Chapter 679 - Holiday

Kira and Gewen went to Southberry to see the vineyards for one week. Mars was happy to see them go and, deep inside, he hoped Gewen could use the little time he had with Kira to make a good impression on her. So, Kira would think twice about their non-existent relationship.

Mars also didn't say anything to Gewen about Kira's plan to go home and see her father after she executed her plan to rob the Prestons and sell Ellena to her pirate gang.

The king thought it was between Gewen and the pirate princess. So, he didn't want to interfere. Besides, if Gewen knew Kira would leave so soon, he might sulk all the way to Southberry and ruin their holiday.

While Gewen and Kira were away, Mars used the time to take Emmelyn and Harlow sightseeing to nice places around the capital as well. Emmelyn started feeling the discomforts and nausea at the end of her first trimester and her husband tried so hard to accommodate her needs.

Fortunately, Bruinen was still around and he could lend his knowledge on many herbal medicines that could alleviate body discomforts on pregnant women.

His master, Elmer, had returned to their home in the mountain but Bruinen asked permission to stay behind a little bit longer to study more literature on medicine.

When he heard Emmelyn was pregnant, Bruinen happily offered to make some vitamins for her. His potions were also less bitter than what Mr. Vitas gave the queen.

This made Emmelyn prefer to drink her medicine if it was prepared by the young wizard. It only took two days before Bruinen's potions showed the effect. Emmelyn no longer felt nausea and her back pain was also lessened greatly.

"Do you think Bruinen would want to be our royal physician if we asked him?" Emmelyn asked Mars after they had lunch in their villa on top of the hill, overlooking the beautiful valley below them. As far as the eye could see, sunflowers were blooming.

This was the last batch that the farmers would harvest to make oil. If they came one week later, all the sunflowers would already be gone.

Mars was glad to see the sunflowers were still around so his wife could have something beautiful to look at every time she went out of the villa and see their surroundings. Harlow loved the flowers too and always talked about them.

She was getting good at drawing too. The nanny they hired to take care of her was a gifted artist and taught Harlow to use charcoal on paper to draw simple things. After their visit to the 'sunflower villa', the big yellow flower was now her favorite thing to draw.

"Hmm? Do you want Bruinen to work for us as the royal physician?" Mars asked his wife.

"Yes. He is really good," Emmelyn said. "Not only he is talented, but he is also quite young. He could serve our family for generations to come, much like Mr. Vitas when he started working for your family."

"Hmm... you are right. He has been working for my family for generations. I think it started with my great-grandfather." Mars rubbed his wife's arm while speaking. She was sitting on his lap, so he hugged her waist with one hand and rubbed her arm with the other.

"Yes, and he will retire after I give birth to our next child," Emmelyn reminded her husband. "Have you decided on his replacement?"

Mars nodded. "As a matter of fact, I have. We have several candidates for the position. They are all famous doctors in the capital. But, if you want Bruinen for the job... I can talk to him."

He added, "I am not sure he would be interested though. If he is more like Elmer, then he would prefer to pursue magic and become a wizard, like his master."

"Yeah... well, there is no harm in asking," said Emmelyn. "I really like his medicine. It doesn't taste like medicine at all."

"Very well. If you really like him, I will try my best to convince Bruinen to work for us," Mars said dotingly. He had promised himself to make Emmelyn's pregnancy the most relaxing one. So, even if he had to pay Bruinen a lot of money, or grant his craziest wishes, the king would do it.

As long as Emmelyn got what she wanted. Mars truly believed in the saying that 'a happy wife, happy life'.

The couple had not told anyone about Emmelyn's pregnancy, only Mr. Vitas and Bruinen. However, John was very attentive and he could immediately know what was going on.

Mars had to specifically ask his butler to keep the information a secret. He would prefer to wait until Emmelyn's pregnancy was in her mid-second trimester, to make sure everything was okay, and her stomach bulged enough for people to be suspicious before he would share the good news with his parents and the Greenans.

"Thank you," Emmelyn turned her head around and wrapped her small hands around Mars' neck, then she landed a sweet kiss on his lips.

"Ahh..." Mars kissed her back, a little too passionate, that he suddenly felt his pants tighten. The
