing like the old men from a few minutes ago.

The stream was still broadcasting and now more than half the kingdom was watching. Because of the constant rain and the evacuation orders, most people had to leave their homes and move to other cities.

This meant there were a lot of bored and unemployed people just sitting in their homes with nothing to do. So it didn't take long before billions of people had tuned in to see what would happen. Not to mention this was not scripted and affected the lives of hundreds of thousands of people.

Hao Xuan closed his eyes and sat down on the platform. He had been at Origin Realm 6 for a few weeks now and was very close to breaking through to the next stage.

The origin realm allowed the cultivator to refine their blood and remove impurities from it, helping their bodies reach a higher realm of perfection. This was the last realm that specifically focused on refinement of the physical body. After this was the Spirit Realm where he would have to open his other Mind palaces.

Right now he was focusing on refining the rest of his blood. Because of his physique, his blood was already extremely pure. If he wasn't focusing on the basics and leveling up his techniques, he would have already reached the Pinnacle of Origin Realm.

Most people could reach spirit realm if they had access to the proper resources. It was only after that their aptitude made any difference. The less talented would not be able to even breakthrough to the Spirit realm because of that. Others would get stuck there.

The spirit realm set the true cultivators apart from the rest. This was the first real hurdle in the neverending path of cultivation.

*Bzzt*

Hao Xuan's spirit band vibrated, waking him from his meditative state. It was Xu Qing.

He put on a dazzling smile and accepted the video call, "What's up?"

"There is something wrong. Brother Yangdi says he can't reach most of the people in the government. And there are a bunch of strange things happening as well," she didn't beat around the bush. Usually, she would bow and greet him properly even though he said not to, but not this time.

The smile on his face vanished as he looked at her with a serious expression, "Stay at home. Don't go anywhere. Tell Green and Red to stay there as well. I'll call First brother and ask," he hung up and dialed First's number.

First picked up on the second ring, there was no video but from his voice, it sounded like he was out of breath, "Brother, what's going on with the HQ? Do you have any idea?"

"Ninth brother, don't go to Fortuna. There was an attack on the HQ. An elite Jia unit somehow infiltrated the city and attacked several places. Almost all the soldiers have been deployed to other areas so there wasn't anyone to fight them other than the Great General and few of the subordinates. We don't know what they want or how they even got in, so the situation is not good."

"I'm rushing back as quickly as possible, there is someone already on the way to your location so just try to hold on. I can't talk right now so you have to care of things on your end alright? And don't tell anyone else. It would create panic if the civilians knew about this."

Before Hao Xuan even had the chance to digest all the information, First hung up.
