83 Chapter 81: Awkward Silence

Hagrid walked into the main hut from the side hut's main and only doorway. He took a look at his dog and me, with his eyebrows raised in complete surprise and total confusion, since he could feel the tangible discord on the tip of his fingers in the room, between the dog and me.

Hagrid looked us over once more, and without a single word escaping his lips, he slowly walked to his pot that was simmering on the stove. Well, it looks like Hagrid does not want to step on this s.h.i.+t pile today, smart... very smart, I thought. But that intelligent little play by Hagrid is not going to help my situation or get me anywhere, so it would seem like I will have to be the one to push for answers.

Dang it! I thought, it seems like I will have to become that sort of annoying guy that pesters you with questions on and on, never stopping for a single moment and n.o.body can stand them at all. It kind of reminds me of a particular red head that I know all too well for my taste, now that I think about it. I silently sighed to myself in exasperation; it looks like I am going to have to become my worst nightmare, a slight s.h.i.+ver run through the back of my spine once I come to that final decisive, decision.

I straightened out my back, cracked my neck from side to side with my fist, stuck out my chin, evened out my hair, puffed out my chest, and broadened my shoulders. I went through all those motions like I was about to go to war, and I sort of did feel like I was about to do just that.

The last and final motion I went through was to clear my throat, and turn to face Hagrid. Who I now awkwardly noticed was clearly staring at me, and from the concerned look he had in his eyes, he must have been staring at me the entire time that I was going through all those motions. And who could blame him, from an outsider's perspective that must have looked have looked very silly and idiotic. At least he was kind enough to not be staring at me gapingly, since he was trying to hide it by glancing at me from time to time.

Our eyes meet after I cleared my throat, Hagrid quickly turned back to his pot, finding it much more interesting all the sudden, once we meet gazes. My cheeks started to heat up and turn into a clear shade of bright red on face, and it was clearly prominent since my skin tone is a very pale hue.

In the future, once I look back on this very moment, I can safely say that this was the most embarra.s.sing situation that I have ever been in and will be in, period! Even the dog, immediately got the hint and started to cover his head with his paw. I don't know if he was doing it because he felt so sad for me or he was just embarra.s.sed with even being in the same room with an imbecile like me.

Once the indefinite silence started to stretch on, with n.o.body saying a single word, and that made the situation take on an even more awkward tone, if that is even possible at all, but it did! My mind started to come to a complete halt, with my instincts wanting to take over, and start to run off from the hut or curl up in a ball forever and never leave it. But I knew that I would never be able to recover from that, if I did. It seems like I will have to stick it through until the end!

Hagrid tried to alleviate the situation by slightly tipping over the pot and showing me what was cooking inside of it, and probed me in a questioning tone, "goulas.h.!.+" I looked at him then at the pot, if Hagrid's attempt, yes that is what I am calling it, at cooking sweets and making tea was any indication of his cooking then this goulash is going to be absolutely like s.h.i.+t.

But right now I am like a drowning person who is basically grasping for straws just so that I could exit this utterly humiliating circ.u.mstance that I found myself in. So if it takes eating s.h.i.+t to jump off this sinking s.h.i.+p, which is literally my life at this moment, I would gladly take it with a smile and curtsey.

I tore my gaze away from the pot with the elbow macaroni inside of it, and turned back to face Hagrid with a broad s.h.i.+ning smile on my face and said to him, "Yes please, I can't wait to try your amazing cooking!"

So with that Hagrid took the pot off the stove and placed it on the table, right in front of me. The pot was so ma.s.sive that the wooden table creaked a bit was Hagrid set it down, I audibly gluped once I gazed at the large metal pot, am I going to have to eat all that, a small section of my mind whispered.

Hagrid did not notice my discomfort at all or he just did not care, the evil half-giant, I thought as I stared at his back, he has everyone fooled with his jovial tone. As if he heard me, he went over to a cupboard where the dishware was located and took out two large wooden plates and a dog bowl with Fang written on it in all caps. He also took out two spoons, and a giant ladle spoon for scoping the paste.
