28 Traitor

Nusquam. It is a spell that means "nowhere," in which the castor creates a fabricated s.p.a.ce that warps reality. It creates an illusion where the surrounding people except the castor and whoever he wishes to exclude (which is Faustina), can see nothing but darkness. When dispelled by another mage, specifically a clairvoyant—who nullify different curses and spells—everyone will be able to see everything with the exception of a "material reality" or the physical body of the castor, and whoever he excluded will be 'gone' in the blink of an eye because of this illusory trick.

Orwell told Faustina that this spell was called "Hide and Seek" for a reason. Nusquam is a spell considered as a child's play, because it tricks the eye with the distortion of physical forms but the bodies of those who used the spell are only hidden in an enchanted barrier called Nusqi, a method of light magic that hides any object the castor chooses and will last with a specific amount of time.

Of course the barrier Nusqi was only exclusive for ones carrying a royal blood, the ones who are born with a potential to use The King's Opus—the book which the elves had written.

"Your medium of magic. I will be doing the honor of transforming this small seed to be a suitable va.s.sal of your prowess." The king says as he hands her a glowing seed.

Faustina stared at the king's blue eyes, "why did you use nusquam, your majesty?"

The king smiled. "You study well, my fair lady."

Faustina's gaze s.h.i.+fted to the seed resting on her palm. She eyed it curiously. She knew what a medium of magic was, but she did not know much about its procedure.

"I used nusquam to get this opportunity of talking to you. About my plan."

"A plan?"

"The moment we create the medium of your magic, my fair lady," the king says, "Your duties as a Heilen will be stated… and so is your mission."

Faustina stared intently in the king's eyes.

"Isn't my duty… to sustain the king's life?" Faustina asks, puzzled. "But what mission am I to do, my king?"

"Yes, you are here to sustain my life." The king smiled kindly. "But as you are now, you cannot sustain my life still. This is why I am giving you a mission."

"A mission?"

"Yes." The king nodded. "A mission that you alone can do. A mission that is a secret between you and I."

The king trapped Faustina's cold hands between his warm palms, enveloping his warm hands with hers. She stared at their locked hands for a while, and then her gaze drifted back to the king's expressive eyes.

"And this is something you must never speak of to anyone…" The king's gaze locked towards her, eyes glistening and glowing with sheer solemnity, "to anyone… especially to Sheila."

"Especially to Sheila? Why?"

"Right now Sheila is performing her duties as my High Priestess… persuading, ordering and using her power to the fullest. I ordered her to use my uncle… the duke, for my plans." The king says with a voice laced with guilt. "The Feuerlon family will be our va.s.sal."

"I don't understand…"

"She does her duties effectively. A befitting High Priestess. However," the king sighed and then with a pain in his voice he spoke slowly.

"Sheila… is not an ally."

"Huh…?"

"Sheila does not serve me." The king mumbles. "She is vowed to an allegiance with the first king." The king exclaims silently, "a traitor conspiring to let the first king own this body."
