Chapter 89

After returning to the villa, Su Qiubai took a look at the countdown timer of his task. It had been three days, but there had still been no progress.

Everyone was most probably tired because of the incident that happened in the morning, so after dinner, the emperors all went upstairs to rest, leaving Su Qiubai in the living room.

Opening the navigation system, he planned to look at it again to see if he could come up with any good ideas, but he spotted Su Xiaoxiao slowly coming downstairs.

Seeing that Xiao Xiao was limping down, he quickly helped her to the sofa.

“Brother… Are you facing some problems?” Su Xiaoxiao hesitated for a while before asking as she sat down.

Su Qiubai stared at his sister and thought she might have discovered his secret.

“No, don't worry. Just take care of yourself. I'll send you to school at Bei Du after your recovery.”

Smiling, Su Qiubai patted her small head. He liked to pat her ever since they were kids, and he still had this habit.

Su Xiaoxiao avoided his hand and glared at him, but then she smiled.

“Brother, are you worrying that sister Rong Rong doesn't like you?”

Having heard that, Su Qiubai finally understood why she would ask so earlier. So that's why she asked me if I'm facing any problems!

However, it was also because of his sister's words that he recalled Xia Rongrong's allure face, and a strange feeling began to ripple in his heart.

He had that feeling with Liu Mo before, but it disappeared soon after.

“Xiao Xiao, do you think she likes me?”

His previous failure in relations.h.i.+ps had left an impact on him and caused him to hesitate. Furthermore, Xia Rongrong was an unusual person, so he couldn't help but ask her this.

“Of course! I can feel that sister Rong Rong really is interested in you. You can do it!”

Looking at her old brother with a serious expression, Su Xiaoxiao waved her fist while cheering him on.

Su Qiubai laughed, but he was still unsure of what he really felt, and in addition, he still had to do the exam task. If he couldn't finish it within ten days, he would immediately be killed!

And… everything would be over!

The two suddenly fell silent. Su Xiaoxiao seemed to be in deep thought. Finally, she looked at Su Qiubai with great determination.

“Brother, Aunty gave Mom a call…”

Her sentence was like a lead wire. Su Qiubai's face changed instantly after she finished speaking. In fact, she had never seen that expression on his face before.

“Why did she call Mom? I thought that she had long decided to cut off her relations.h.i.+p with Mom?”

Hearing the anger in Su Qiubai's tone, Su Xiaoxiao remained silent for a while before continuing, "I called Mom today and told her that I might go to Bei Du next semester. Then, she told me that Aunty had called her a few days ago…"

While saying that, Su Xiaoxiao carefully observed Su Qiubai's expression.

She was extremely aware of how angry her brother was at their Aunty, and also understood that what had happened that year had definitely left a great impact on Su Qiubai.

"Haha. So? What's she planning to do?” Su Qiubai coldly snorted, his expression too turning cold.

“Cousin… Something happened to Aunty's daughter. She seemed to be living miserably, so…”

Su Xiaoxiao stopped halfway through and dared not continue any further.

“Living miserably? How is that related to us? So now, Aunty sees our mom as her sister again? If so, why did she cut off her relations.h.i.+p with Mom in the past?” Su Qiubai's voice grew louder as he spoke. He even stood up.

 “Don't be angry, I'm just letting you know… I don't mean anything else…”

Seeing him react this way, Su Xiaoxiao was also anxious, so she quickly pulled him back down.

“I know! The only reason why Mom told you about this is because she wants you to visit Aunty when I send you to Bei Du, right? I disagree!”

Su Qiubai shouted without hesitation.

His words stopped Su Xiaoxiao from speaking further because that was indeed their mom's intention.

“But……"

“No buts, I've told you this before, we have nothing to do with them. They're high-ranking aristocrats, and we're just ordinary people. They can walk their s.h.i.+ny path, and we'll just cross our wooden bridge… Let's not talk about this anymore. I'm going out to smoke.”

Having said that, Su Qiubai turned and walked out, leaving Su Xiaoxiao sitting on the sofa with a troubled expression on her face. Finally, she let out a long sigh.

She completely understood why her brother would react this way. If that incident was to happen on her at that time, her reaction would probably be even more extreme.

The aunty that Su Xiaoxiao mentioned was Li Jinghe. She was their mom, Qiu Chunyu's half-sister as they had the same mother but different fathers. Qiu Chunyu was two years older than Li Jinghe and the two of them had grown up together.

Li Jinghe's family was completely perfect, but Qiu Chunyu's biological father died at a young age, so their mother was remarried to Li Jinghe's father.

It was for those reasons that Li Jinghe could study at a university, and even went abroad for her studies, while Qiu Chunyu married to a man living in the rural area after graduating from junior high school.

After their parents pa.s.sed away, Li Jinghe married a high-ranking and powerful official and settled down in Bei Du. She rarely came back to visit Qiu Chunyu.

It didn't matter much initially. But there was a time when the farm's harvest was good, and Qiu Chunyu remembered that her sister liked to eat some specialties from the rural area when she was younger, so she went to Bei Du on a train with eight-year-old Su Qiubai.

They followed the address and searched for the house in Bei Du for a long time, before finally reaching Li Jinghe's home. They knocked on the door and explained the reason for them arriving. In a while, Li Jinghe dashed out towards them.

She didn't wait for the smiling Qiu Chunyu to take the specialties out from her bag. Instead, she pushed away Qiu Chunyu, who had only just stepped into the house.

She didn't even look at Su Qiubai when she chased them away. She also said that Qiu Chunyu shouldn't have come to Bei Du. If her family knew that she had such relatives, her status and her daughter's future would definitely be affected.

She continued to say that Qiu Chunyu should stop contacting her, and just treated her as if they didn't know each other!

Then, she slammed the door shut.

The lonely mother and son sat on the bench at the train station for a whole night, then took the train back home the next morning.

That winter was the coldest winter in Su Qiubai's memory. He had also made up his mind that he never wanted to return to Bei Du ever again.

No one knew how much of an impact that incident had on Su Qiubai then. After the incident, he was reluctant to speak for a long time. Even in his dreams, he would dream of the closed door and the woman's cold face.

Fortunately, with the warmth from his family, he gradually walked out of the shadows, and turned into a man who would speak out for justice. But he would never forget that incident!

He initially thought that he would never have to hear from that family again. He didn't expect that after so many years, Su Xiaoxiao was actually going to a school in Bei Du, reminding him once more of the woman called Li Jinghe.

He sat in the car and smoked a few cigarettes. After some time, he finally felt slightly calmer. He regretted raising his voice at Xiao Xiao, but when he thought of the woman in Bei Du, he still couldn't control his feelings. When he was about to apologize to his sister, his phone rang.

Taking a look at the number, Su Qiubai felt a bit confused, because it was actually Xia Xiaomo.

He casually answered the phone.

"Mr. Su, I'm Xia Xiaomo.” Xia Xiaomo took the initiative to speak up first.

“What happened? The hospital isn't accepting the patient?”

That was Su Qiubai's first reaction, because he really couldn't think of any other reason why that police woman would call him.

“It's not that. The hospital is very responsible. We were transferred to the hospital yesterday and everything's going well. It's just that the child's illness… There's no progress.” When she said this, Su Qiubai heard the loss and helplessness in Xia Xiaomo's voice.

“Donghai Hospital can't do it? How about Liu Tianming? He is a dean, yet he can't solve it?” Su Qiubai felt even more confused, so he continued to ask her more questions. After all, Donghai Hospital was a famous hospital in the country. They couldn't be that incompetent.

In fact, he had already thought about picking up Hua Tuo, but the s.p.a.ce-time channel couldn't be opened at that moment, so he could only dispel that idea.

“No, no… Dean Liu personally came to see Xin Er, but he couldn't find the root cause at all, so he couldn't do anything.” Xia Xiaomo quickly explained, worrying that Su Qiubai would misunderstand her.

“What do you plan to do then?” Su Qiubai was also concerned. If I could open the s.p.a.ce-time channel, everything will be fine.

“Erm… Dean Liu said that there's probably someone who can solve it.” Xia Xiaomo stuttered, her voice full of hesitation. Su Qiubai was also confused.

"Who?"

“You……”
